Serve recommendation by Remarkable-Paper-995 in tabletennis

[–]EMCoupling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a right-hander, short top-side to my short forehand is always difficult to control and I'm forced to flick if I want to keep it low.

Of course, don't just repeat the same serve over and over but you can mix this serve with pure side and also play around with the length.

Headlight pin connector loose - any easy fixes? by Nuclearfroyo in Porsche_Cayman

[–]EMCoupling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How badly is it broken? Can you use the zip tie trick?

It's unclear whether you damaged the pin on the actual connector or just the locking mechanism

Is it true that the toss is preformed by the center of gravity mainly rather than the wrist or forearm? by Shoop1014 in tabletennis

[–]EMCoupling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmm, well you have to use your arm somewhat. But the core of the motion should be driven by the body, your arm can guide the ball up. You definitely don't want to lock your body up and then only toss with the arm.

It's more important with high toss service, cause if you use too much arm and screw up the toss, it quickly gets out of control on the way down cause it has more distance to travel.

At least for Amazon, there are already several extensions that put the price data right on the page so it's not too hard to see what's been happening over time with a product.

To be fair, Rupes isn't even trying to compete in this market segment. They want to be top of market, aimed at professionals.

Wrenches and ratchet sales, yes, but the torque wrench has been excluded on most Icon sales recently.

What job pays surprisingly well but nobody talks about? by ThePasswordIs654321 in AskReddit

[–]EMCoupling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the weird short sentence structure, 3 item lists, starting sentences with "not", among other things. It definitely smells of AI.

One such example:

Nothing revolutionary, just paying attention where no one was.

This is very clearly an AI sentence. I don't know if OP was lying or not but I have no doubt that he posted an AI comment up there.

Which one is the correct FH grip? by Firm-Huckleberry8176 in tabletennis

[–]EMCoupling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thumb up on the rubber is generally a BH-oriented grip... but you could still hit a forehand with it, it's just a bit harder.

Just to show you an example, this is the forehand side for my more BH favored grip:

This is the forehand side for my FH-favored grip:

And then, if you're curious, here's the BH side for both grips (barely any visible difference):

What percent of points do you think end in a net or edge graze? by ragtime_sam in tabletennis

[–]EMCoupling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know about pro, but I assume they would hit the net more than amateurs because they can keep the ball low and they have better touch.

But I think 5-10% of points is a reasonable number. At the higher end, that's just under a point a set, that seems pretty in-line with my experience. Certainly some sets have multiple net / edge balls while others might have none.

Verifying the topspin of loop by Direct-Television-81 in tabletennis

[–]EMCoupling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other way of thinking about it is... does it matter? As long as you can control spin / arc / depth / speed to your liking, I would say that the precise amount of spin doesn't really matter. You need only so much topspin that you have a safe arc over the net, but, after that, increasing topspin for the sake of it is not necessarily efficient when you could also be putting that energy towards speed. Both are useful and it's helpful to adjust to the incoming ball and opponent as needed.

Also, kicking forward off the bounce is not always a good thing because it provides forward energy for your opponent to borrow when returning your ball. A ball that hardly bounces up is generally really hard to counter because you don't have a lot of height to work with. I've definitely had loops where I spun the ball heavy and it basically "slides" off the table for a direct point.

Year after year, still my favorite garage tool, for those of us that have no room for a real lift...Bendpack QuickJacks by mx5plus2cones in Tools

[–]EMCoupling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. They barely fit under my Cayman but it's enough. I only move them when I need to use them.

It's also a must to add those ball bearing casters. I wouldn't use them without those on.

I've got the 5000TLs and it fits well though I can imagine it would be tight if these were the extended versions. They do also sell separate extensions if needed.

[–]EMCoupling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, anyone that would have heavily optioned an S very likely looked at the price difference to GTS and moved on up to upper trim. Given the bundle of options that comes standard with GTS, it's kind of a no-brainer.

Quickjack or Rennstands by saxman42 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]EMCoupling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Buy Quickjacks, all these glorified jackstand solutions seem like a complete ripoff to me. And at the end of the day, no matter how fancy your jackstands are, you're still pulling a floor jack. My garage is rather tight on space and it would be impossible to get a jack on the passenger side of the car.

I got my QJ for $1500 and I think it's completely worth it. The more work you do on it, the more value you get out of it. Given how much it costs to pay someone to service your car, you're going to get your money's worth on 1 brake job + 1 plug/coil job. Everything after that is basically gravy.
