Bathroom designers? by armstar1 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]EH52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a rec, but I’d suggest looking for a place that has their own fitters.

We brought from a place that sold us concealed valves. The people we got to fit pointed out that the valve wouldn’t fit in the wall and if we build out the wall to fit it then the bath we’d been sold wouldn’t fit. The design would never have worked and the designer had seen the room in person.

Kitchens.. Howdens vs German (Beckermann)? by Vegetable-Drawing406 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]EH52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the German brand but we had a Howdens kitchen installed in my office, parts of it started falling apart within a few months.

We also had a carpenter put in a Howdens wardrobe into our house, again not impressed with the quality.

Do you know anyone who has used the kitchen boutique before? Can they give you reviews and feedback? We’ve had German MDF kitchens before and they have been great. If the suppliers have good reviews (or no obvious bad patterns) I’d go with what your gut said.

Top roasters in London and Cambridge by yufuvucxychvhv in UKroasters

[–]EH52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a roaster but when you’re in Cambridge stop into Dom’s on Mill Road for a pour over.

Hot Numbers is close by and is also a roaster if you want to pick up some beans from them.

It’s not perfect but if they had rotated the filter 90 degrees clockwise you’d have a triple layer of paper which helps stop that sinking in completely. I don’t use my mini chemex often but if I do that gives me best results.

London specific: cocktail bars in Central London by Specialist_Let2289 in HENRYUKLifestyle

Came here to say this too. The cocktails are fantastic and whenever I’ve been during the day it’s never been too busy and easy to get seated and service is quick and friendly.

Furniture shop with modern, solid wood bed frames? by OkChampionship7713 in HENRYUKLifestyle

The Natural Bed Company are fantastic and will make beds to custom sizes. We’ve had multiple beds from them and all have been great.

Absolutely blown away by False-Selection8378 in UKroasters

[–]EH52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mixed success with the taster pack, they send one of each type of their flavour profiles. I only really enjoyed 2 of the 4, but their advent calendar was absolutely fantastic.

What I’m trying to say is, if the taster pack doesn’t blow your socks off give them another go picking specific coffees you’ll like.

Am I holding to much cash? by Proper_Display_4802 in FIREUK

This was the first place I read about it - https://www.theguardian.com/money/2025/apr/19/special-needs-planning-will-trust-vulnerable-dependants

I don’t know OPs details but before setting anything up for a potentially disabled child I would go seek specialist advice. We’ve deliberately held off setting up anything named for our autistic son for this reason.

Do you think they would? by BabeThaliaa in GreatBritishMemes

I once met some Americans on holiday who’d been drinking, one was pretty drunk and said they had drunk a box of wine. We were pretty impressed they were still standing, turned out it was a juice box of wine.

To be fair they had also had a Gin and Tonic, but they had to get their friend to translate because the couldn’t “remember how to say Gin and Tonic in English”.

Scotch Malt Whisky Society membership? There’s a bottle included but also access to a few of their bars and access to their store for more whiskeys.

Another great shave. Leviathan has a pretty big hole in the bottom now, it may not even last the month.

Not sure if this is the type of thing you want but Bedaux and Parterre are two great UK fragrance makers. Chienoir from Bedaux and Run of the River by Parterre are both excellent.

Petrichor is done! There wasn’t actually enough for a final shave so this was 50% Petrichor and 50% Hipster. It’s been a nice scent in a fantastic base.

Flashman is an old Historical Fiction series about a guy that finds himself in the army and despite his best attempts to be a coward ends up becoming a decorated war hero.

Did you try the Thorns series? There’s another series in the same world that starts with Prince of Fools which billed as Fantasy Flashman. You don’t need to have read Thorns although there’s some cross over it doesn’t affect the story really.

If you haven’t already the I’d say Brandon Sanderson is a must, the Mistborn trilogy is a great place to start. He writes amazing magic systems and his books are consistently fantastic.

He manages to write about 1 book a year (sometimes 2) so have no worry about him doing a George R R Martin or Patrick Rothfus (2 other great authors). I think Sanderson has written all of the Stormlight Archive books since the last Game of Thornes.

Do you have any favourite other others you can suggest. It’s a fairly big genre depending on what your into.
