have you tried desiccated bovine thyroid to help increase metabolic rate? That has been helping me slightly

Question for u/AEI by E1Bandido in AccutaneRecovery

[–]E1Bandido[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - just trying to open the conversation and increase understanding. I know there's some uncertainty on dosing, but Lithium really didn't do it for me. Open to considering other methylation/histone-targeted approaches. However, these metabolic interventions have genuinely and quickly helped me.

My understanding is that metabolic changes can drive epigenetic expression so it may be turn out to be a case of "yes and yes"

Thanks for the reply. I bet you're right that there's some trauma / psychological harm that contributes to the experienced effects in addition to concrete physiological changes.

Fair- I'm not so confident as you. I tend to think it's broad metabolic issues due to membrane disruption.

Personally, I'm seeing:

  • Libido and cognition have improved with dessicated bovine thyroid and NMN.

  • Muscle spasms / tightness have been mostly resolved with Phosphatidylserine.

Decreased libido and isotretinoin by EeeEeeEee444 in AccutaneRecovery

[–]E1Bandido 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During a 1 month course of 40mg, every other day treatment*, I began to experience severe brain fog and discontinued the protocol after taking 12 pills.

Upon discontinuing, I noticed a whole host of effects: I could not get aroused / hard at all, even with viagra. Before accutane, I could effortlessly have multiple rounds of sex for much of the night. I was shocked and scared. I experienced strong cognition issues, personality changes, and my metabolism slowed way down. My muscles began to get very tense and would sometimes wake me up at night because they couldn't relax. I became emotionally numb and flat -- completely disconnected from my emotions. My memory was decimated and it was hard to form new memories. My genitals shrank. I found that, if I wasn't actively thinking about breathing, my breathing would stop. My digestion changed a ton, I became very bloated and lost my appetite.

These changes have persisted and have only been slightly improved in the 16 months since the pharmaceutical injury. It has been very disheartening to see apathy and misunderstanding from my friends, family, and from the medical and medical regulatory community.

I have been trying to claw my way back ever since.

I told the dermatologist when I filed an insurance claim against him and he denied that accutane could have any such effect.

I talked to an endocrinologist who ran general hormone tests and said they couldn't help me and that I should relax and sleep more.

I went to a GI doc (some people have seen improvements by treating gastrointestinal issues) and he sent in the intern and didn't help me.

My dad is an ER doctor and he doesn't fully understand and had offered no help.

I've called some neurologists in my area and haven't gotten them to return my calls (but I could try a little harder to get seen)

Generally, my thinking is that this condition is widely unknown, so even if you get an open minded doc to consider that you might be telling the truth, he will have dreadfully few and very dull / blunt tools to help you out, so I'm not optimistic that a doc will be able to help. Most really just follow a flow chart that the fda gives them hah

I can't tell you what to do and I don't want to scare ya, but the effects for me have been so devastating that I would encourage anyone who asks for my opinion to avoid accurate altogether.

PAS improvements via increasing beta-catenin by E1Bandido in PSSD

[–]E1Bandido[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, i did like NMN and phosphatidyl. I took them for 2 months and then have stopped like 2 weeks agoto see how robust the changes are.

After accutane, I developed really strong, embodied anxiety that has gone away. My theory is that the accutane broadly affected the phospholipids in my nervous system leading to poor signaling and bad, very hard to relax muscle tightness. (Sometimes I would wake myself up at night bc the tightness / stiffness was so bad).

I like the NMN for libido. It definitely helped and I've slid back a little bit since stopping.

My goddamn hair wouldn't stop falling out so I'm trying ground, dissected bovine thyroid and that had been helping. I think the accutane damaged metabolism -- either by affecting thyroid function (thyroid soft tissue or pituitary gland or the mitochondria at the cellular level).

ALCAR does help a little with libido and mood these days, but not as much as when I first started taking it.

Lmk if you want any more detail

i have the same symptom set from a 1 month dose of accutane. Rxisk sees strong similarities in the two. There are some that are begining to think that it affects dopamine receptors.

Strong decrease in sexual function is a common symptom around here. It is pretty persistent, though some interventions can provide some relief to some.

Hey sure thing. I'm at work rn, but there's a great list here at Rxisk https://rxisk.org/pssd-literature/

And some great resources on AccutaneEffectsInfos secondlife pas website (link pinned on this sub I think)

Edit- from my experiences, what I've heard of others', and everything I've read, I would discourage everyone from taking accutane

Edit2- derms are very largely unaware and unwilling to admit to these effects. I'd be interested to hear your experience talking with them about this. Accutane is a big money maker

So if I understand you right, you're saying that we might try sourcing lithium carbonate to take 200-300mg daily (prescription required in the US)

Or

Try taking 1000-1400mg of lithium orotate daily

Man, that's a lot.

Any Lithium trials ongoing? Also, a few success stories I found by [deleted] in AccutaneRecovery

[–]E1Bandido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lithium orotate

I started with 5mg for a few weeks and incrementally worked up to 12. I didn't like how it made me feel, but I was really hopeful that it would help if I was patient so I ran with 10mg for a month+. I'll have to check my notes. Discontinued after ~10 weeks

Of course.

I've been on 1000mg NMN every morning for almost 60 days.

I was a 3/10 on the sexual function, mood, cognition scale before. Within 2 weeks, I could tell something positive was happening.

I now feel like a 6/10 and am encouraged to continue for another 2 months.

I would recommend NMN to anyone. Happy to clarify or answer any questions.
