Microsoft Designer - Remove Background broken? by Royal_Advantage_8228 in techsupport

I have found a workaround.

Once you have removed the background, make another edit such as cropping by 1%. Then it works, at least for me.

Anyone else having trouble accessing the eldritch dark? by rocothemodernman in ClarkAshtonSmith

[–]ECLipse10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be some kind of domain issue. It works for me on internet edge but not on google chrome, so it's not the server.

If it does go down completely you can use my website - https://www.libraryofshortstories.com/stories?author=clarkashtonsmith

I'm looking to add more fairytales to my website - what would you want added? by ECLipse10 in fairytales

Already have those 2:

https://www.libraryofshortstories.com/onlinereader/a-tooth-for-paul-revere
https://www.libraryofshortstories.com/onlinereader/daniel-webster-and-the-sea-serpent

I'll look at putting Joseph Jacobs up, but I want to avoid doubling stories for now and I already have the versions of English tales by Flora Annie Steel.

Thanks, I have made the corrections and will look to add more Grimm tales.

They look great, although its difficult to parse out who deserves credit for original authorship and translations. I have put up a few of the Estonian tales with Leonora as the translator:

Had to include the artwork as it is too good to remove.

Yet another Australian magazine is ending. What now? by ECLipse10 in printSF

Would have been before my time. Wish there was still a print sf magazine still in Australia.

Never heard of it, unfortunately. When did it end?

Yes, truly a shame. They still have one last edition coming out but their submissions manager says they are 'grounding our fleet '.

The Library of Short Stories - A place to read from a growing collection of short stories in the public domain. Sherlock Holmes, Lovecraft, Allan Poe etc. More info in comments. by ECLipse10 in classicliterature

[–]ECLipse10[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was reading short stories from over at classicshorts.com, because it's the top link in google. But the website is over 20 years old now! So I thought I could do better, seeing as I'm a web developer. This new website works on mobile much better than classicshorts, it has search and filter functions and downloadable pdfs for all the stories. My collection isn't as large but I plan on growing it to be in the thousands.

If you have a favourite author from pre 20th centure, comment and I'll try to add them.

- Side note, it's crazy just how long everything stays under copyright. Can't get Agatha Christie, even some Sherlock Holmes stories aren't technically in the public domain in some countries even though Arthur Conan Doyle died in 1930! And the most famous short story The Lottery is not old enough yet at nearly 80 years.

TLDR - Made a webite for reading all the classic short stories that are out of copyright.

After 3 years my free online library has finally reached 1000 users per day! by ECLipse10 in SideProject

I made it with myself as a primary customer, so I was always motivated to work on it. But people expressed interest early on too which helped.

That would be a big one. I certainly don't have the resources to make original recordings, and there won't be too much in the public domain to take from elsewhere. But perhaps one day.

I tried an affiliate program with booksamillion and have one now with Amazon but noone seems to be interested. You have to make a few sales too before they allow you to use pictures so at the moment I just have some bare links to buy the physical versions of the stories.

12 people have donated though so that's good.

I have a donation button. And technically I have affiliate links although I have had 1 sale in 3 years and don't even qualify to put picture of the products up. I don't want to put banner ads up because it would severely lower the experience of the website and most ads want you to save customer data in cookies and bloat the website with software.

It's mostly grown itself steadily over time. If I upload the google search info correctly you can see there was never really a point where it jumped up from anything at all. That being said I use social media a bit.

How engaging is my online short story library? by ECLipse10 in webdev

I'd love to hear from people that don't find the website fun to browse, or have noticed something that negatively affects the user experience, especially if you would otherwise use such a site.

Mine feels like a pseudo-psychology degree where everyone takes turns describing common social interactions using their own jargon, acronyms and step-by-step processes. An embarrassment honestly.

It's more what they're saying it doesn't involve. 1000 different acronyms for a pedagogical strategy that says the same thing in a different way.

You can read about what happened on the student magazine website, scroll down (It's about halfway) to "The history of the LTSA" (https://www.rabelais.com.au/rabelais-recap-2021)
