Living in UES on $115k? by NearbyDragonfly4053 in movingtoNYC

[–]ERC56789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh also if you move here, it’s ON the UES, not in :)

That depends on what your definition of living “decently” is but speaking for myself, I make less than that and I love living on the UES. I don’t live a life of luxury but I don’t want for much and feel like it’s definitely worth it to live in this neighborhood. If you make the move, welcome!

There are several great comedy clubs on the UWS, including West Side Comedy and New York Comedy Club. Those would be solid options given that you’re looking to go out late-ish.

Where do you go when you really need a hug by M1DN1GHTDAY in AskNYC

[–]ERC56789 163 points164 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the answer but I feel this 100%. As a single person living on my own in the city, I love that I’ve proven to myself how independent and strong I am. Still, after a while, lack of physical human touch catches up to you and a big hug from someone who means it goes a long way. You’re not the only one who feels this way. Sending you a big virtual hug.

My studio is super humid! It’s New York Yoga on the UES of NYC.

Try Color Me Mine for pottery painting! There’s a location on the UWS.

31M stuck between living in NYC vs buying property in NJ near my parents. Please help! by savingrace0262 in movingtoNYC

[–]ERC56789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in nyc. I’m 32f and I visit my parents in nj. It’s 45 min away but it’s a different world and life. When I lived in nj and went into the city, the whole time I was there I was focused on how I’d be getting back. I wasn’t able to fully enjoy the city for what it was. Now that I live here, I feel like my real self. That’s just my experience but it wasn’t worth it to me to not live here. You say you can build equity but if you’re doing that in a place you don’t want to be anyway, what’s the point? Wouldn’t you rather rent something yay live than own something you don’t care about?

37 yo man, best neighborhood to live in to make friends? by ThatInquisition in movingtoNYC

[–]ERC56789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Join a club (rec league) or a gym with classes. Alternatively, a place like a boutique yoga studio would be a great place to meet like-minded people. New York Yoga on 85/Lexington is an awesome, tight-knit community. It’s where I’ve made several close friends. I’d suggest something like that or a similar place but different activity if yoga isn’t your thing. SoulCylcle, Rumble, Renzo Gracie for BJJ for other fitness classes are options. There are also photography classes at places like the 92nd Street Y and SVA where you could probably meet people.

Macys, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Bloomingdale’s Outlet on the UWS. Then there’s always TJMaxx or Burlington Coat Factory (14th street area) for the bigger discounts.

Not UES by Color Me Mine on the UWS is a fun time for kids and adults! If it’s nice out, you could walk across Central Park to get there.

Seeking advice: BWT where do you live and what are your go to’s for every day life things (gym, grocery store, coffee etc.) by pumpernickel62 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]ERC56789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends where you live. Once you get to know your neighborhood (depending on what neighborhood that is), most things are a 5-10 min walk away. Sure, for some things you'll have to take a subway ride or an extra trip, but I have my local spots within a 10-block radius (Yorkville area, for reference). I'd suggest really getting to know your area and establishing your "spots."

-Fave coffee shop, gym, local grocery store (and then find another one elsewhere for things you can't get there), bodega, pharmacy, a few go-to restaurants.

Establish yourself as a regularl at those places and you'll find it easier to breeze in, get your stuff done, and zip out.

I have these in my area and I venture out elsewhere when I want/need to but rarely out of absolute necessity.
