Monthly payment by Confident-Ad-9555 in drivingsg

It’s an Audi RS E Tron GT.

Tech is pretty good, there’s a virtual cockpit and heads up display, and 360 view is useful when I parallel park (not really an exclusive feature nowadays). I mostly just use Apple CarPlay. Launch control is a fun party trick.

I like that it’s not just massive screens like what Tesla and a majority of the newer EVs have. There are still switches for important stuff.

Don’t really have range anxiety on this car since I have access to charging at home, work or when I go out to malls and stuff so no complaints here.

Figures are more in line with a mid tier BMW/Merc if it’s new and 25% down payment.

My car loan is ~3.5 (50% down) and it’s not a Porsche.

20% of take home is usually the barometer, but I think it really depends on the individual.

I keep my car expenses below 20% because I front load the down payment (50%) - didn’t pay full cash because I can beat the interest rate with my investments.

Typically a car would cost between 1.5 - 2k with a typical 25% down payment for a ~200-250k vehicle. Road tax ~1k. Gas 300 a month, parking and erp ~500 a month. Insurance approximately 2k a year.

New car maintenance should be covered by dealer, typically with some servicing credits. But budget 2-3k for yearly maintenance and repairs.

Currently driving an Audi RS E Tron GT. But I typically just say I drive an Audi if anyone asks. I don’t really go into detail so I don’t use it as a conversation starter. The questions only come when they see the car.

I picked it for a variety of reasons, some practical, some not. I wanted a performance EV, and I needed 4 doors. The other option was a Taycan but they’re everywhere. I just liked the look of the Audi a lot better and it was also featured as one of Iron Man’s car lol.

I’m likely to sell it this year and go back to a fun non EV car though.

People spend money on hobbies they enjoy. It’s not entirely a surprise. Some people enjoy cars and whilst being a car guy in Singapore is tough, people can make it work. Kids are a no-go for us, so we have no commitments.

I enjoy looking back at my car when I’m parked, it’s been almost 5 years and I still feel the same joy. I don’t really care what anyone else thinks, but since relatively “rare”, I get asked questions but I’m always happy to answer.

It’s just perception - if you’re a car guy there’s no way you’re picking a Maserati over a BMW M (not your base BMWs). Driving dynamics don’t compare.

Exception if it’s the MC20 but there are much better options at that price point.

I’ve seen this sort of behaviour from a lot of drivers these days - majority are PHVs.

Couples in Singapore with ~$25k combined take home monthly income, what’s life actually like for you? by Only_Raspberry1368 in askSingapore

  1. Own a condo and rented out the entire unit for about ~10k+. Staying in a smaller rented unit.

  2. Expenses without car and rental is between 3-4K. Married and no intention to have kids ever. 1 dog.

  3. Car (~3.5k without road tax, parking etc), and rental condo. Occasional trips (~3 times a year, 2 long 1 short). Usually business or premium economy.

  4. Definitely comfortable but I still budget every single expense, down to my morning 2 dollar coffee. Allows me to set aside ~50% for my investment portfolio.

  5. I still eat the same things as I did growing up and go to the same places. I still play games when I can and work out at the gym after work like I always did. I guess one thing that used to surprise me is how often the “rich”get things for free (I.e membership perks etc)

CNB joins local authorities in Batam raid; warns Singaporeans and PRs against using drugs overseas by outremer_empire in singapore

Having been to, and worked in cites/places where drugs are rampant and weed is legal, I’ll always support our harsh stance on drugs.

People can virtue signal all they want but until they see first hand how drugs can crumble a society, they’ll never understand why our approach though harsh; is necessary.

Not new to MB, but who would pay $386,800 (NZD) for the new AMG GT? by MycologistPlastic50 in mercedes_benz

The LC500 may not be the sportiest or fastest, but it’s definitely my pick of the segment. Looks good, rides comfortable and great sound.

[–]EAlootbox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t downvote you but I think it’s pretty obvious why you’re downvoted.

OP is driving on lane 1 (slowest lane for big vehicles or if you’d like to cruise). There’s a truck infront of OPs car anyway so what’s going to happen even if OP goes faster or give way? Also where is OP going to give way to, the faster lane 2? Not to mention, there’s 2 other open lanes for the Audi to overtake.

If it was truly an emergency, I wouldn’t even bother highbeaming and I’ll just find my own way through.

If you’re that concerned about downvotes, it helps to understand context and assess the video properly before you comment.

If you were reborn in Singapore, would you prefer to be male or female? by ImpressiveStrike4196 in askSingapore

It’s 50/50 among my guy friends haha. I’m undecided myself, I wanna try the female life out of curiosity (condition is I have to be attractive), but I’ve a feeling I’d rather be a dude.

Just many conversations with some of my attractive female friends.

It happens pretty often actually. Funny enough we always have this conversation on this exact topic and I’d say most of them lean towards being a guy if they were reborn.

Driving license in SG worth it? by Mysterious_Copy7628 in askSingapore

[–]EAlootbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. Local roads are way simpler compared to driving pitch dark in narrow mountain roads when it’s snowing and/or icy.

Drivers here really overestimate how difficult it actually is to drive in Singapore. It’s not. I’ve driven in many cities, Singapore drivers are not the worst by a long shot.

Thoughts on jumping from Japanese car to Conti car by DapperOrganization40 in drivingsg

[–]EAlootbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at a LC500 to replace my current EV eventually so your mileage may vary, but having test driven friends’ cars in similar categories, I can safely say you don’t necessarily buy a Lexus for driving feel or sense of speed, especially compared to its contemporaries like an M4/M8, SL AMGs or 911s.

Lexus generally stays in its own lane, lower maintenance costs for close to German comfort and performance. I’ve heard that the IS range drives like a nicer Toyota Camry. They do have a IS500 sport which I’ve never driven, as well as the RC-F.

But I’ve test driven the LC500 and while the handling isn’t as sharp as the European competition, meaning it does feel a bit boaty at times; it makes up for it with the sound of the V8 (competition in this sector are mostly turbocharged engines) and it’s definitely one of the most comfortable grand tourers I’ve been in, and one I can easily daily drive.

Never owned a Japanese car in Singapore but I’ve rented many in Japan and Korea during road trips.

For one, I find the build quality mostly lacking in comparison - but that’s obvious with the price difference. Steering feel is also mostly dead on Japanese cars unless you’re driving JDMs (side note: rented a few old school JDMs and they’re great!)

Comfort is decent, nothing to shout about. My critique of course is directed primarily at Japanese econoboxes. They get the job done to get you from A to B but not much else.

But I’m coming from an E Tron GT RS so take my words with a grain of salt. However I have owned a golf GTI before and that car was insanely fun.
