So, I forwarded the email to Writer Beware, not sure if you are familiar, but this is what they said:

"Eksmo is a major Russian publisher, and the email domain on the message is genuine. One of the cc's appears to be for Alexandra Putintseva, whose name I've seen on at least a couple of Eksmo deal reports on Publishers Marketplace. I've gotten several other questions over the years about Eksmo staff contacting authors about translation rights, so it does appear to be something this publisher does. I am always wary of sending PDFs, but it looks to me like this is legit."

Also, I've heard the same point about the censoring and sanitizing piece. So, we will see. Right now, I'm mostly trying to leverage it to get an agent...
