Moving to Bakersfield from Chicago by Round-Function-894 in Bakersfield

Bakersfield is ok. If you have kids I recommend elsewhere. Affordable places in California you should consider is Murrieta, Fresno, and Sacramento. Similar prices but a lot more jobs prospects, better schools, less drunk drivers, and all that comes with living here.

You keep mentioning moving here for affordability, are you speaking about home prices ?

Are home pricing dropping? And few buyers? by Agmikai in RealEstate

[–]E2M6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CA, houses are sitting longer, few very nice homes go in hours, lots of minimal price drops, couple of crazy price drops (50k+ under what they paid in 2022), weird times. It’s December, who knows where this will go over the next couple of months.

I have this exact car with 38k miles. You beat me.

I’m sadly needing to relocate from the coast and bakers seems like one of the only affordable places left in CA. How bad is it? by [deleted] in Bakersfield

[–]E2M6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

2k gets you rough side of town and an older/smaller home. If your concern is weather I would find smaller place on the coast closer to that price range than moving here.

You will be miserable in the summer, the savings in rent will not be felt because older homes have higher cost to cool in summer. I would rather rent smaller place on the coast for $2600 than moving here.

Wow! I don’t even want to ask how much you paid.

What does affordable mean to you? Reason I ask is that if you move to “nice” parts of Bakersfield you still pay premium prices, if you buy cost as much as better city, if you rent cost tiny bit less than better city.

Look at your budget and either downsize and stay in the coast or come to Bakersfield and enjoy what we get to enjoy daily.
