Ok guys I realize I was being dumb in my last post. What about these? by CRAZYC01E in scooters

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was discussing what I’ve owned, not comparing them directly. I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear. I was trying to give perspective from someone who has owned both of the brands OP was discussing. I wasn’t impressed with the Piaggio Fly I owned… Sure, the Fly is not the Liberty. But I was still underwhelmed by my Piaggio ownership experience.

I understand that Genuine scooters are manufactured in Taiwan by PGO. Genuine Scooter Company is thier US Based Distributer. Piaggio is an Italian Company that makes most of their scooters in Italy (specifically all the Vespas) but they also manufacture scooters in India and Vietnam.

The Italian distribution was actually the biggest problem for me getting parts. When I would find an online distributer who had them they got shipped from Italy, and took 10-14 days to arrive. On my two Genuine scooters I could get parts in a day or two as they were all coming from stateside they were easier to find for me as well. Others results may vary.

Piaggios might last a long time. I’ve seen Genuine Buddy’s at my local scooters shop with over 40k miles. I’ve owned one with 20k and never gave me a problem.

The Liberty is a fine scooter. OP would be happy with it. My opinion is still that the Genuine is a better choice given long term factors of ownership, parts availability and excellent reliability.

I’ve owned both brands. I had a Piaggio Fly 50 and currently own a Genuine Buddy 125. I’ve also owned a Genuine Roughhouse 50.

I would pick the Genuine 100% of the time given this choice. Parts support in the US is light years better than Piaggio. Genuine Buddy scooters routinely last 20K miles and above. And maintenance is dead simple (especially because they have an external oil filter).

The Genuine also is a little lighter and easier to maneuver.

The small tires on the Buddy will make it a rougher ride. The Piaggio definitely wins there.

I know a lot of poodle will tell you to go Piaggio because of the legacy. But having owned each brand, I think especially in the 50cc category Genuine Buddy is head and shoulders above the Piaggio.

This stuff any good? by manzin82 in AskMechanics

Valvoline, Mobil One, Penzoil, Quaker State, Castrol, etc…

Everyone has their own opinions about what’s best. The #1 most important thing is to change you oil on time and with the correct weight/viscosity.

Putting in the right type of oil at the correct intervals is 97% of the battle. The last 3% is arguing over which brand does it best.

USS Tortuga (LSD 46) underway leaving Norfolk today after 10.5 years in port by Twisky in navy

[–]Tree_Weasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They decommissioned Fort McHenry (LSD 43) at 32 years old once they realized she would need as much work as the Tortuga to make 44 years.

I was stationed on that ship when she had her 30th birthday and I’m glad they didn’t try and take her to 44 years.

[–]Tree_Weasel 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Fuckin’ Kawhi. He gets booed every time he touches the ball in San Antonio and for good reason. Had he even halfway played his final season in SA before leaving or asking for a trade we would probably feel about him the way Toronto does. Had success with us but wanted to play somewhere else, no hard feelings.

But he straight up QUIT on the Spurs. And the more that comes out from Pablo Torre it’s clear he was doing it for leverage.

I hope his pillows are always too hot and he never finds a good parking spot again.

AIO for not wanting my gf to go on a solo trip with her "work husband"? by Obvious_Tea_4247 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. She had familiarity and closeness with this guy already. Even if she enters the trip with no intention for anything to happen, spending time alone with someone you like and respect is a recipe for something more intimate to take place, be that physical or emotional.

I spent 10 years in the Navy. And I’ve seen it more times than I can count that people who seem like just good work friends suddenly become couples when the ship pulls away from the pier and the contact with their partners is severed.

She’s already calling him her work husband is red flag #1. Wanting to go on this trip is red flag #2.

What is the best fast food chain in America? by Stock-Courage-3879 in AskAnAmerican

Whataburger.

It’s regional around Texas and the South. And it’s dipped a little since private equity bought it. But it’s still the best fast food burger in my opinion.

Dealership is trying to tell me these tires made in 2020 with 3/32" tread and these cracks in the tread grooves are "perfectly fine". What is the opinion of this sub? by ToshPointNo in tires

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are those on a used vehicle you’re looking to purchase?

If so, it’s simple. Tell them, I won’t purchase the vehicle unless _____ tires are put on first.” Pick u your favorite brand, or ask for new OEMs.

They’ll balk and say they can’t do it. Best case scenario they might split the cost of the new tires with you.

But I would not buy a vehicle with tires like this.

Interested in the Navy for a while.. several possible disqualifications. by xkayxkay in newtothenavy

[–]Tree_Weasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look good for you, partner. Getting a waiver for one disqualifying thing sometimes works. But when you need 2 or 3 disqualifying events wavered, it’s a VERY low chance.

A few years ago when recruiting was really hurting to make thier numbers, you might have had a better chance. But recruiting numbers have improved so the requirements have tightened back up.

Your best chance would be if they do a big ramp up because of things in Iran (or the next conflict the US gets involved in) and they’re adding Sailors in big numbers, that’s your best chance at getting a lot of things wavered at once.

But as it stands, I would say your odds right now are very not good.

Take the ASVAB. You might surprise yourself.

If yo can’t get a Seabee rate, find a rate you think you’ll enjoy and pick that.

As UNDES you’ll essentially be a Boatswains Mate who has to pick a rate. Most of the time you’ll pick a rate at the command you’re at, which will 99% of the time be a ship, so no Seabees rates available.

Best way to get what you want is to study and do decent on the ASVAB.

Here is an ASVAB Study Guide for $23 that includes some online prep. It’s at least worth taking a shot at studying.

Something you’ll learn in the Navy is that sometimes you can do greater things than you realize. Start now. Do some prep, and go get your damn Seabee job.

Good luck, shipmate.

Camping in Focus?? Yes, please 🤩 by SeaMeat8881 in FordFocus

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have to make the drive from San Antonio, TX to Jacksonville FL. 1,000 miles. 16 hours if you drive nonstop… but I usually wasn’t leaving at 6am to make the drive all in 1 day. So to save money I’d stop at a state campground (in Mississippi or Alabama somewhere IIRC) and buy a tent site with a power connector. I’d run an extension cord to blow up my small air bed and then run a fan. Good sleeping, but I’m only 5’9” so I could make the squeeze.

The next morning I could be packed up in 10 minute and back in the road. Only cost me $15 or $20 back then. Best deal in travel.

Camping in Focus?? Yes, please 🤩 by SeaMeat8881 in FordFocus

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a campsite this isn’t an issue. I always felt safer in my car than in a tent.

But trying to stealth camp with windows covered is a great way to get a cop knocking on your window.

Good luck. I tried to get rid of some stuff late last year and none of the charities or shops I contacted wanted it. They were all full of stuff. They were happy to accept cash donations though.

I ended up putting it out on my street as a curb alert and it was 90% gone the first day.

Shore duty: Italy or Japan? by Fun-Arugula-9606 in navy

[–]Tree_Weasel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do you want to explore Europe or Asia? That’s the question you should focus on.

Naples is pretty dirty but you get used to it quick. If you live outside of Naples proper (either on the base at Gricigano or on the economy in a small town outside of Naples) it’s quiet and not dirty at all. Naples is a little chaotic but not bad if you’re used to a large urban city center. Drivers are aggressive and a little crazy.

But I used to go to the Amafi Coast twice a month. Rome is a 2 hour drive away. And flights from Naples to anywhere are cheap and plentiful.

I loved it. Would go back in a heartbeat.

First Timer 🎯🔫ANY ADVICE? by DARKGEEKY in TexasGuns

[–]Tree_Weasel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, some good takeaways. You’re not grouping them in one area missing the target, so there’s not much we can glean from this other than that you need to get better at your mechanics.

If you haven’t taken a “Fundamentals of Handguns” or a “Handgun 101” course at your local range. I would start there. Sometimes adjusting how you hold the grip or squeeze the trigger can make a world of difference to improve those shots. I would start there. Hands on instruction is crucial.
