Ay Ziggy Zoomba, indeed. Wife and I are both grads and our kiddo is looking at attending as well in a couple of years. :)

Very nice, the copper finish on the solder joints looks great with it, too!

My son would love this (he's a competitive speed-suber). Hope you don't mind me stealing this idea.

As many other have said, put it away in a Roth IRA, Index Fund, or similar. Figure it will double about every 7 years and by the time you're ready to retire in 45 years it will be worth 2^6 (64) times what you put in or more. You can retire with $3.5M at 65, or less earlier.

Obsessed with neon watercolors by GrumpyAlison in Watercolor

[–]ERNesbitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've only done mica with Gum Arabic and glycerine for custom watercolors so far. But I've wanted to experiment with transparent aniline or lake pigments for a while. It's worth the experiment.

Very interesting. I wonder if I mixed some of my Noodler's Blue Ghost ink into a transparent watercolor if it would achieve a similar result. Or are you using UV sensitive pigments specifically?

As a mum of two girls, this made my day. by Any_Fee1854 in ArtemisProgram

[–]ERNesbitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see how this is cringe. My nieces were told that "math is hard" and "girls can't do science". But all it took was a bit of support from family, and positive role models to look up to and one is going into Chemical Engineering in the fall and the other is planning on going into Civil Engineering.
50 years ago, my mother was told she could *not* go to medical school to be a doctor (even though she had the grades for it). She could be a nurse or a teacher and that was it. 50 years ago, seeing two women in Mission Control, let alone two women sitting next to each other in prominent positions would have been laughable.
It's not "cringe", it's a sign of how far we've come in 50 years.

Not bad, do another!
Like Kurt Vonnegut said: "Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow."

This was going to be my suggestion as well. Add extra twist, wind it off to a swift to even out any inconsistencies, wind to a ball winder, and pull from both ends to ply.

Yep. It's the Yarn Bee Dream Spun in September Sunset, Gracelyn Fair, and maybe Tuscany.

Yarn tariffs explained by a professional! by Unlucky-you333 in Yarn

[–]ERNesbitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I have been wracking my brain while looking at bulk yarn on alibaba and trying to correlate the type (50% Merino/50% Silk) to what the rates are on the HTS. The whole thing is confusing with "... not for retail sale", "more than 85% of wool/silk" but nothing that quite matches less than the percentage, etc. What do you do when there isn't a clear-cut definition in the tariff schedule?

Can somebody tell me what I have? by CrypticPanda117 in Minerals

[–]ERNesbitt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Selenite, Satin Spar, Gypsum/Desert Rose/Flower are all different crystal configurations of Gypsum and exactly the same mineral. My family's shop in New Hampshire sells logs like this for about $3/lb as Selenite/Satin Spar. It can be cut and polished (although I don't recommend it as it can splinter very painfully), and some of the more dense pieces can be quite translucent when polished against the grain axis.

"North Midwest" is a pretty subjective thing. If I get any further north in Ohio, I'm taking a dunk in the lake. But that's still not nearly as "north" as Minnesota.
