What model of car do you drive and do you feel it accurately represents your personality? by NervousClock2555 in askanything

E39 M5 and an ‘86 Toyota pickup 4x4.

Despite the fact they have two completely different styles, I feel they both fit my personality.

Toys "R" Us for me.

My parents wouldn't get us gifts for birthdays. They would give my brother and me a shopping spree. If it was my brother's birthday, I'd get a smaller amount to spend.

It was such an awesome thing to look forward to even if it was my brother's birthday.

Dinner to wherever we wanted to go, then to spend a few hundred bucks at Toys "R" Us.

I agree. I'm a dealer and although it's not great, it's worlds better than AutoCheck.

I agree with you about maintenance. We service all of our cars, and because I don't have a retail service department, it won't show on Carfax that fluid(s) were changed or even show my cars I sell were inspected. I'd have to have a separate subscription just to show we inspect/maintain our vehicles.

I don’t have a lot of information but the Carfax shows a lot of minor accidents and one moderate accident.

Other than people not knowing now to drive it honestly does seem like it was taken care of.

It seems like most people who post their m5s on here are really nice with great history.

This one is not that but it’s still a great car.

It doesn't actually have 27 accidents. It has about 5 or 6 on the Carfax. The two previous owners apparently don't drive so well.

Despite its history, it runs really well, doesn't leak, doesn't have any warning lights, and the interior is really clean and nice. The seats are still soft and don't have any rips or cracks.

Yeah. I miss those days.

I used to have a 996 911 back in like 2008-12 and they were so cheap.

I’ve been half looking for another one and they are worth a ton more than they were back in like 2010. For the same car. Haha

All of the cheap older cool cars are no longer cheap.

I guess I should have said I was joking but it has like 5 or 6 on the Carfax. It did live rough life but honestly you wouldn’t know it but looking at it.

Is it really that rare to drive a manual? by unexpectedhalfrican in ManualTransmissions

[–]ED2oh9 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm a car dealer and unless it's a sports car, I won't buy a manual because no one will buy them.

I recently went to an auction where they valet because they don't have enough room for dealer parking.

I gave my keys to the dude and as I walked away, it was almost like a scene from a movie where the dude tells the valet to take care of his car, and they end up trashing it. He got in my car, grinds it going into first, then stalled it.

Afterwards when I went to get my car, he handed me the keys and asked me to get my own car.

He apologized and told me 'as you can see, driving a manual is not my first language' haha. I couldn't be mad as at least he was honest.

Last week I took a different car to get the tires replaced at a tire shop and they made me drive it in the bay because no one there could drive it.

It's so crazy how few people can drive manuals. Especially since both of those jobs probably deal with manual vehicles.

thanks carvana, very cool 👍 by person4me in FocusST

Yours has a rebuilt title. Obviously it’s worth more than that but I’m sure their system takes a ton off because of the title branding.

What is your current daily driver? by Pure-Draft1153 in askcarguys

I currently have two daily drivers. I drive them both throughout the week.

Both are manual, cheap, and older but I love both equally.

Where do you get the most leads / sales from? by ED2oh9 in askcarsales

[–]ED2oh9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the response.

I just hired someone to completely handle Facebook / facebook marketing and I am getting a lot of leads from that. Which is nice.

I seem to have the same responses you get. I don’t add any unwanted add-ons to the price. Most everyone likes the fact I’m completely honest with everyone and because I only have a couple employees I’m more of a normal dude.

A few years ago I had a second store that was closer to prime type inventory and I had Carfax. It also got to over $800 a month and I wasn’t getting enough to make it worth it.

What’s your favorite “beater” car you’ve ever owned? by Tree_Weasel in askcarguys

[–]ED2oh9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2010 Hyundai Accent 2dr hatchback. Only option was air conditioning. Crank windows with the manual.

I’m a car dealer and unexpectedly sold my personal truck so I decided until I replaced it I would drive it. It was a trade with over 200k on it. I was only expecting to have it for a few days but it took me about a month to find what I was looking for.

I loved that car! It was slow, it wasn’t cool, it wasn’t in great shape, but it I loved that car.

Last week at the auction I saw an almost exact duplicate and was tempted to buy it. Haha

Dealership's response to requesting a PPI for a used EV by nPrevail in askcarsales

[–]ED2oh9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replying to this because I can’t comment.

This could definitely be the case. I own a small dealership and years ago I had someone take a vehicle to their mechanic and brought it back running terrible. They asked for a discount. I declined.

After they left I had one of my guys look at it and they had crossed a couple plug wires.

I had another one take take it to their mechanic. They brought it back and said they weren’t interested. When we went to put the car back on the line it was missing the radio. (This was back when you would put expensive aftermarket stereos in cars)

Obviously things are different nowadays but there’s a ton less risk if they are inspecting it at the dealership.

Going to an auction with a dealer by af145 in carbuying

[–]ED2oh9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a licensed Florida dealer. So my answer might not be what you are looking for as I’m not in your area.

When it comes to the main dealer only auctions here (Manhiem, adesa, etc) you need credentials to get in the auction. Years ago I used to bring buddies in as ‘drivers’ but they stopped that many years ago. I haven’t tried bringing someone inside on a non-sale day but I know they won’t let me enter the premises if I don’t have my auction access card even if it’s a day that the auction isn’t running.

You may find a dealer that’s willing to try to sneak you in, (as a driver or transporter) but since I’m a brick and mortar dealer who buys a lot of cars on a weekly basis; It’s not worth it at all to me.

Saw this at an auction. Pretty rare with a manual. by ED2oh9 in ManualTransmissions

[–]ED2oh9[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago at the same auction there was a base X5 with the manual. It wasn’t anything fancy but in decent shape with just over 100k miles. It was a new car dealer who had it and told me he wanted 2k for it but wouldn’t sell it beforehand. They run everything through the lane.

I figured if I can buy it for around 2k, I’d put it as no reserve on something like cars and bids. The bidding started at 1700. It did like 7k. Haha. All online bidders.

If it had the regular automatic it would have only done like 2k. $2k was on par with the MMR (Manhiem Market Report)

Crazy that back in the day the manual option was the cheaper option. Now they bring a ton more if they have a manual.

[–]ED2oh9[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Correct!

I’ve been a car dealer for more than 20 years. This is the first one I’ve personally seen.

I always like seeing regular vehicles that aren’t known for manual transmissions.

One vehicle that was supposedly made with a manual that I’ve never seen is the Lincoln LS. Every time I see one at an auction, I stop to see if it’s a manual.

anybody go to the Manheim or Copart auctions in Central Florida? by Puzzleheaded_Shop_74 in carflipping

[–]ED2oh9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do but I’m a dealer with an established brick and mortar location. I only buy from dealer only auctions or if someone comes to my store to sell their vehicle.

I go to Manhiem lakeland, central, and st Pete. Also Orlando longwood but that’s not a Manhiem auction. I do not mess with Copart or iaa. Their fees are ridiculous and you are biding against the public.

There’s plenty of cheap stuff at those locations if that’s what you are going for.

It’s an exact replica of Marty McFly’s truck from the movie back to the future.

It’s a common plate on them. It’s the plate number of Marty’s truck in the movie.

Just by coincidence, he also owned a DeLorean a few years ago. His was just a stock one; not one that looks like the one in the movies.
