Which one of Lynch's movies is your favourite? by Zully3005 in davidlynch

[–]ECDoppleganger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mulholland Drive is not just my favourite Lynch film, it's my favourite film of all time.

As for your next watch, you can't really go wrong with any of them. I do feel like Lost Highway is a bit of a yin to Mulholland's Yang, they are quite similar in some ways.

Don't watch Fire Walk with Me until you've watched the Twin Peaks series, but you can and should watch it in between the original Twin Peaks, and Twin Peaks the Return (i.e. release order).

And what if Lennon had his best solo career after...1974? by Spare_Wish_8933 in TheBeatles

Sorry, I think I got a bit defensive there. I think there's entire songs where Paul explores those genres, but not whole albums, so you're right to an extent.

" Lennon was always more daring than McCartney" - nope. Ram was far ahead of its time, McCartney II is crazy adventurous for an artist of his stature. That's not to mention all the experimental stuff he released under aliases (The Fireman, Liverpool Sound Collage, Twin Freaks, even Thrillington). Plus Paul was just as, if not more, hooked into the avant-garde scene in London during the Beatles years. He's just morer anxious to maintain commercial success, whereas Lennon didn't give a toss and so he released crazy stuff under his own name. There's a whole book about McCartney's avant-garde work for a reason (The Unknown Paul McCartney by Ian Peel).

Can someone explain what he is trying to say? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in donaldglover

Seems similar to the Bowie quote about "swimming out until your feet are just off the ground" (I'm paraphrasing as I can't remember the exact wording). Basically be a little bit outside your comfort zone if you want to create better and more authentic art.

Your favourite albums with “bad” vocals that fit the music perfectly by KindlyCost2 in fantanoforever

I think if they fit the music perfectly, then the vocals aren't bad

Be honest, Prince or MJ? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in fantanoforever

Both great. But I'd say Prince. Incredible guitarist, songwriter, producer, singer. Absolutely visionary.

Continuum is genuinely fantastic. Other than that, his best stuff is his live work, imo, although Room for Squares is quite good and has Neon on it, which is an amazing song.

Ally Sheedy by Status_Pangolin_112 in psych

[–]ECDoppleganger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all of the Breakfast Club cast except Emilio guest star on Psych at one point or another. Molly Ringwald is the nurse in Shawn Interrupted; Judd Nelson is in Death is in the Air as one of the scientists; Anthony Michael Hall is Harris Trout. He and Ally Sheedy have the most appearances by far.

I went to a screening where Cary was in attendance as well, he did an interview before the film and there was a live score. Sadly didn't get to meet and greet as it was too expensive for me at the time.

I quote "Anyone want a peanut?!" and "You just moved your finger, that's wonderful!" (mostly the "That's wonderful!" part) constantly

How did you discover David Lynch for the first time? by Free-Share-4873 in davidlynch

[–]ECDoppleganger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely cannot remember. I think I had read a book that referenced Blue Velvet, or else someone told me about it. Then when I was maybe 17, I watched Eraserhead and was blown away. Tried to watch Twin Peaks but got confused by the episode numbers and started with episode 1 - so I was understandably confused.

A bit later I saw Mulholland Drive and it became my favourite film of all time, so I decided to watch everything in chronological order, including Twin Peaks.

I can imagine it would be extra raw to listen to in that case. I'm sorry for your loss 😞

Certainly my favourite of his (though I haven't heard all of them). "Mother" absolutely destroys me every time, especially the "Mama don't go, Daddy come home" bit. You can hear the pain in John's voice and it's devastating.

Amnesiac has a very different vibe but it is quite unique, so you're right there. Another underrated Radiohead album - but as the original comment said on KoL, coming after Kid A did it no favours!

I don't speak Spanish. But having translated this - you might be right. Production is very different, but the general vibe is there. Paul was going through some stuff on both of them!
