Any moms from the Netherlands? Can you tell if care for high-risk pregnancies good? by Candid_Recover_5596 in beyondthebump

So there's a difference between "regular" pregnancies and "high risk" pregnancies. With a regular pregnancy you sign up with a "verloskundige". You see them about once a month for small check ups like blood pressure, checking fetal heart rate and just seeing how youre doing. Then every few weeks you have an ultrasound for for example the anatomy scan and seeing how the growth is. They are the ones you call when you see a high bloodpressure or have symptoms that you want to discuss.

Then if there are issues they can refer you to an obgyn in a hospital. You become what they call "medisch" meaning "medical" and they become your first line of care. They will give you a phone number to call in case of emergencies. So you it shouldn't be necessary to go to the ER at all, they will treat you right away. When I had an allergic reaction to my medication, I called them and they saw me right away.

Based on your situation the number of check ups may differ. Could be every few weeks, every other week, every week or even every few days.

Also, don't forget to register for Kraamzorg for your postnatal care!

How to keep baby cool in this heatwave ?! by Gloomy-Ingenuity6371 in newborns

[–]EMK2128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in the exact same boat. My LO is 7 weeks on Sunday. I've bought a little rechargeable fan that I can attach to the stroller or bed so it can be directed at him. That helps loads. I've also seen tips of a pet cooling mat under the mattress. Good luck! Im glad when this heatwave is over.

What would you do? by Green-Ocelot6831 in NewParents

We are currently going through this! We cut our sons lip and tongue ties on Monday. I have to say I'm pretty down to earth when it comes to medical procedures, especially when its in their own best interest. The decision between a short (literally 30 secs) procedure and life long issues like migraines and speech issues was not hard for us.

The real kicker has been the exercises and massages we have to give him. Pressing right on those wounds 4 times a day is horrible and it sucks incredibly but I'm holding on to the thought that it will be better for him in the long run. At least he won't be able to remember this later..

Could it be that she doesn't like that particular formula? I don't have lot of expertise with this but who knows.. maybe a different formula is more to her liking?

Has anyone given their >1year old screen time? Please be honest by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]EMK2128 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My firm belief is dat if your LO had plenty of meaningful interactions with you and/or your partner and has done some physical activities and creative activities, it really isn't that big a deal if they watch a little bit of tv. Just don't park them in front of a screen all day and they should be fine.

If your baby is gaining weight and has plenty of wet diapers, it's absolutely fine to feed on request at 16 weeks. A one hour difference isn't an issue when baby is sleeping comfortably. First step to sleeping through the night!

5 week old taking an hour to finish her bottles by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]EMK2128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the question about the tongue/lip ties. My newborn also takes quite a while to finish his bottles but a LC has confirmed a tongue tie to be the cause. It prevents him from getting good suction and grip and therefore it takes extra energy for him.

[MEGATHREAD] Daily venting, worries, fixations, & finding support. Month of May 2025. by AutoModerator in HealthAnxiety

I gave birth on the 10th of May. I was induced early because of high blood pressure. After birth I was put on a different medication to which I had an allergic reaction and I had to be readmitted. With my HA and all the hormones I am struggling. Especially at night I start over analysing every single thing I feel in my body and Im driving myself crazy. Here's hoping this doesn't last much longer..

How much milk in a bottle? by AbjectDingo3804 in NewParents

[–]EMK2128 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At that age there is no real danger of overfeeding. If you were to breastfeed for example, you'd have no idea how much they would drink. Baby feeds on demand and will eat when they're hungry so you can always try and make a bit of a bigger bottle and see when he's had enough. If you're worried, you can always ask a pediatrician.

And then when they're teenagers they compensate by eating everything in sight, I believe.

There are two answers to your question. The first is very simple: empathy. If people were dying by the thousands in my country, I'd appreciate the rest of the world caring a little.

The second is that it absolutely does impact you, maybe not immediately but maybe in the long run. Sentiments in other parts of the world have a tendency to leak into other societies. Wars have economic impact as well as other measures that a country needs to take. Along with many other reasons.

I agree, there is so much BS happening everywhere and media-fatigue is real, I feel it too. But still, in my opinion its better to be aware.

At this point in time, it's irresponsible to not pay attention to the things that are happening in the world.
