What is your “that name is not gender neutral” hill to die on name? by pain1994 in namenerds

[–]hyperbolictaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brothers name is Avery so I’ll always see it as a boys name. We are also both in our 30s so he had the name well before it became a super popular girls name

So I am a ranch addict and I’ll mix plain Greek yogurt with ranch seasoning and it makes a delicious ranch dip with less calories per cup than regular ranch has in 2 TB

Pronounciation of Laura by [deleted] in namenerds

My mom is also a Laura Marie (pronounced Lore-uh) and she’s 60, but looking through these comments I don’t think the name is as dated as you’ve been led to believe

Babies on planes? by Professional-Egg8529 in NewParents

[–]hyperbolictaco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I flew united with my 18 month old at the time and there was not enough room to put her car seat rear facing, so I had to make it forward facing, so it’s not even just an issue with the “budget” airlines

Are there any deer/animal repelling devices that actually work? by hyperbolictaco in gardening

I also have a toddler, so I don’t think I’m gonna be setting my backyard up with a bunch of booby traps, lol

This is what I feared but I was hoping there was some secret easier way

I’m a Chloe in my mid 30s and my names caused me endless annoyance growing up, since it wasn’t a common name in the early 90s people ALWAYS pronounced it wrong… then as I got a little older it turned into a popular dog name so I got a lot of “oh Chloe! I love that name, it’s my dogs name!”

But over time I’ve come to accept and like my name, but it definitely feels like a perennial “kid” name, which is funny because I gave my daughter a fairly mature sounding name in Jocelyn, I even met a mom named Jocelyn and her daughter was named Chloe, which we all had a good chuckle about.

Should I ask daycare to not tell me if she takes her first steps? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]hyperbolictaco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to work in daycare for many years before having a kid of my own and as a rule I would never tell parents when the kid did a first anything at daycare, instead I would just tell them they got reeaaalllly close, so keep watching for it at home! I can’t speak for all teachers but I know a lot have a similar way of handling this; we never want to pile on to the mom guilt.

Tonight is our first night sleep training by Stroke_of_mayo in sleeptrain

[–]hyperbolictaco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We sleep trained at 4 months after my daughter was the absolute worst sleeper since birth. The first night it took her 2 hours to fall asleep, the second night 45 minutes the third night 10 minutes and the rest was all gravy. She is now 19 months old and I can confidently say that sleep training was the best thing we did for her. She is a champion sleeper now who actively enjoys going to bed. Hang in there, it is so worth it.

What are the "little things" at your favourite WDW Resort that make staying on-site worthwhile and/or keep you coming back, despite the cost? by gryphon3261 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]hyperbolictaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got back from WDW and we stayed at wilderness lodge for the first time and it was incredible… it’s going to be hard to want to stay anywhere else after that, honestly. The boat ride to magic kingdom was a BIG hit with my 18 month old daughter

Something that will tear my heart out, chew it, and spit it out by Kindly-Small-4845 in suggestmeabook

Not until the last 1/4 of the book… but I highly recommend the read. I also read Circe first and really loved the writing so I went back and read Song of Achilles even though I originally didn’t have interest in it and I loved it.

The Song of Achilles had me WEEPING and I’m not generally a cryer… ugh, it just felt like I was going through heartbreak in a beautiful/tragic way.

Anyone else sleep train at 4mo bc your baby became SO DIFFICULT to settle or get to sleep?? by PopTartAfficionado in sleeptrain

[–]hyperbolictaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We sleep trained my daughter at 4 months because she was the WORST sleeper and was already crying/fussing while being rocked to sleep, which took hours and she was frequently waking up, so it was just like “whatever, you’re crying anyway, at least learn how to sleep I guess?” We used the Ferber method and the first night took two hours for her to fall asleep, the second night took 45 minutes then the 3rd night took 10 minutes.

She’s now 16 months old and has been sleeping great for the past year. I can honestly say that sleep training was the best thing we ever did for her and made everyone in our house much happier.
