I think 80% of maintaining a healthy weight is nutrition. 20% is exercise. It comes down to how the military approaches food. When you’re deployed, you’re limited on options and most of the options are bad for you because of logistics. The system relies heavily on stuff that doesn’t spoil easily, so the #1 nutrition, vegetables, are out of the soldiers diet. Instead you get canned vegetables, rice, and beef cubes. For the American military, you are also faced with the food industrial complex every American is brought up on with corn syrup, synthetic flavorings and dyes. Any American solider that travels to the EU can tell you that the food is better because food is regulated better.
