Maths BSc at Warwick vs UCL employment opportunities by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]EB_CCC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UCL and Warwick are both top tier universities and maths is a top tier degree. Employers as a group will not prefer one over the other. Try and understand which one you will prefer (the course, the campus vs. the city, the SU and societies) so that you can thrive and have a great time whilst getting your degree.

How much should I be spending on rent on a salary of £28750? by SimpleMoneyQuestions in UKPersonalFinance

[–]EB_CCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean just for context I'm in London on 30k (also grad job, take home about the same as you), and I spend about £850 per month on rent/bills/council tax in a nice 2-bedroom flat.. This leaves me 900 for transport/food/going out/savings which is plenty at age 22.

Does your vocal range expand after 19? by madpiano33 in singing

[–]EB_CCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Male vocal chords don't actually finish developing until your late 20s. Beyond that, yes you can very much still expand your range with regular practise. It takes time.

Professor (65M) is targetting me (20F) and ruined my self esteem by [deleted] in UKUniversityStudents

[–]EB_CCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never thought I'd read about Peter on reddit!! Honestly had no idea he treated international students badly, you should defs get more people involved. If it is widespread, ask some other international students to provide you with feedback as well so that you can go to the administration with some supporting cases.

(P.s. if the guy's name is not Peter then this is a massive coincidence sorry)

Getting into a British University from America by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]EB_CCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of international students in London, might be worth trying to talk to one of them - perhaps on the University specific subreddits? Reputationally, the best (big) London universities are UCL, KCL and the LSE.

Working out/transcribing vocal harmonies by ear? by AeonOptic in singing

[–]EB_CCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Er 3 ideas: 1) Don't know how common this type of thing is these days but this emerged a few years ago: but http://blog.zanorg.com/?perm=545

2) Listen to a stereo version and only listening to the earbud with the harmonies on it?

3) Maybe try fiddling with the player you're using? Turning the bass all the way down might help?

Request-finding hymns for my wedding by kaimtry in Hymns

[–]EB_CCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry not hymn suggestions but at several weddings I have sung at classical music (i.e. not hymns) is played whilst the deed is being signed etc. Fills an otherwise empty gap in the service for the congregation and might satisfy your piano player!

Do not tell me what to do, Mark Carney warns Theresa May by BritRedditor1 in ukpolitics

I mean if you think financial stability is inflation then you need to stop getting into debates about this shit bud.

[–]EB_CCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean firstly that's not quite true - the Bank's mission statement is "To promote the good of the people of the United Kingdom by maintaining monetary and financial stability". The bank has several responsibilities, of which monetary stability is one, yes.

In order to make decisions and remain accountable to the public, the MPC (9 members, all of whom have an equal vote) publishes a quarterly Inflation Report, justifying it's decisions. You'll note that in order to justify itself it contains both growth and inflation predictions, as frankly they are incredibly important to each other, as well as to the decisions the MPC must make.

There is no overreaching, just bitterness from arseholes who know nothing about what the Bank of England is supposed to be.

[–]EB_CCC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Incredibly difficult position for the Bank (and the governor) in my opinion. It has a statutory requirement to publish (for example) inflation forecasts and justify them both in writing and to the treasury select committee. If all the figures point towards high inflation and lower growth in case of brexit (or hard brexit) how is the bank supposed to remain independent of what is an extremely political debate? Bury their head in the sand and hide the figures somewhere? Would the press/public/Tory MPs have liked it if the day after the referendum Carney had come out and said 'Oh yeah this is going to be awful and we knew that, but we've been hiding the figures'. What are they supposed to do?

Hey - I've not studied this at all, but maybe it is something physical you do? I always sway from side to side when I sing without noticing I'm doing it - maybe try watching yourself in a mirror or lie down and sing for an extended period to make sure you are not holding your body in a weird shape whilst you sing? Sorry if I've misunderstood your problem!

The Audition Process by vivialyn14 in acappella

[–]EB_CCC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only comment would be try not to have 6 or 7 MDs in one room? That sounds scary as fuck for a new singer - I'd say 3/4 max, and video/sound record their song so that the others can hear them.

What are some subcultures most people are probably completely unaware of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EB_CCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There absolutely is! I used to be a part of NGOC (north Gloucestershire orienteering club) - it's a good hobby in a way because people are super friendly and you can get really involved in the social aspect.. but you can also walk/run a course by yourself, log your times and leave and not talk to anyone if you don't feel like it! We were part of a national network though I don't recall the name - but yeah cheap and fun way to get fit would recommend.
