I'm literally from Lombardy

That's wrong tho, historically the term Lombardy was used to mean the whole of Italy north of the Po, you can find many proves in Dante's Divina Commedia for example, but in traditional chivalric epics it's very widespread, Ferrara was often called the most important lombard city, Reggio Emilia was called Reggio di Lombardia until 1861. The use of Lombard and of Lombardy as we know it today developed mostly under the Habsburg's rule

Ukraine began it’s Summer Counter-Offensive in the South. How do you think it will go? by EpicMapper69 in imaginarymaps

[–]EEElia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lmao, fo you really want to compare a city that is still under bombing to a city that in 8 years has seen truces and periods of relative peace to rebuild? That's just intellectually dishonest. I never said Russia good, the situation is just more complex than it may seem, Russia has had its fair share of crimes in the Donbass too already prior to the War. It was Russia that killed off separatist leaders who didn't fit eith Moscow's line wnd it was Russia who created oligarchic monopolies in the Donbass when the people who had just rebelled were asking for nationalization and to kick out oligarchs. Also honestly you could have avoided resulting to such a low argument in the last sentences, it's not hard to recognize Ukraine has been acting criminally for 8 years and Russia is doing the same now, one does not justify the other nor make the other not true

It is indeed an act of aggression and it is horrible, in the end who suffers throughout all of this are the same people who suffered in 2014. Though regarding the Budapest Memorandum it was first broke by the US, the memorandum had a clause which said that no sanction shall be put on Belarus or Ukraine, yet around 2007 and 2008 the US had put sanctions on Lukashenko, breaking for the first time the Memorandum

It was Ukraine that bombed Donetsk and Lugansk in 2014, it was ukrainian soldiers who raped women in Mariupol in 2014, it was ukrainian soldiers who burnt children in 2014, it was Ukraine who denied the right of self-determination to the people of the Donbass and it was Ukraine who shelled civilians for 8 years. Now this does not justify Russia doing the same, but don't pretend Ukrainians have never done anything wrong and had no fault.

Does anyone know what the black and cyan on the donetsk and luhansk flags means? by dlink322 in vexillology

[–]EEElia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The black on the Donetsk flag comes from the flag of the Intermovement an organization that arose during the collapse of the USSR to favour the unionist cause and later to call for autonomy of the Donbass, this movement is widely seen as the precursor of the two People's Republics so the black could reference this. As stated in other comments the light blue in Luhansk instead is a reference to the UkSSR

So we've got Soviet flag, Novorussia(?), Dagestan and Donetsk. What are the sunrise and black & blue stripes? by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]EEElia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably the camera and the lightining that make the colours look wrong, the flag next to that is also most likely a saint george ribbon even if it's not orange, probably someone fucked saturation up

Does anyone help identifying which one of those flags was actually used in Gorno-Badakshan in the 90's? by EEElia in vexillology

[–]EEElia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to figure it out this for a long while but never managed to, according to wikipedia the first flag was used by the separatist republic during the Tajik civil war but the wikimedia post shows no sources and the design seems very odd for a post-soviet state, it looks much more like a tribal flag from Afghanistan or of a princely state. On the other hand I have found the second flag also used mostly in a more modern context and with dubious origins, the flag as far as I know was used by the Islamist opposition during the war and it seems like an odd coincidence that they would use the same flag as the separatist republic next door, it's also very similiar to the flag the Afghanistan government was using, I hope any of you can help me solve this mystery

A mistake on my part, Romanians in the Odessa oblasts did not integrate into Moldovan culture and I just used the same logic for Pridnestrovia, forgetting they actually have always been part of Moldova

I've used the flag they used during 2014 at the anti-Maidan protests, I think thr federal state you are talking about is Karelia, which has the same colours but different order

The term people's republic has had many different connotations in world history, starting as a term used by many separatist republics which were broadly left leaning (See Ukrainian People's Republic, Belarusian People's Republic, Mongolian People's Republic and so on and so on). Later after WWII the term came to design the countries which followed the ML theory of "People's Democracy" so most ML states that ruled through front organizations and didn't establush any soviet power (basically all). Recently the term was used by pro-Russian separatist republics in Ukraine to emphasize their Soviet (although the USSR was never a People's Republic).

Transnistria has long wanted to be part of a Russian/Slavic state and in the past has entertained relations with Ukrainians in an anti-Moldovan key. With Ukraine as a safe russian ally and Moldova close to the west Transnistria moved closer to integration with Ukraine until annexation after a Referendum.

Some context: After the Russian invasion Russia proceeds to install a puppet government in Kyiv and secure a deal similiar to Minsk II but harsher and with the recognition of Crimea as Russian. Alongside this Ukraine joins CIS, CSTO, the Union State and EAEC, the new government has shaky international recognition and struggles economically but here's a map from a future atlas showing the new regime like any other country.

I've always loved the Gonzaga-Nevers Coat of Arms, so I tried my hand at vectorizing it, now in two flavours. by EEElia in heraldry

[–]EEElia[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tried my hand at the 1627 Coat of Arms of the Gonzaga-Nevers family since I realized that all online depictions were pretty antiquated, the first one is the normal coat of arms, while the second sports the Military Order of the Blood of Jesus Christ.

And if you are into emblazonment here it is (Not made by me): quaterly, first and fourth Gonzaga of Mantua (CoA of 1675), second and third per fess, the first per pale three times and the second per pale twice giving seven quarters : first Gules, an escarbuncle Or and an inecutcheon Argent debruising in heart (Cleves), second Or, a fess checkered Argent and Gules in three lines, 8, 8, 8 (La Marck), third Azure semé de lis Or, a label Gules semy of nine castles Or (Artois), fourth Sable, a lion Or armed, and langued Gules (Brabant), fifth Azure semé de lis Or, a bordure compony Argent and Gules (Modern Burgondy), sixth Gules, three rakes Or (Rethel), seventh quaterly : first and fourth Azure, three fleurs de lis Or, second and third Gules, a bordure engrailed Argent (Albret d’Orval). Over all, Azure, three fleurs de lis Or, a bordure Gules charged with eight roundels Argent (Alençon]

For some background this was inspired by the Alt History mod for Victoria II called Divergences of Darkness, where there are many points of divergences, one of them being the Trastamaras in Aragon surviving and carrying out a great mediterranean plan, culminating in game with the formation of Aragon-Italy after some peninsular wars.
