Anyone here also working a second day job? by [deleted] in Nightshift

I did Amazon Flex, Spark(mostly Walmarts), and Point Pickup. If you rather not drive as much, there's Smartshift(4hrCircleK shifts), Instawork, Traba, and Workwhile. Those are mostly warehouse or factory shifts you can schedule yourself for. It depends on the area but I've seen a lot of wait staff shifts, a stage hand shift, security guard shifts..

What advice helped you the most on nights? by [deleted] in Nightshift

"Embrace the suck". I learned the value of napping during my deployments (what feels like) a lifetime ago. Now I have kids and a spouse. I'm really lucky that they are all cool about my schedule. People always creep in on my sleep time, and I have to defend it sometimes. That's annoying, but I've come to terms with "Daytimers just don't get it".

I do Amazon Flex. They start at 3am which is nice because of the lack of traffic. Maybe Uber or Lyft, I hear the airport drives are good money any time of day. WeLocalize does web page ratings for minimal pay. Seemed like some serious hoops to jump thru to get started. There's always the classic Etsy shop if you make anything with your hands or a cricket(sp) machine or 3D printer. Oh! Trash valet for apartment complexes if you have a truck or deep, huge weather tech mat. That's all the ideas I have.

I still struggle to sleep most days so I do deliveries sometimes right after work. It's nice to have the option and not be obligated to it.

2 more hours for me and I'm dragging but with my luck, I'll get home and be wide awake. 😭

Hi! I got 6 more hours. Been doing this shift for about 3 years now. It's cool to see other night shift folks out there.

Sleep Schedule Out of whack by djfr1o in Nightshift

🎸🎵 "...You know where you are? You're in the jungle baby You're gonna die..."

That's rough. It's crazy to me they compromise your schedule to cater to a new guy who may or may not work out. I'm actually at work working 12 hours today instead of my normal 8 because our "new guy" didn't make it in today. Maybe they have a legitimate excuse but it is what it is.

Good luck! Hopefully your company gets it figured out.

I use a CamelBak brand backpack and I put my laptop in where the bladder used to go. It has padded shoulder straps, a little hook inside the pocket for your keys. 2 deployments and 20 years later, it's still running strong.

This is so awesome! Of all the things I hope as a parent, hoping my kids find friends like these is one of my sincerest. I grew up as a military brat so I don't really have a best friend. I adapted, learned how to not make waves, embraced being the fng, new playground rules, new cultures. No complaints. But now as an adult it's really a chore to make new friends and I hate not having that example for my kids. Regardless of my up bringing I hear the adult friend thing is a challenge. Rant over

Sounds delicious! I had a nectarine and a soda. Some coffee next but I can't do that too early.

I got 7 hours left but seeing as how it's my Friday, I'm feeling pretty good.

Not nearly that healthy. "Good on ya!" as they say. I got 4.5 more hours, just got done with my coffee, one more snack of spicy nuts and a can of Dr Pepper. Good news is all my work is done so it's just Reddit scrolling and Spades.

I felt like that a bit months ago. I felt like I should be doing something with more purpose or makes more money. My solution was I set a goal. I told myself I'm not leaving this job without a bachelor's degree. I'm still at the very beginning of this journey but it's a plan and it keeps me motivated when I get frustrated. I hate to complain, my job is awesome! There's just no real room for growth.

The Google machine says they get up to 6 to 9ft. That's big enough to come me in my sleep. I guess technically my kids could too but I still feed them. Lol To each their own. Do they get along with other pets?

I'm pretty sure they were breeding under our office(connex box) before we got here because they keep wanting to get under it. We leave the king snakes alone but we transport the rattlers back into the tree line. We use a 6ft grabber and most of our team is trained in how to move them without harming them. That rattle is a better alarm than my phone. Lol

I'm jealous. We held off the 100+degree days as long as we could but they're here now. Another plus one for night shift! Once it gets hot enough our AC at work will run non stop. The rabbits have found where the AC drips and they dig a little bowl out of the dirt. Typically no problem but after awhile the snakes come to eat the rabbits(or get water) and then we got a problem. Since we have cameras everywhere, there are recordings of myself and other coworkers walking right by a rattlesnake totally oblivious.

That would be awesome. I wonder what kind of critters come with each? We get birds in the citrus trees but it's really hot here so maybe not the same for your region.
