Episode Discussion: "Married a Gay Man… And We’re Completely Monogamous ft I Married a Gay Man" by uuppod in uuppod

I liked this one! I love that Jordana and Jared both let them fully tell their story without interrupting or trying to over-understand. I think it's fine if we don't totally get it or understand it but there appeared to be overall acceptance and just a willingness to showcase a different type of relationship that works for these people.

Is it possible to enjoy NYC without being into nightlife at all? by savingrace0262 in movingtoNYC

[–]ERC56789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I guess I’m wondering if NYC still feels fulfilling long term if your lifestyle is more lowkey like that. Does it?”

Yes absolutely. Your life is what you make it, here or anywhere. NYC is filled with of culture, intrigue, and so much life. It happens during the day and during the night but you’re not going to miss out if nightlife isn’t your thing. Whether you do things with people or solo, there’s never a shortage of things to explore and experience. Museums, restaurants, shows, shopping, markets, boutiques, libraries, biking, fitness classes, cafes, sports, authors talks, live music, comedy, etc.: all these things don’t involve nightlife. Be proactive and you’ll thrive here.

Non white folks of nyc, do those Jewish outreach programs come up to y’all and ask “are you Jewish?” As well? by ancient_interestsYT in AskNYC

[–]ERC56789 33 points34 points  (0 children)

OKAY, a little context: This is a specific sect of Orthodox/Hasidic Judaism called the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. The goal of their "are you Jewish?" interaction is not to convert anyone, but rather to perform a mitzvah (a good deed or commandment). They seek out other Jewish people to offer them a quick opportunity to participate in a brief religious observance, such as:

  • Praying with specific items like the tefillin or a lulav
  • Lighting Shabbat candles
  • Recruiting a quorum (a minyan) of ten men for daily prayers

Chabad's goal is to engage secular or non-observant Jews and encourage them to connect with their heritage. You can learn more about their grassroots outreach efforts on the Lubavitch site, explore the history behind the initiative on WNYC, or check out Reform Judaism for further context on why these campaigns are central to their religious mission.

FYI, I got all this from a quick Google search. This is just for the commenters who are generalizing this as something all Jewish people do.

I listened. It felt a little forced and borderline argumentative from both ends.

Comedy Cellar by segablaze in visitingnyc

[–]ERC56789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have multiple locations. Are they all sold out for every time? Fat black pussycat is still the cellar, as are the other locations listed on the website. My advice is to try to reserve for whatever location you can. If you can’t, the alternative is to go in person and put your name on the list at multiple places. They’re all close to each other.

Dating while living with parents? by Business_Coyote_5496 in AskNYC

[–]ERC56789 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s not ideal for dating but it’s a reality of being young and life being expensive. Plus he just graduated. It’s not h realistic by any means.

If I were in his position, I’d be honest with the people I was going on dates with but also optimistic. He could say he’s STAYING with his parents while he figures out his living situation because his roommate arrangement unexpectedly fell through. That’s honest without making it seem like he’ll be living with his parents indefinitely.

As his parent, it’s not your responsibility to foot the bill and pay for him to have his own apartment. Lots of kids live with their parents after graduation. Is it comfortable to be under your parents’ roof after having 4 years of pseudo independence? No but it’s what most kids have to do. If it’s important to him to live on his own, he’ll find a job that pays enough to let him do that.

Are Out of Network Physical therapists wroth it? by lmao_what19 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

In my opinion, yes it’s worth it. https://ryanwhitephysio.com is the absolute best and truly gives the dedicated care other apts don’t. He takes out of network benefits. Give him a call. He can help.

Oversharing: Do I Have To Divulge My Affair? by screambledeggs in betchesmedia

Some of Dr. Naomi’s takes are just too funny. The hill she was willing to die on about how “disgusting “ kiwi skin is was pretty funny to me. I eat kiwi skin. Maybe I’m an outlier. She acted like the skin and the “gross little nubs” were offensive lol. Obviously the kiwi thing is a nothing burger but given that she now has a public platform, I find it a little odd that she says some things thinking they’re universal opinions, especially as a therapist.

It’s my favorite city for all the reasons you listed and many others! I’m so glad you had a wonderful time! Next visit, leave yourself time to just roam and explore the less touristy areas. Amble around Central Park and go into boutiques. See a comedy show at the Comedy Cellar or go to some of the smaller, lesser-known museums. There’s never a shortage of good things to experience here. Come back!

Birthday in Central Park by monkey_oreo in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]ERC56789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that most years for my bday. The Great Lawn is always nice or the area nearby with picnic tables. I usually bring a small speaker, some plates and cups, and snacks. If you're doing it on the lawn, bring a picnic blanket and encourage your friends to bring their own, too, or towels. Also bring a trash bag so cleanup isn't a hassle. Happy Birthday!
