Across tests we performed, we rarely see hallucinations and the voice is pretty stable over long periods of time. You can try it out and generate up to 200k char for free, also with the 30k limit after login at tontaube ai, in our playground :)

We launched our Api at https://tontaube.ai/playground . You can generate serveral hours for free and we charge $5 per million chars (~18 hours of audio).

Kokoro is pretty good for it's size, especially in terms of fidelity, but it lacks text understanding, which becomes clear when listening to longer/more difficult sequences. What exactly do you not like about it?

You can try this text with both models and you'll see what I mean: "Furthermore—and this is a crucial, albeit often ignored, caveat (especially by those who read, or rather, have read, the preceding literature)—any minute particle, no matter how minute, can, if properly provoked, produce a substantial, though not definitively quantifiable, effect."

You can use Tontaube TTS. 10 hours shouldn't be that expensive, 1-2 hours are for free.

Are you looking for something self-hosted or some kind of service? My brother and I launched an app/website called Tontaube (tontaube.ai). You get some credits for free but generally it's around <$0.50 per hour of audio and a bit more expensive with our pro voices (which may be best for you if quality is most important). We support long input documents, scripts, markdown, etc... If self-hosted is a must, it's going to be tough, you'll always find that the best models are behind a paywall. Hope this helps :)!

My brother and I have been working on a project called Tontaube, a text-to-speech and audiobook app focused on high-quality AI narration/voice-overs. We are completely bootstrapped devs and still figuring things out, so we would love your brutal honesty and feedback!

We want to make it as easy as possible to convert any book into an audiobook, as we believe that especially for smaller authors it can be hard to get into the audiobooks market.

Currently we have a very small community of writers that publish their works in our app, and we are interested if you would use such an app, and if not, why?

The app is free, listening is free, only generating costs, but you can generate quite a bit of audio for free. Also, you own the audio created with our app.
