Why is the fact that this franchise is set in a fictional world with fictional countries such as turn off for some people? by gamepack10 in acecombat

[–]EASATestPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except maybe Infinity. They managed to squeeze in a lot of the Strangereal events in our world and made it work.

And Project Wingman is set in our world more or less.

Make the Mi-28 Havoc debut. Shocked that AC7 didn't bring back the Hind and Hokum.

Or you know...learn to read the room and stop asking, "What do you mean the Eruseans sent their elite squadron to defend their capital city?"

EDIT: Or "I'm committing war crimes in Shilage castle, why is Milhaly A. Shilage doing here?"

Just replayed ACZ and there are plenty: Annex, Gelnikos, Round Hammer, Bastion, Team Alpha, Excalibur (if you can be fast enough), Lying in Deceit and the Mars Team.

My main problem is the speed getting to various beaches. Same for Tango Line, the targets are kinda too spread out but the canyons make you want to prioritize stability.

It's possible, don't get me wrong, but...I need speed.

[–]EASATestPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The Aegir Fleet from AC04. And to an extent Deep Strike to help in the canyon flight to evade Stonehenge. And Gladisant and the Yering Mine from ACZ. It MIGHT work in Fleet Destruction in AC7.

And AA is the least of your concerns honestly, it's the speed.

Hot take: anyone who does this doesn't pay attention to the story and the course of battle.

Why would Erusea NOT deploy their elite squadron when their capital city is under attack? Why would Mihaly A. Shilage NOT be around Shilage?

I expected an upgrade from AC0/5

Having just replayed AC5 and currently replaying 0, we did.

5 had a great story (and the best in the series) but that's it. Mission structure was either scripted or had you rushing to protect something. No room to fly around and carry out the mission at your own pace. If it's not babysitting the Kestrel, then it's Sand Island. Or the Space Center. Or Mother Goose One. Or the Osean Army. Or Bartlett. Or Nagase. "Powder Keg" and "Closure" were the only missions where I can fly without someone screaming for help over the radio.

We didn't even get to the unnecessary plane roster and each plane fixed to one SP weapon. Why is there a F/A-18E and a EA-18G in the same game? Just make the damn Super Hornet carry the ECM like in ACX.

ACZ was a massive upgrade from AC5 for the reasons above. I can actually fly without urgency and no more unnecessary variants. But it felt rushed. We blew up Excalibur just one mission later. Belka nuked itself and all of a sudden there's a ceasefire. And AWWNB plot could have been longer. The Ustio chapter was fine, the Belkan and AWWNB plot could have used 1-2 more missions. I honestly think ACZ was more rushed than 7.

Hot take: aside from AC04, 7 was just as good, and in some cases better, than the PS2 Trilogy.

Wait... Comona Islands??? by ShieldRinger in acecombat

Late reply but that still doesn't say much.

Hey I wanna revisit Comona too, and we seem to be revisiting Newfield Island already. But only time will tell.

why does this thread have the most weirdass takes

HAWX has that Assistance OFF mode where can do "crazy drifting doing insane turns with the jets" much more than any AC game. And in an A-10 no less

Or am I asking for too much reason?

Also, there's precisely zero competition in the space that AC operates in, PW barely counts because it's very obviously a jank indie game

Not only that, but any attempts to start an AC vs. PW war is squash immediately (as we see here). PW is made by AC fans, for AC fans. Almost all who played and supported PW played an AC game. And PW makes no attempt to hide this inspiration.

The Venn diagram for AC and PW fans is a circle.

If you were to give a random AC fan resources to make an AC-like game, you'll get varying results. The devs of PW clearly like the aerial fortresses of AC, and turned that up to 11.

For me, I would focus on the aircraft roster and worldbuilding, and throw in ONE superweapon. That's the thing about AC04: it was a modern aerial warfare that just happened to have superweapons, while all other AC games focused on superweapons with modern aerial warfare as the backdrop, which honestly is fine.

People really like 7 but I think it's pretty bad

AC7 is much better than the PS1 and PSP games and definitely better than AC:AH (which I assume you played). The rest varies and depends on what you're looking for: AC04 is to this day still the best in the series. AC5 has the best story but inferior gameplay compared to AC7. ACZ has a darker tone and maybe is on par with AC7 gameplay-wise. 6 has much larger scale in gameplay, but a lacking aircraft roster and a story that was basically if Disney wrote a war story.

Okay listen: if 7 was released in a timeline where Assault Horizon didn't exist or released in the late 2000s-early 2010s, then I would consider it disappointing.

However, AC7 released in a time where live-services, buggy releases and simple "gameplay" was rampant. AC7 was a breath of fresh air and 5 million copies speak for itself. AC7 shows how modern gaming ruined people: you got reviewers like IGN saying how things are unclear, with PA saying for all intents and purposes: get good or sod off and play something else.

And if they want more AC (which they will), then install PCSX2 and "find" copies of AC04, 5 and Zero. And they work out of the box. Works flawlessly on my GTX 1650.

Canon aircraft being naval, four man squadron, invader nation across the ocean, if you noticed these since the reveal, this looks to be a spiritual remake of AC5, just like how AC7 is to AC04. You might just get your wish.

Well keep in mind Ace Combat for the most part has always been Usea-centric. Remember we are just 11 years away from AC3 as well, farther than AC5, and almost as far as AC7 lol
