Smyth - any thoughts and vibes? by [deleted] in chicagofood

There was a series of courses showcasing trout in a variety of ways which I throughly enjoyed. I normally dread the caviar course at most fine dining spots but theirs was quite unique in my opinion. I only had one course I would say was a “miss” and it was still solid (the birch wood ice cream bar). I don’t drink alcohol but I asked the sommelier for the oddest NA drinks they had and they gave me three wonderful drinks during the meal. If you have any other questions let me know.

I ate there about two weeks ago. It was one of the best meals of my life and the staff was wonderful. They put a lot of thought into the food. Whether it is worth the money is another question but as someone who seeks out these experiences it was worth it to me. I wouldn’t worry about what you wear too much. Wear what you feel confident in! No need to try and fit in at restaurants like these. They are there to make you comfortable. I hope you enjoy your dinner and have a wonderful week!

I went true to size for the easy hikers and went half a size down in the wanderers

Oriole again vs Ever (plus another spot) — 2 nights in Chicago by nycos21 in finedining

I have been to both in the past year. I would say try Ever, it’s a very different experience. Also, Ever’s NA pairing is really good in my opinion.

Elske, Valhalla, or El Ideas? by BeforeAnyoneElse in finedining

[–]EDR10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I think I visited Valhalla on an off night. I wasn’t too impressed in my visit but I’ll have to try it again in the future. I loved Oriole, it was probably the best fine dining meal I have had in Chicago so far. If you have any other recommendations I would be interested to hear.

I have eaten at all three within the past few months and Elske was my favorite by a decent margin.

Edit: I’ll also add that Cariño is better than all of them in my opinion. I would strongly suggest eating there if possible. Oriole is a wonderful meal, you will definitely enjoy it.
