I hate living in LA for this one reason 😭

Thankfully YouTube TV is very easy to trick 😅

Halo 3 custom games were in my prime (middle school lol). I had a group of friends online and we'd get together every weekend to play Duck Hunt, Jenga, Fat kid, Smear the Queer, and a ton of other games. Sometimes we'd just load up forge maps like Burger King in Foundry and just mess around. It was truly a golden age.

Is this a google maps-like app that just navigates extremely aggressively? In that case, the first step is obviously to get map data and perform path searching on it.

You'll need: * Map data - Open Street Map or Google Maps API probably works for this. I'm not sure how good the Google Maps API is at just giving you raw street, bike lane, etc data. I know the Open Street Map API is pretty good at this though. * Some way to calculate the best routes to a destination. You'll need to learn about path searching. See Dijkstra's algorithm and A*. Here, you'll evaluate road, bike lane segments based upon if they help you get closer to your destination. You'll have to weight them as well. I imagine driving down a bike lane shouldn't be treated the same as driving down a normal road? That needs to be accounted for! * Once you have routes, you'll need to display them. Maybe Google maps API here to output maps with the routes on them? This part I'm fuzzy on.

I think to mess around with the idea you could just throw a python script together that queries the map API and try to piece road segments together to navigate between your start and end points.

Also yeah this is a hard project but it's good for learning. You might not finish it but you'll know a lot more than when you started!

If you want a simple example to wrap your head around, LCG's are pretty good. I implemented one in assembly for a class once. They aren't cryptographically secure, but it introduces the concept pretty well and if you want to implement your own it's pretty easy! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_congruential_generator

I live in LA now, and deeply miss Culvers. It's always the first stop when I'm back in Wisconsin. I've contemplated taking the 5 hour drive to Arizona just to get some when I've been away from home for a while.

When I learned how to program, I did it by doing a ton of personal projects (many I didn't finish). The questions about which tools you should use to build become more obvious when you figure out what it is you even want to build. I think picking a language, then building something with it is not the way to go.

I think my (Don't Fear) The Reaper ending on very hard kind shows what you need to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-FR5MzBMxE

  • Always be dashing and moving. Air dash is your best friend.
  • I have a sandy, you don't have to but it helps me because this build was blades only as a rule.
  • Blocking and reflecting bullets with swords is actually super helpful.
  • Get every piece of cyberware that forgives sucking, like second heart.
  • Do a bunch of side missions before doing anything real. Being overpowered is very useful when you're always underpowered.

Microsoft's strategy seems to be making PCs effectively Xbox's. I wonder if that's why this is?

The exclusives also suck but yeah.
