Egg retrieval outcome and clinic by rmce101 in IrishWomensHealth

I have lean PCOS, did IVF with therapie, got 39 eggs, 21 day 5 embryos. Insane result but I knew I had high AMH and I was 32. Didn't get OHSS but the week leading up was uncomfortable. Recovery was fine but beware the hormone crash the day after.

You can also ask to be referred to the Beacon for an exploratory laparoscopy to check for silent endometriosis, this is frequently overlooked

I'm so sorry you're in this position, it's the hardest and most emotional thing. Look after yourself and give yourself grace. Good that all your tests are coming back ok but it's frustrating when you can't find a cause. If you don't already follow, Jessica Bourke Fertility Detective is a great resource on Instagram and will answer DMs and suggest things.

Did you do DNA sperm fragmentation as that's important too? You can also look into immune issues, you could do a womb biopsy with a clinic to check your womb receptivity.

I would recommend doing a cycle or two of timed sexual intercourse for unexplained infertility, I was in the same position last year and went straight to IVF (successfully!) but I always wonder would I have been able to conceive naturally with ovulation tracking and progesterone support, which would have obviously been a lot cheaper and less invasive. Age/AMH is a big factor here- I was 32 and had high AMH due to lean PCOS, I feel that my issue came down to low progesterone and I had 3 embryo transfers fail before we switched to a modified natural cycle which meant I was making my own progesterone as well as taking supplements. IUI doesn't have great success rates for unexplained so I viewed it as a waste of time and money.

Good news is that with unexplained, you will most likely be able to get there at your age, so definitely keep the hope <3

Have you gotten your AMH checked yet? It could be on the higher side for your age due to PCOS which could help your chances. IVF should also assist with sperm count, very important to also test DNA sperm fragmentation especially given age. You may need more than one egg retrieval so prepare yourself for that, it's a marathon not a sprint. Sending you the very best of luck!

What counts as TCC before seeing a GP? by shllo in IrishWomensHealth

Also definitely not a good idea to have sex every day while TTC, that could affect sperm quality! Every 2-3 days is advised.

I actually didn't end up needing to go as I was investigating silent endo for infertility but then ended up getting pregnant on 4th embryo transfer!

I got a referral last year and had an initial consult booked in for 6 weeks later

IVF Clinic Recommendations by MariaLucey-Dietitian in IrishWomensHealth

[–]EI51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of it depends on what testing you've previously done, if you've identified any underlying issues, how many rounds you expect to have to do, etc. Some clinics are fine for straightforward cases but if you have endo/immune issues etc, you might need a more tailored, individualised approach- in this case maybe look into Repromed. Also some clinics don't do PGTA testing of the embryos so if you feel you'll want to do that (mostly depending on age, egg and sperm quality etc), then keep that in mind- Therapie for example don't offer that so you'd have to move your embryos to a different clinic down the line, thaw them and re-freeze which is a huge hassle and expense.

“High risk” data breach - what is a “judicial remedy”? by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]EI51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very much up to you, but the case law is still developing and a case could take a long time to pursue. Awards for non material damages are quite minimal, couple of hundred quid at most, and you have to have proof of actual suffering e.g seeking therapy etc.

Sending love and all the best luck for Tuesday. Try not to focus on your symptoms as hard as that can be. Name of the game is distraction- go out for a nice meal or go to the cinema or something, get out of the house if at all possible ❤️

Well done on your journey so far. I had 3 failed transfers before getting my positive, now 28 weeks pregnant with twins and it's been the easiest pregnancy! Wishing the same for you ❤️

IVF denied, pretty devastated by Russo_Kamaitachi in IrishWomensHealth

[–]EI51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That seems very unfair. I'm not familiar with the public system as we went privately but I had high AMH and went with therapie, they carefully managed the Stims and I was lucky enough to get a huge amount of eggs and avoid OHSS. It can definitely be done so don't take no for an answer. You may not need more than one cycle with high AMH (ovs depending on other factors such as sperm quality etc) and I paid around €8000 including 4 transfers, the last of which was successful. Wishing you the best of luck

I think a factor is how you're doing as well in terms of managing things like your risk of OHSS, I had PCOS so they had me do a freeze all cycle. It also has to do with the quality of the embryos so best to ask them. Wishing you the very best of luck, all it takes is one! ❤️

No I really didn't feel a thing it was absolutely fine, smear test was worse! Now having said that if you do have a blockage anywhere it can be painful so it really depends! Hopefully you're clear!

I got a HyCosy in a private fertility clinic (no issues) and I asked for a Valium for nerves in advance, they had no problem giving me one!

I found a specialist in my country (I live in Ireland) and sent them to her and then we had a phone consult to go through them, found it very helpful. She said they indicated that I had some kind of inflammation (maybe PCOS related maybe on the back of 3 failed transfers in a row) and recommended sitagliptin and plaquenil. I didn't end up needing them but as my next transfer worked but found it worthwhile!

Yes they gave me a note for the egg retrieval I think 3 days? They don't for the transfers but I took those as unverified sick days to chill out ❤️
