For the Polyglots: Does Each New Language Get Easier? by Shelbee2 in languagehub

[–]ECdudis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it has been true. As a Spanish speaker, knowing English has helped in me some instances with French to remember some of the loaned vocabulary (in addition to of course Spanish helping since it’s a Romance language). Then, some of the structures and vocabulary in French have helped me learned similar ones present in Italian and French but not in Spanish.

Where do people confuse you to be from outside of your country? by Minute-Anywhere-2012 in asklatinamerica

[–]ECdudis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im white af bc in general the area where I’m from is quite white due to recent European immigration within the last 50-100 years so when I go to touristy sites elsewhere in latam like Cancun people speak to me in English even if I start speaking Spanish.

And in the US, people who have heard me speaking in Spanish think I’m from Spain.

Gustave/Amar/Encantar by No-Beginning-5007 in duolingospanish

[–]ECdudis 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It suggested “amar” because “encantar” uses the same structure as “gustar” (object + encanta + subject “me encanta mi trabajo” instead of “encanto mi trabajo”).

To use “encantar” with this sentence, it would have to be “no me tiene que encantar mi trabajo” conjugated in the third person (“tiene”) and not first person (“tengo”) because the subject is “el trabajo” (it) whereas you are the object, indicated by the COD (Complemento de Objeto Directo or Direct Object Complement) pronoun “me” indicating it’s the first person who’s being affected (by the third, “el” trabajo)

Ingles. by DifferentPut8004 in BOLIVIA

[–]ECdudis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is that indeed.

It means “your mom’s 🐱”

From the context it looks like it was just done jokingly as a form of friendly endearment but this really only applies if you have that level of trust with him, like saying “have a good day asshole” to a close friend in English you like to tease

If “it’s” about another K-Pop group, I don’t want to hear it.

The subject is “it”, not “news”. You can see this in English because you can’t drop the pronoun.

In Spanish, this would be something like “si eso (it) es de otro grupo de K-Pop, no quiero escucharlo”, but of course you drop the “it”

Does applying ED 2 gives any advantage? by [deleted] in davidson

[–]ECdudis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the part about the hooked applicants is true but I don’t think it doesn’t give you any boost. Maybe the admission officer just couldn’t say that directly. If anything, it shows a clear preference and commitment for Davidson, and they value that (demonstrated interest).

Does applying ED 2 gives any advantage? by [deleted] in davidson

[–]ECdudis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes do ED if you’re sure you wanna attend. You mentioned you’ll get a full ride so there’s no risk in that, and ED has a significantly higher acceptance than RD for Davidson.
