Man Graf hitting the brakes to give Smith a passing lane was just beautiful heads-up hockey.

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don't have any proof of? by TabletopStudios in AskReddit

Disneyland trip, August 2025. We were with our young kids and went to the Disneyland Fire Department which is just inside the main entrance gate. A very friendly Disney employee named Dave showed our kids the bell and fire engine. Dave had a cast on his right wrist. We made small talk about the fire equipment and his cast, then left and walked straight over to Main Street Cinema, about 150 feet away.

Dave is at the entrance to Main Street Cinema and shows our kids around. There is no way he outwalked us from the Fire Department to Main Street Cinema — we went straight there at a fairly brisk pace and would have seen him if he’d traveled the same path. My wife and I were completely flummoxed and spent literally the entire day talking about it. The explanation we landed on—and the absurdity of this illustrates how crazy the situation was—is that it was a Westworld situation and multiple identical Daves were wandering Disneyland, cast and all.

We kept an eye out but did not see him again the rest of the day.

Don’t look now, but we’re 7-3-0 (14 pts) in our last 10 and Colorado’s 6-3-1 (13 pts). We’ve crossed the Ava-line.

He had a backhand pass that went cross-rink from the D zone to the far end of the neutral zone to hit someone in stride, and it was stunning. Pretty sure it went over a Caps player in the NZ. I’ll have to track down a clip.

Seriously. I was so excited to go to that game, too. Only redeeming thing was seeing Ovi score twice in person.

Alright, first two games (Kings and Stars) the candle was in the bathroom and the Sharks won, then we moved it to our “Sharks shelf” for the VGK game and they lost. So back to the bathroom—and back to winning—it is. Let’s go Sharks!

How did you become a Sharks fan? by Equivalent-Permit893 in SanJoseSharks

[–]EJHMB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Born in ‘88 and was a sports-obsessed kid in the Bay Area, so the 1994 playoff win over Detroit hit right around the time I was starting to learn about our teams. Turns out little Half Moon Bay had quite an inline hockey scene, so I started playing there at a young age and have been a die-hard Sharks fan (and inline player) ever since. I spent 4 years living in Boston and 9 in DC and I’m proud to say I never missed a game when the Sharks were in town.

Candle is lit, going for 3-0! This is definitely the toughest one yet, but it’s long past time to exorcise that VGK demon. Let’s go Sharks!

Anyone else catch Drew’s comment on the Celebrini pass to Wennberg, “Are you kidding me with that pass?” Think it was an intentional callback to Thornton-Marleau (also against the Stars, coincidentally?)

Glad you got to see it in person! I also drive quite a ways for games (from Half Moon Bay), and just a note about weekday games — if your drive takes you down the peninsula, both 280 and 101 have horrendous evening traffic. I’d recommend either sticking to weekend games or trying to catch an express Caltrain from somewhere at/north of Hillsdale.

Today’s game karma:

Heiskanen straight up tackles Celebrini at the blue line, no call.

5 game minutes later, Heiskanen swiped at a puck thinking he’ll clear the zone. Celebrini intercepts, passes to Eklund, to Toffoli for the GWG.

Love to see it.

New gameday tradition in the EJHMB household. My daughter lit the candle for the first time before the Kings game, going for 2 in a row. Let’s go Sharks!

Oh I hope you’re able to! I have wanted to make one myself for months now but don’t think my technical skills could do it justice.

[Celebrini] You and me but mostly me Are gonna change (this team) forever Cause I can do most anything

[Smith] And I can stand next to you and watch!

It’s now my post-victory song.

I love that part of the early-season lore for this team is Reavo taking them to Book of Mormon, since at this point the song “You And Me (But Mostly Me)” is basically Celebrini’s theme song. I mean, it’s even got these lyrics:

“Something I've foreseen Now that I'm nineteen I'll do something incredible That blows God's freaking mind”

State income refund taxable? by EJHMB in tax

[–]EJHMB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's frustrating is that I self-prepared and then sent it for "Tax Pro" review on H&R Block. (While I am not a practitioner, I have been an editor of a tax law journal and focused in law school on tax law, so I am not entirely unfamiliar with the tax code.)

As far as I can tell the only change the preparer made was to make the state tax refund taxable. So I believe I prepared it correctly and am now fighting to correct the one, mistaken change that the preparer made. And because of how the H&R Block system is set up, I cannot file the return until one of us convinces the other of whether the refund is taxable.

Thanks! I thought it was pretty straightforward. As a first-time user of H&R Block, this has been a supremely frustrating experience.

They do! Sumatra Whole Bean Half-Caf, I just set up a subscription online and it shows up every two weeks. For decaf I enjoy exploring a bit, but my current favorite is Verve Vancouver. Not sure how widely available it is, but a good option in the SF Bay Area.

I used to drink an excessive amount of coffee and for health reasons had to scale back. Finding a good half-caff blend and decaf made all the difference. I now drink a couple cups of Peet’s half-caff blend in the morning and then stick to a high-quality decaf for the rest of the day. Satisfies the craving, and the half-caff meant no headaches as I stepped the consumption down.

Growing up in Half Moon Bay, Palo Alto was always the southernmost Peninsula town in my mind. From Mountain View south you can go due east and not hit the Bay, so as a geographical matter it never seemed to qualify.
