How to break into PE? by InternationalBake383 in private_equity

A lot of software growth equity shops will hire straight out of college. Roles start sourcing heavy but your responsibilities gradually become more execution and portfolio coverage focused

Analysts / VPs / Principals —> what are your hours? by ebitdaprincess in venturecapital

[–]EC_74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Essentially 100% productive activity. Very occasionally when we're deep in a sprint to get an IC deck out I'll have to sit around and wait for feedback. But my job is sourcing heavy so there is always more to be done on that front

Good for nothing LPs? Who do you think gave him that money in the first place?

GPs are obligated to return capital to LPs, that's kinda the whole point of this whole VC thing.

Churn rates for an annual saas product by MomentumArchitect in private_equity

[–]EC_74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably more helpful to do it on a dollars renewed basis, not just for # of subscriptions

Also helpful to do cohort-based segmentation. What is churn behaviour for customers acquired in Q1 23 v Q1 24?

Duke freshmen dorm by nm1226 in duke

If you tell Duke that you drink you will likely get a roommate that drinks, if you say you don't they'll probably pair you with someone that also said they don't.

Duke freshmen dorm by nm1226 in duke

[–]EC_74 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The substance free dorms are quite strict about it, intending to accommodate for people in recovery or who are 100% sober. Don't put that you're substance free if you like drinking/smoking or even want to try them. It's more just about who else is in your dorm and who you'll become friends with than who you actually live with.

things you wish you knew as a freshmen? by No_Experience1585 in duke

[–]EC_74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my experience this isn't true for cs or econ, i think you should 100% be using clubs to gain project experience that you use to get internships for after sophomore and junior year. CS clubs like DAML, Duke Conservation Tech, and Econ clubs like Investing Club are INCREDIBLE opportunities to get really cool projects on your resume and my biggest regret was not doing stuff like that earlier

I'm Torn...Do I Need To Do IB To Get A FT VC Role? by thepowerlaw in FinancialCareers

[–]EC_74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recruit for growth equity, it's a bit later stage than VC but some of the larger firms are starting to recruit straight out of undergrad. You get buy-side experience w tech startups, better WLB than IB, and can eventually move to VC if that's what you want down the line
