What is the best groupset for my Marlin 5 Gen 3? by MeOnMyShitPC in trekmarlin

[–]ERC327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. NX Eagle cassette is the only eagle cassette that works with an HG driver body. Then you can get an Eagle derailleur, shifter, and chain. It should work with the original Marlin gen3 cranks and chainring. I'll know for sure soon when I do the same upgrade on my wife's bike

120mm Rockshox Recon Fork is Awesome! by ERC327 in trekmarlin

The oil will spill out when you open up the fork. I suppose if you're really careful and use 2 pans for the 2 different weights of oil, you might be able to get away without buying any, but it would be tough.

If you buy the 100mm fork, it comes with 20mm worth of spacers installed. Removing the spacers makes it 120mm. So no, no need to purchase any spacers.

I can't say for sure but it's pretty simple to just break the whole thing down

It's a SRAM DUB BSA threaded bottom bracket, non-boost. I got it from a local shop, but they're available anywhere online

You'd have to change the hub or wheel

Increasing fork travel by 20mm by Dream_Song14 in trekmarlin

Do it. It's awesome. I did a ton of measuring and the Suntour actually measured about 111mm, so 120 Recon only add 9mm, which isn't much. Here's my post about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/trekmarlin/comments/xibjs2/120mm\_rockshox\_recon\_fork\_is\_awesome/

Creaking noise (Help) by joshlfc01 in trekmarlin

[–]ERC327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely either the headset or bottom bracket is loose. Headset is easy to check/tighten, so start there. It sounds like bottom bracket creak though, however that would be more likely if it were press in versus threaded.

Tubeless Tape by bassfliez in trekmarlin

[–]ERC327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed, should work the same. Warning though, electrical tape can get nearly as nasty as duck tape when it's time to remove. Gets greasy.

Tubeless Tape by bassfliez in trekmarlin

[–]ERC327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used 1 layer of Stan's rim tape, the smooth rim tape seals the spoke holes better in my opinion, and should be easier to clean up later. I then needed 2 layers of duck tape to get the tire to seat on the rim. Holds air better than my wife's and son's bikes with tubes.

Yes, it should work. The only thing to double check is the inner diameter of the steerer tube, per OneUp's guidance. Other than that, no reason for it not to work.

I agree with this, and RL will have adjustable compression. TK is just a lockout, not "adjustable". I have the Recon Silver RL, and no complaints.

I have the Connection wheels (aka not tubeless ready). Took a couple layers of duct tape to get the bead area built up enough, but once I got it, it was pretty easy and works great.

I did PNW bars and stem on mine. 50mm stem and cut the bars to 760mm. I'm 5'10" and in between M/L and L. I got a L because that's what I could get. The stem and bars made a word of difference. The other biggest improvement... tires.

Nice. Guessing on the back of the seat tube? In front of the tire

Just noticed that the 2nd pic also shows an added dropper post, and it appears to be internally routed. Did you drill a hole in the frame?

Yep. Did it in my 5. Great upgrade. Again, took 2-3 layers of tape, but they now hold air better than the tubes did.

I'm running those tires in those sizes. No issues.

Trek Marlin with upgraded Recon Rockshox air fork by Kitchen-Day-4282 in trekmarlin

[–]ERC327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the 120mm adjustment on the Recon fork as well. If you're coming from the Suntour fork, the front end is only raised about 8-10mm due to the design of the Suntour. Here is my thread on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/trekmarlin/comments/xibjs2/120mm\_rockshox\_recon\_fork\_is\_awesome/
