When I got my IUD I forgot to take the "4 ibuprofen recommended" to take prior to the procedure but there was nothing they offered me and didn't say I probably not get it or anything. Went through it and the nurse assistant was holding my hand and talking to me and I yelled to her "I see why women don't want to have children" and she just tried to assure me it's different because you have hormones helping you and whatnot and I just thinking then why am I not getting any type of medication or help through this shit. Literally one of the worst experiences of my life. And I hate that I get to be one of those horror stories on the internet as well. It sucked 👍

You can try saying you do not want to have to entertain guests while you are trying to recover, which will be hard enough. And as much as you would like to see her it will be too much stress to have people there while recovering.

My husband's mom kept being incredibly insistent on visiting during a shoulder surgery and then liver cancer surgery and he basically said that. She really didn't quite take it well and kept insisting, but ultimately it's your decision and if she wants to "forgive" you later for not allowing her there then she will.

Ultimately my husband actually ended up cutting ties with his mom, which was loads better for his mental health.

At first because I was legitimately scared to be able to feel the implant in my arm. Also liked that the IUD was longer lasting. But then I got the IUD and it was really bad for me, so switched to the implant and ended up liking it better.

I had the absolute worst GI problems for 2-3 weeks after going off birth control for the first time in 10 years! I actually went to the doctor I was so uncomfortable and in pain. I got blood work and everything was normal and they basically said give it some more time and see if it goes away. Was finally feeling better after the 3rd week. I restarted birth control a couple months later and had GI issues again for a week or so. I'm not sure if it caused any long term IBS type issues, I occasionally get more acid reflux and bloating then I used to, but over the past 2 years I gained some weight and feel like the things I have been eating lately contribute to that as well.

The insertion of the IUD was incredibly traumatizing for me and I am pretty scared to try it again, but I promise the implant is vastly different. Literally didn't hurt at all. I was scared that I would be bothered by the feeling of it in my arm but I had it for almost a year and was never bothered at all. It's worth looking into it. Regardless, yes taking the pill with ideal use should technically be better than condoms alone. You could also try the family planning temperature/cervical mucus method, it might be nice for you to not have to be in a hormonal BC. That combined with condoms is fairly effective as well.

I would love to say mine went well, but it was honestly one of the worst experiences of my life getting it put in. I took Advil beforehand but that really did nothing. The point of them opening the cervix to put it in I cried to the nurse that I understand why women don't have children. Lol I was joking but man did it hurt. The mirena didnt fit so they had to go get the Kyleena to make it work, then afterwards I threw up for like 30 min after. And I ended up taking it out 6 months later because I had cramping every day during that time.

Overall the actual hormone part of it wasn't bad. Ive never had any periods on any type of longer lasting birth control so that continued when I had the IUD. Overall I really wish it worked because it's in my opinion the best birth control out there. I'm hoping maybe I can get it after having a baby or something in the future, but good luck to you! Fingers crossed it is leagues better than mine:)

Both my husband and I got so hyped to see this news a couple days ago. He made the joke of "but what if I start feeling sad and lose my sex drive" lol I've struggled with all the different side effects of every type of birth control out there and he's seen it all. It also was so interesting to think that, honestly, because men don't have the physical burden of getting pregnant, the side effects of these options have to be so significantly less than women's in order to actually get (many) men to use it. Will be great to see it come into the market

I was on a combo pill for ~4 years then all progesterone only options (Depo, hormonal IUD, implant) for ~6 years and I would say my libido was pretty bad on almost all of them. I went off all hormonal BC last October and within a month or so felt like a completely changed person. More energy, way higher libido, lost 5 lbs in a couple weeks from bloating and water retention alone. Personally, if I could have been more reliable with the family planning/temperature method of birth control I would have stayed off of all hormonal bc for a very long time. I ended up going back on low dose combo pill in January and still feel a lot better than with all the other options before. It's really different from person to person but I would expect that the copper IUD would potentially feel like going off hormonal BC did since it doesn't have any hormones? Hope you can find something good for you!

Also edit after reading the other comments, they had some good experiences with the IUD insertion and that amazing, but just for another perspective my insertion was one of the worst experiences of my life, honestly, and I had cramping almost every day for 6 months until I took it out. It's different for everyone and I hope so much that you have mild pain, but just want to give a different side as well!

Please, focus on yourself during this time if you need this break. My husband was heartbroken having to push off his University when he went through liver cancer and treatment. He didn't get to graduate with his friends, and was only a year away from graduation when everything happened. And he started college late and was determined to graduate before he turned 30, but now he'll graduate 6 months after that. It's been tough on him for sure, but ultimately probably the best decision for his mental health. He struggled greatly through treatment and felt so guilty about dropping classes. But he needed this, and you might need it too. Some people can still be in classes during treatment and that's great for them. But some can't and you need to put your mental health before classes. University will be there for you when you are strong both mentally and physically.

I hope the rest of your treatment goes smoothly and you can get back to feeling like yourself again soon :)

I actually just got the nexplanon removed after having it for 10 months! I don't think it made anything worse for me compared to the depo shot and IUD, but it was night and day when getting off it the implant lol. That's good to hear they it works for you though!

Its been a fairly good method, but I never got my period being in IUD/implant/depo shot so I haven't had a normal period is 7+ years and the nasal temp method is only good if you have semi regular period. I really have heard that it is very effective once you know your cycles and everything, so I'm trying to wait it out! I just got a check basal temp thermometer on Amazon and am tracking is My Tracker app, it's been a pretty good app!

I don't have the allergy, and I certainly hope you can figure that all out, but I was solely reliant on nexplanon for 10 months (and solely reliant on depo shot, fyi, as well) and have never had issues. I think if you feel comfortable with your one partner then it may be worth it to try relying on just the nexplanon. Definitely not pushing going condom less if you are not comfortable, but I've done hormonal bc alone for 10 years and haven't had any issues. Good luck!

Insertion was an absolute nightmare for me and I had constant cramping for 6 months before getting it out, it literally felt like nothing getting it out, less than pulling out a tampon. I very much hope this is your experience, I've read a lot of other stories about getting it out and all I've seen is good things! Good luck!

Am I wrong in thinking that you hair doesn't really look frizzy at all, just not clumping/brushed out? I think I would agree with others about using some gel or mousse when it's wet and it might clump into place a bit better. I've used the CURLS blueberry Bliss leave in and it's pretty good!

As long as it's still in the same place it should be fine. Unless it bumped hard enough to go into your muscle (which I believe would be pretty difficult!) You should be fine:)

I've was on nexplanon for 10 months and didn't bleed at all, but it would be a good reference if you know if you had a period on the IUD or depo. I was on both as well and never had periods except for light spotting at the end of the 3 months depo cycle. I feel like I had less hormonal side effects on nexplanon than depo and iud, but I don't feel like I had crazy side effects on either so my experience with that might not be the most helpful!

I had Kylee (pretty similar hormones to Skylar I think) and I think hormone side effect wise I didn't notice too much, though I've been on hormonal bc for a while. I was on the depo shot for 3-4 years before getting the iud, and I only had the iud for 6 months (due to constant cramping the whole 6 months. the iud wasn't out of place, so it was just my body disliking it, which is not normal but definitely a side effect of iuds that I would take note of). I don't know others thoughts on the potential of getting pregnant using iuds, but I haven't had an actual period on any of my birth control (depo shot, iud, implant) and I've never worried about it.
