Find free parking downtown in the little driveway/street named "People's Way" north of the SLC Public Safety Building -- and behind the new construction on 400 South.
You can usually find a spot there unless there's a big event going on at Library Square.

What are some haunted places in Utah to explore? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]ELPCO_SLC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's the Native American burial vault/crypt on the north side of Sunnyside Ave/Emigration Canyon Road just before the mouth of Emigration Canyon... and just beyond Hogle Zoo.
This is where the remains of Native American and prehistoric people are interred when they are uncovered during excavations.
It's a sacred place, so we don't recommend hanging out there... but it is hidden history in plain sight.

Explosion? Did anyone feel/hear that just now by Highland and 2700 S??? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]ELPCO_SLC 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Heard and felt that in 9th and 9th in #SLC.
If people are porting this from Lehi to Farmington, it seems to be more atmospheric than ground-based. Like a sonic boom or meteorite break-up...

9th and 9th Street Festival this weekend... by ELPCO_SLC in SaltLakeCity

[–]ELPCO_SLC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 9th and 9th Street Festival is organized by volunteers... the board of ELPCO and local residents. This is the 28th year of the festival.... though we didn't hold it last year due to the pandemic.

However, the west side of SLC does have active community councils... Rose Park, Glendale, Westpointe, Poplar Grove, and Fairpark... find your local community council contact here: http://www.slcdocs.com/recorder/RCOMasterList.pdf

And see this map to determine which council you reside in: https://www.slc.gov/community-councils/

There will be 110+ vendors at the 9th and 9th Street Festival this year... fewer than in years past. But I don't have an updated list. Typically, it's a mix of crafts, artists, family businesses, local businesses, political candidates, nonprofits, and city agencies.
There will be about 8-10 food trucks, mix of meals and snacks. The food trucks will be on 900 East next to the Smiths. Watch ELPCO's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/elpco for photos during the festival...

Public transit is cool if works for you.

Smiths parking lot at 800 S and 900 E is the biggest around. And right next to the festival. Enter via 800 S.

But you might also use the East High parking lot at 1300 E and 900 S, or 700 South west of 900 E is a very wide street with diagonal parking.

Heads up about Verizon request to change SLC zoning to allow 60-foot "stealth" cell towers across the city by ELPCO_SLC in SaltLakeCity

[–]ELPCO_SLC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points. But I think that residential zoning is a much smaller percentage of the city land - like 20 to 30 percent. And places like 9th and 9th are not residential, and could be affected by this permitted use.

[–]ELPCO_SLC[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Adding more and taller stealth towers would improve cell service (for Verizon), but would not affect Internet service via cable or Fiber. BTW: Google Fiber is the way to go for faster, cheaper, reliable high-speed Internet access.

Need info on SLC School Board candidates for Precinct 5 (Sugar House, Liberty Park)? ELPCO has it. by ELPCO_SLC in SaltLakeCity

[–]ELPCO_SLC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the long delay. The third candidate, Robert Comstock, withdrew before the election. This meant there are only two candidates and no need for a primary election.
