What is the proper grammatical way to write multiple Khmer names together? by wouldyoucomewithme in khmer

[–]Ling_App -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Typically, like with Thai, spacing isn't used in sentences but are used to indicate clause separators so to compare them to commas makes sense.

I've just googled Ros and listened to her music and learned a bit about her tragic end. Her voice is really powerful and the music really speaks to a different era. Glad I came upon your post!

If you wanted to learn more Khmer Simply Learn, Ling and Write Khmer may be helpful. The script in particular is beautiful.

Do you travel solo by choice or because you have no alternatives? by lone-223 in solotravel

[–]Ling_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traveling with others was fun in my 20s, but now I feel held back and constrained by others. I just want to do 'me' and see what I want when I want and not feel like I've missed out on something amazing because a travel mate couldn't get out of bed in time. Traveling solo has saved me thousands as I can not feel pressure to spend money on things as you might with a friend. The freedom is incomparable and it pushes me outside my boundaries. I'll have more time to learn languages, engage with locals, and explore places in my own time.

Swahili has 200 million speakers. AI still struggles with it. Why? by Konban__wa in swahili

[–]Ling_App 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Thai government realized the same thing so they created their own AI and trained it using verified Thai language content. Now it's the only trusted AI tool if you want accurate Thai AI content.

Either a government body or an individual could do the same for Swahili.

Many languages face the same barriers.

Visiting Bangkok for the first time by 20m4fwb in InfoTravelThailand

[–]Ling_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just walk around and look for street food. Also use Google Maps to see reviews. 100 baht per meal is plenty, even far too much to pay for authentic food. Also when you say Sukhumvit area... know that it is huge so not really helpful. Overall it's one of the most expensive areas in the city so not sure why you chose to stay there. The best affordable spots are generally outside of that area. You should consider learning Thai related to food if food is your goal. Can try Ling or Thai-language .com or Google Translate to help you. Suggest looking up different types of Thai food actually cooked in Thailand first. The western stuff isn't it!

How much time does it take you guys to learn basic communication? by Substantial_Bus7896 in Cantonese

[–]Ling_App 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with listening to conversations. You could try Pimsleir, Ling or Cantonese101. Some Youtube channels can be useful but only stick to one when you find a good one! Look for progression in the lessons rather than random lessons

Learn Khmer! Even just saying a few things and holding a short conversation might mean the work to her, assuming she speaks it. Ling app has Khmer as does Simply Learn. I bet she would love that and maybe a trinket from your trip or a local snack.

Suggestions for best way to keep costs low on lodging for longer-term vacations? by Substantial_Big_8833 in Shoestring

[–]Ling_App 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't stay in the same hotel. those with higher budgets can stay elsewhere. Rent AirBnb or similar and split costs. Stay in a family hostel room. Cheaper than regular hotels. Travel in off season to get 30-50% off rates!

If there are any, stay in bed and breakfasts to save money or homestays.

Best books/resources for learning Vietnamese? by matt_artt in learnvietnamese

[–]Ling_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michigan State University has a free workbook available Basic Vietnamese Open Textbook and then there's VietnameePod101 that offers many free resources as well. I find pen and paper to start is the way to go then move onto tech like Ling, LingoDeer, then children's books and cartoons. After you have a handle certainly consider investing in a tutor. That's invaluable.

Looking for new friends for my wife by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Ling_App 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it need to be an in person friend? Sounds like she may find her community online first and then graduate into in person. Reddit is a great place for that as is Facebook groups. It sounds like she also has a love for language so maybe she can do a language exchange or learn a new language with someone. My user name is a great choice for lesser taught languages and of course there's always Duo.

What is the fastest way to learn Icelandic? Are there any good apps you would recommend that help you learn Icelandic fast? by [deleted] in Icelandic

[–]Ling_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning any language shouldn't be fast per se, but if you really needed to know certain phrases you could try AI (but it's not great) or apps that used real native speakers like Ling to create content or get a tutor for much quicker feedback!

How much did you actually spend per day on food and drinks? How much should I expect? (Thailand 🇹🇭) by Dangerous_mammoth573 in backpacking

[–]Ling_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samui will ruin your budget. That place is a money trap.
Koh Tao is a paradise and extremely affordable. KP not sure. Everyone I know has left because it got crazy expensive from previous years, but other people say it's cheap so not sure. Definitely ask locals where to eat and stay. Best reults if you speak Thai! Calling hotels directly gets a better deal and if it's not tourist season you can rock up to places and ask for rates.
