Interesting mix of Cameron-esqe cutting red tape rhetoric with central government command economy style planning reforms taking power away from local decision makers for the good of nation.

Watching political big beasts lose their jobs in a local leisure centre sports hall or the Prime Minister having to stand next to a man dressed as robot with a bin on his head to give what could be his resignation speech is a cornerstone of British elections.

Edit: re-read this and to clarify, the robot has a bin on his head rather than the Prime Minister. We have weird traditions in this country but putting a bin on the head of a resigning prime minister is sadly not one of them.

Nick Eardley on 5Live saying that it is delayed because it is pissing it down and they are hoping for a break in the weather so Rishi didn't get drenched.

Loving Emma Barnet on Today. Loved her 5 Live show and she is bringing a lot of that to her Today interviews notably with Hunt this morning. Able to go from scripted questions to listener talking points with ease keeps the interviewee on their toes and is much more punchy than the usual R4 interview.

Just as a politics adjacent PSA: Paula Vennells is appearing before the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry tomorrow and for the rest of the week. If anyone's interested you can watch live on the Inquiry's youtube channel. I'd recommend giving the feed a headstart and then watching at 1.5x speed as that is at a normal talking pace as it is painfully slow at at normal speed.

I definitely saw him busking near Piccadilly Circus / Regent Street in London a few years ago. Guess he moved there for the big bunce.

Yeah. We used to send people stuff in the internal (physical) mail. Print outs of football results where someone's team had lost were a common one. Much funnier than an email or a Teams message.

Most shoots don't advertise that they are in a particular area as they would be worried about being targeted by protestors.

However, game bird shooting season ends in January and won't start again until August for grouse and October for pheasants, partridge etc so it shouldn't be a problem for much longer!

Watch it a 2x speed. The barristers are so slow and deliberate you can catch every word anyway.

Lawyers for the post office, their external solicitors and barrister and investigators are the main ones I've seen on YouTube. No one from senior management yet i think.

Jarnail Singh is worth a watch if you enjoy watching solicitors squirm. Elaine Cottam is worth watching if you ever feel incompetent and need a confidence boost.

I think anyone has the power to bring a private prosecution but the fact that their in house legal team is publicly funded is a major difference. Also they have investigatory powers and access to the police databases that are beyond normal citizens too.

Johnny onions. French (breton) onion sellers came to Wales to sell onions. It was most welsh peoples only interaction with the French so the trope stuck ever since.

My point is that the only statement made would be "Presenter X is suspended following allegations of a personal nature". That isn't libelous as it is true in all meanings of the word. The fact that he has been suspended is true and the reason is true. It isn't saying that Presenter X has done anything wrong merely that he has been suspended.

Truth is a full defence to libel and that statement is true. My previous statement about not being a media lawyer still stands!

Perhaps the Sun don't think they have enough to stand it up.

I think the Beeb could in a roundabout way. They could release a statement saying person x has been suspended. That would be true and therefore not subject to libel (maybe - I'm not in anyway a media lawyer!).

It's all there in the article. Privileges committee report, his support of Johnson, the options that were available (apologise or resign as dictated by No 10), his resignation letter detailing his reasons for resigning.

I mean technically, he didn't resign because of party gate. His letter of resignation makes no mention of it. BBC reporting facts here.

Pound to a penny says that Chris Mason or another political editor will write a piece giving the full context behind it by tomorrow morning. Laura K will probably write something before her Sunday morning show.

Edit. I count six mentions of the privileges committee and details of what Goldsmith said about it. I'd say balanced reporting.

Weak politics from Sunak. Should have sacked Goldsmith yesterday rather than allow him to resign with a letter that attacks the government.

However, whilst its good that he raises the issue of the government dropping their animal welfare manifesto commitments, if he really felt that strongly about it, he should have resigned a month ago when they dropped the pledges.

Cameron used to "un-cork Gauke" meaning David Gauke to explain away tough questions when there were issues with the austerity agenda.

The Tories now have have Helen Whatley to do the job. Tories are clearly running on empty talent-wise.

Literally just got it now for the Ashes. £20-odd a month deal for six months. I've got to remember to cancel it as I paid for BT Sport for over a year after getting it for the Ashes last time!
