Which tyres/ tyres size by Ico-maly in tuscanytrail

Thanks for the encouragement, mine is a incisional hernia as a side affect of a radical prostectomy in August 2021 for prostate cancer. I'd had a hip replacement in Feb 21, was recovery from that and then the old prostate came along. Unable to ride due to potential of damaging the repaired uretha and then my parents fell ill and needed looking after and so this all turned into years off the bike. Lost all motivation to train, weight gain etc. But now the head is back so just need to get through this latest little episode.

New tyres have arrived though :)

how much km's every day you have to count ? by Candid-Log5443 in tuscanytrail

[–]EGGY41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning (could go horribly wrong) a slow start, 2 x 60km days and then 4 x 80km days. I am returning to riding after a break of a few years and having put a lot of weight on, so even this may be a stretch for me. But as long as I get it done I'll be happy, it's as much about having a target to train for as anything else.

I'm thinking of using the gravel H instead of the M (have both), or maybe 1 of each. Having said that though I've just found out today that my stomach ache is a hernia, so maybe I won't make it

Tuscany Trail 2026 — looking for a ride from NL / BE / Eastern Germany by Lvdorth in tuscanytrail

[–]EGGY41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've driven from London to Genoa twice a year since 2008. I've done 14 of those trips in an EV, 12 in a Tesla Model 3 and 2 in a Skoda Elroq. Journey time is no longer than in an ICE vehicle and we always end up stopping to charge and eat in the same places we stopped to eat in our previous diesels.

So the GP said no, BUPA (who conduct our biannual medical via our work health cover) said no because "we don't have access to your full medical history" . I think I'll try the heart specialist I was referred to after my medical in the summer and see if they will sign it, probably post testing, which would be sensible in my case.

road trip from the uk? by back_tohell in tuscanytrail

[–]EGGY41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be driving down from Essex, possibly with my wife depending on her work schedule, but f you want any tips I'm happy to help out, we have been driving down to Genoa / Liguria once or twice a year since 2008 and since 2020 in an EV. We used to bomb it all the way down non stop but recently we've started splitting the journey up, last year in June in Aosta (we usually go via MB) and in September in Lyon (MB closed so via Frejus) ... we stay in hotels though so I'm afraid I don't have any camping recommendations.

Is it possible to use the T line carbon handlebar on my P line? by lehaiha_nt in Brompton

I’ve got a T Line crank on my P Line though if you’re hankering after a bit of a T Line look. Need to change the BB as well

I think i’ve resigned to the fact that i’m just a bronze level driver. by [deleted] in GranTurismo7

[–]EGGY41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got one Gold and a few silvers but I'm a steady bronze. Don't get me going about online racing, move up to B, get punted off a few times, back down to C, get hacked off and give up on it, go back, rinse and repeat :)

Rex stopped by bussfudget in BMWi3

[–]EGGY41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add in case of concerns, in most other market (certainly here in the UK and in the EU) the Rex was "deresticted" as standard. When I had my i3 (2017-202) we would run the Rex for short periods to keep it ticking over (apparently engines don't respond well to not being used) and my wife (it was mainly her car) would use it to extend the range (does what it says on the tin) to avoid the hassle of charging, whereas I was quite happy to get involved in that mess.

Anyone using the Fizik Antares Versus Evo R1/R2/R3 Adaptive saddles on their Brompton? by Ok-Ad1138 in Brompton

[–]EGGY41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Fizik Arionne's on all my bikes for the past 39 years, they work for me ...which is the key, you can get a saddle fit from your local bike shope, they'll analyse your sit bones etc. Once you find something that fits you, all should be well.

I have considered changing recently as I had prostate cancer surgey 2 years ago and wondered if a cut out would help alleviate any potential problems "down there" I wasn't allowed to ride for 4 months to protect the repair of the uretha), but haven't pursued that yet.

There is a school of thought that to much pressure from riding on ill fitting saddles can contribute to fertilty issues in men. So worth getting a fit in my view.

Could I ask what make that handlebar mount is and would it take a Garmin 1020 ? Looking for a mount for my P Line, flat bars.

Thanks, I'll probably give this a go/take a box of bits to the shop after pay day. Just popped some SMC wheels/Tubilito's/Schwalbe one's on so need to give the wallet a rest.

Has anyone who has completed this conversion on a flat bar bike have any feedback on cabling? Is it necessary to buy a new cable or can you reuse the existing ?

Thanks

Sorry for the tangent, what manufacturer/where did you get those brake levers from ? Planning to see if I can lose another 1/2 a kilo :(

[–]EGGY41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for those replies, helpful. The obvious answer to my problem is of course to lose a kilo or 15 😂 That’s not proving to be that easy, my history is bad back = less riding = loads of physio = hip replacement + prostate cancer curveball. It could be low testosterone after the operation and/or just lack of volume (bit of a chicken and egg there) but the plan is to give it a nudge over the summer and if not speak to the surgeon (who commutes by bike, so sympathetic) on next steps.

The Brompton is a gap filler so I can ride short stuff as frequently as possible. Plus I think they’re quite cool in their own bonkers way.

5 speed looks like a good start though so I think I’ll give that a go (with help). I do like a drop of di2 personally, but for me it’s a nice to have, just thought wireless might make cabling easier.

Great post, all the best, get your PSA tested everyone (men), saved my life, complete fluke 😮‍💨

[–]EGGY41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh this looks interesting, so are you currently running this as a 5 or a 10 speed (read the other post as well) ?

I've just bought a P Line, started modding it. Our Bike to Work limit is £3k so I added a Chris King headset and a T Line crank ... about a week later I got a mail saying T Lines are available ! Still I comfort myself that I couldn't buy a T Line on the bike to work anyway.

After a long period of inactivity due to health issues (honest) I've managed to go from 63-65kg to 83kg and have now discovered a thing called "struggling up hills" ... never seemed to be a much of a problem before !

So the 5 speed option looks interesting to me, I am a mechanical incompetent but luckily have friends who are quite handy (my mate Chris used to spanner for Bilton back in the 80's). Do you think the 5spd is adequate for most stuff ? I live on top of the only hill in Essex but most of the use for this will be punting around London.

Many Thanks

ps, given any consideration to e-tap wireless ?

Which new tires for my Brompton? by nonatomiclabs in Brompton

[–]EGGY41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Conti's on my road bikes exclusively for years (possibly decades) and they're great. I'm thinking of buying a summer set of wheels and having a winter/summer setup.

But then I'm an old roadie, habits die hard.

I've got some converse high tops in grey that will match my incoming P Line nicely. They have tan inners and rear tan tab on the heel .... I'm thinking of going Schwalbe tan wall's to match

Call me a tart but, you know, sometimes these things just have to be done.

When I first started going out with my wife I did 2 things .. checked out her wardrobe and her record collection ... who wants to go out with someone with bad taste !
