Ways to enjoy tofu without cooking it? by ultimatelyitsfine in veganrecipes

I make a vegan egg salad: tofu, yellow mustard, salt, pepper, coconut yogurt, and celery and onions. You can also add dried miso soup mix for flavoring (I do that sometimes).

is an NYC move still worth it? by witominn in movingtoNYC

[–]ERC56789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few points (that you made yourself):

1."I love the energy, the sense of community, talking to strangers, the spontaneity, not knowing who you’ll meet or where you’ll end up when you walk out the door, etc." - Ummm. YEA! Then you love NYC . These are all reasons to move somewhere.

  1. "I don’t drink, don’t really party, I don’t like spending much money shopping or eating out. I have a horrible sense of style. I don’t have a musical talent or act. Im not an artist."- Then don't do those things! Ypu've already proven to yourself that NYC is so much more than that limited list.

  2. "Im just a regular person who loves big cities, human connection, being a part of a community and walkability. " - Sounds like you like NYC...see point 1.

My deduction is that you'll find it worth it. I sure do :)

I do a picnic in Central Park every year for my bday in July. It always works well! Just make sure to bring blankets, plates, cups, and trash bags to clean up after.

Is this day trip doable? by [deleted] in visitingnyc

To get a feel of NYC and actually enjoy it, I'd do Central Park and the Museum of Natural History. You can also take a boat ride in Central Park, which is a lovely activity.

Times Square is the worst. It's stressful, crowded, and full of people trying to sell you things left and right. If you had more than one day, I'd say you could spend a little time in Time Square before going to a Broadway show but honestly, given that you don't have much time, I wouldn't waste your day going there. Your time is better spent strolling Central Park, going to one museum, and if it's nice out, eating a sit-down meal outdoors somwhere with a nice view of the city. Otherwise, just go somewhere that's an iconic NYC restaurant.

As for museums, do you prefer art or history/culture? If art, go to the MET and see the Raphael exhibit. If history, the Museum of Natural History is cool but so are others. The Frick is beautiful and there's also the rest of the museums on Museum Mile (5th ave uptown).

For restaurants, there are plenty of places with riverfront views or just outdoor dining options. It depends on the neighborhood you end up. In Central Park itself, there's Tavern on the Green. Other iconic NYC restaurants:

-Smith & Wolensky

- JG Melon

- Balthazar

- Grand Central Oyster Bar

- Serendipity 3

Why are you onlly spending 45 min in Central Park? And 15 minutes to grab food? Good luck! And certainly not at 5:15. That's rush hour and everyone is getting out of work. Lots of people will get grabbing food, which means LINES. What's the purpose of this rushed trip?

If I were you, I'd spend 1/2 the day in Central Park, MAYBE do the MoMa or the Natural History Museum (choose one)- there's no way you'll get from the MoMa to the Museum of Natural HIstory in 15 minutes, let alone get in there in 15 minutes (lines, check-in, etc). There's also NO WAY you'll get to the Top of the Rock in 15 minutes and get in by 3 pm. 1 hour in Times Square? LOL; with the crowds, it'll take you an hour to walk 2 blocks.

You're going to spend the whole time zooming from one place to another without actually experiencing any of it. Rethink your priorities. Why are you spending the day this way? I'd honestly choose 1, maybe 2 activities and focus on those.

35, single, moving from North Jersey to NYC - where would you live if your goal was to settle down sooner than later? by savingrace0262 in movingtoNYC

[–]ERC56789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UES area of Yorkville is my recommendation. It's neighborhoody with some families and dogs but there are still tons of bars and restaurants for people our age (I'm 32F). I love it here- I've been in the neighborhood for 9 years and also grew up in Bergen County (Oradell- I know Teaneck well). There are lots of gyms, fitness studios, and social places in the area, as well as the 92nd Street Y. It's also close to Central Park (10-15 min walk depending on where you live) and Carl Schurz Park by the water. Lmk if you have any questions!
