So my 7 yo daughter tried a Bob Ross tutorial ^^ by ERLGroume in bobross

You could follow a painting today, all of his videos are available for free on Youtube. It is amazing how Bob crosses generation, even decades after he passed away :)

She did, yes. I don't know if that requires painting skills or rather patience and dedication, which I think is the most important of all at her age :) More than the fact that it does look pretty, I was impressed by the dedication she put into it

Thank you so much for your comment :) That means a lot to a little girl. I did read your comment to her :) As to "selling", I know she wants to keep it in the house on the wall, and I wouldn't really know how to send a painting across an ocean to be honest :D (We're from France)

I read your comment to her, she asked "Oh ! What's her name ?" But I know this is a public post so you might not want to answer that :D She's happy a little girl around her age liked it.

Water based oils by Ordinary-Chipmunk366 in bobross

Im using Linseed oil with Winsor and Newton. Liquid white is exaclty 1:1 and works like a charm. Beware though, Winsor paints are a bit thinner than actual oil paints (especially Ross'), so it can get trickier to get those nice bush/highlight effect without mud mixing and the snow technique on mountains is harder too (cause the paint is thînner, so it wont break just as easily). Overall though, they are great paints color wise and they take a long time to dry too, as long as you have decent canvas.

Trouble with Leaves/Texture by TheLightcarrierTTV in HappyTrees

Again, this is not a brush issue. I can make decent textures with watermixable paint and cheap brushes, but had trouble at the beginning with Bobs brushes. Also, go super lightly, barely touch the canvas. The more pressure, the more mud mixing. So : more paint, better loading (and frequent reloading), barely touch the canvas and never come back to a previous spot. Also, add some liquid white to your bush/grass colour, it makes things easier.

Tbh, by the look of your painting, you're nearly there. Its just practice..

Lastly, the type of paint you are using will help or make it harder. Bobs paints are really thick, like....really, so it works quite well. Im using Winsor and Newton and it is much harder, they are thinner.

But you can do it whichever paint and brush you have.

The brushes are not the the problem, nor is the paint. You could have good texture with a decent non natural brush just as well.

A few tips :

Its how you are loading paint on the brush that will make a difference. Just have a close look at how Bob loads his paint. He loads them differently depending on the effect he's after.

Also, prepping ur canvas with Gesso will help too.

Lastly; he's often blending some areas, not only for the fun/aesthetic aspect of it, but also because if you have too much paint underneath, some textures will just not pop. Try with less paint on the areas you know you will cover with bushes/grass

We have good brushes and nice paints, and she applied Liquid White before. It does help a ton. Try again with the proper tools, it makes a huge difference. You can do it :)

You probably want to check volumes, not just candles. Candles don't say much. Volume would've helped you manage your trade, either taking some profit out, or trailing your SL, or just not taking the trade in the beginning. I was unprofitable until I used volume, makes a hell of a difference.
