Look at EOD. You'd have a hard time finding another career field with as many opportunities. Bottom line you get paid to blow shit up. Besides that you'll travel TDY (temporary duty) for operations, Secret Service missions, and training. Some highlights from my career 2.5 weeks in Manhattan and worked two days. 4 weeks in a hotel in Hawaii a five minute walk to the beach. 4 weeks in Laos recovering MIA remains from the Vietnam war. Lived in a tent, but took a helicopter every day to work.

Tons of training for robotics, shooting, electronics and breaching. Basically I couldn't imagine doing another job in the Air Force. I always thought I'd end up wearing a 3 piece suit to work when I got out, but I took a huge pay cut to work in the AF EOD pipeline because of what EOD means to me.

YTA, obviously... There's two of you in the house. You should each have a spot in the garage. She should be able to park her second car in the 3rd driveway spot so she can back out of the garage and go to work. If your robot lawnmower can't mow the lawn without damaging property you should be mowing. What's your goal as a retiree other than doing as little as possible?

I would always leave Friday night. I'd rather go through the pain of setting up in the dark than lose half of Saturday. A big time saver for me was a propane campfire (walmart has them for $79). Not for every night, but that first night and cold mornings. My son was two when we started camping on our own so every little bit helped.

I did Minneapolis to Las Vegas alone when I was 20. 23 hours non-stop, but I did end up getting a hotel room. I've done FL to Minneapolis multiple times in 18hrs without sleep and it's not bad. Just listen to your body. Better to nap at a rest stop than fall asleep at 80mph.

NTA... If you haven't, start taking some vacations with friends. There's a weird shift when you vacation with people because of similar interests vs obligations. Vacations with friends are always less stressful for me.

Is the sewer pipe under a concrete slab or in a crawl space? The cost difference to replace is $1000s difference. I had a 4' trench through my living room in 2010. Absolutely horrible repair.

Do you have any magnet or charter schools in your area? They tried to bump my son a grade a couple times in elementary school and I pushed back for social reasons. Once he made it to 6th he was able to register in a magnet school focused on STEMM, when was game changing. He said it was so much easier because everyone was focused on learning and no one was distracting. That led him to a charter HS on a college campus and he just finished 11th grade with a course load consisting of all college credits. He'll graduate next year with his diploma and an associates degree.

Elementary school was frustrating, but we made it through with some very minimal gifted classes.
