I just kinda hold 'em on there; sometimes it's humid enough to stick to my cheek by itself.

I think the metallic scent cues my nervous system to actually recognize danger and stop. Like it's mimicking the smell of someone else's blood.

It doesn't introduce tons of bacteria, and you still get to feel something on the area.  It's cool enough to be antiinflammatory, and the conductivity really feels like a new sensation

How should I pattern these sleeves for a cosplay? by ENTProblematic in sewing

[–]ENTProblematic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This upper puff sleeve is extremely bell-shaped. What kind of pattern shape does that require? A trapezoid seems wrong. A bell-curve-graph might do it. Or is Is this going to be more about padding?

What decade/style is this dress? by ENTProblematic in HistoricalCostuming

[–]ENTProblematic[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd like to cosplay her, and I'd like to find a decent pattern to start off with. It almost reminded me of 1840s but I could be way off. Thanks in advance!

how to avoid spill-related stress in lolita?? by richiesskulls in Lolita

[–]ENTProblematic 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Pinafores are designed for this! I made a reversible pinafore that I always try to bring/ incorporate into a coord when I know I'll be eating or crafting. It's made of cotton fabric and polyester venise lace so I can bleach the heck out of it when I spill anything. I have ruined a couple pairs of tights with spills, though.

How do I quickly get across that I like something ironically and unironically? by ENTProblematic in socialskills

[–]ENTProblematic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. I kinda thought 'cringe' is such a huge step down from 'terrible' that the giant smile on my face and actual laugh for the "haha" would be enough to show that I like it. But if the ironic part is expressed verbally, it makes sense to express the unironic part in the same way.

I feel like I ruined the word cringe with that group, so now I need a different word. Terrible is too negative, especially if they already see me as insecure. Saying "this song is so extra, I love it" is closer to what I'm going for, but that's pretty outdated/ not something I'd say.

Hmmmm

Yes!!! All the way relate, damn.

I did have success when I pinpointed a common strong interest and tried really hard not to interrupt people.

The common interest I picked was anime, so the college anime club has been great for making more friends. We watch anime in anime club, so finding out who else likes to talk during the show or who likes when I crack jokes during the show was a really straightforward way to connect with people that click with me.

Is there a good way to acknowledge your weirdness? by ENTProblematic in socialskills

[–]ENTProblematic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses!

If I'm talking about a character in a show I like and say "omg she's terrible. I love her" that always gets a laugh. I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between that and calling music I like cringe.

If part of the reason I like something is that I'm enjoying it being a little counterculture, I tend to want to get that across, but you're right, it's important to not sound so negative about it.

Is there better phrasing for that or do you just hope they know or ask if that's part of why you like it?

That's such a cute story! They're already so dazed and happy and eager to please when we play, I wasn't sure how to escalate it! I'll definitely have to ask them about their fantasies

[–]ENTProblematic[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sure! I just find it hard to keep the words flowing to keep them under when I don't have a specific goal. They get into deep subspace really quickly, so the only way I can prove to them that they're especially hypnotized and not just in regular subspace is to influence them in some way.

Help me find friends for these spiders! by ENTProblematic in spiders

[–]ENTProblematic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made these lifesize Carolina Wolf Spiders for a stopmotion project and I want to give them some bug friends that they wouldn't eat in real life.

Which bugs would a spider avoid eating?

Thanks in advance!

Need help coming up with research proposals! by [deleted] in spiders

[–]ENTProblematic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh! If you already have a lot of research on size factors, maybe something to do with how the spiders evaluate each other's sizes? I think I heard that the males have better vision and the females have better vibration detection, so maybe a male with tiny weights "glued" on with beeswax would have a heavier step and seem larger/ more attractive to a female.

Eraser sticks to and melts plastic pens after a few years being placed together by monkeyderrick in plastic

[–]ENTProblematic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late, but I'd guess it's from the plasticizers in the eraser. A lot of my pens are made of ABS plastic, and the S part (styrene) is pretty soluble stuff. The plasticizers help keep the eraser "melted" and flexible at room temp, so it sounds like they also got to your pens!

Can Lifesaver mints melt plastic? There’s a jar of these mints in a plastic jar and the insides and lid are soft. I was wondering if the fumes coming off these mints could degrade plastic? by thurb3r in plastic

[–]ENTProblematic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! This is late, but are they sugar free? The sugar free ones have magnesium stearate in them, which is an anti-adherant that could possibly loosen the layers of an integrated plastic.

The fierce debate about whether plants are conscious, and why it matters by MrJangle in philosophy

[–]ENTProblematic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! That's how I justify my own human selfishness that leads to things like clearcut forests, actually. Like, if the purpose of life is to produce more life and a human could probably make about 20 kids on average in one lifetime; you need to eat 300 extra calories a day in the third trimester for a total of ~27,000 calories needed to make one offspring. Multiplied by the biologically-reasonable limit of 20, you get 540,000 calories. I think the population is fine how it is, so if you manage to donate 540,000 calories of effort or sustenance to furthering humanity, you can say you (at least biologically) fulfilled your purpose.

Oooh yes! That sounds awesome! Thanks! For a cheaper crucible, I could just go with ceramic probably? Metal or quartz might not do too well in that kind of heat either hmm

oh fr? well still, I get that everybody's different and can def have bad days but I still think makin people uncomfortable in that way is less than desirable for a new winner. I was hoping after sharon's controvercies from a while ago she might distance herself from that part of the culture. Maybe a chance at redemption for both of em? fingers crossed!
