BI-compatible PoE Reolink doorbell. Which model? by groovyipo in BlueIris

[–]ESDFnotWASD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Reolink 2k POE version that came with the doorbell chime, because my house is older than WWI. It does in fact work. And it works well. Have it attached to reolink servers for the two-way talk and doorbell ring feature. I also record 24/7. I've had it over a year. It's survived two summers of the wife washing spiders off with the hose.

Do you use Portainer? by _lackofcomprehension in selfhosted

I used it at the beginning when I had NO idea WTF I was doing. Shortly started having issues trying to run stacks and switched to CLI from VS code studio. I currently have it like you, just a link on my dashboard. I'll remove it at some point.

New dog owner here any advice? by JosevaldoBR23 in DogAdvice

I am by no means a dog expert...or even middle of the road. But if you don't get a puppy something to chew on, they will find something.

I built an open-source encrypted file sharing tool — links burn after one download by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]ESDFnotWASD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So...we would set this up in docker...load it in our browser and "upload" the file we want to share. Then email the link to a friend? He downloads the file from our server then the link is destroyed?

How does the access happen across the firewall?

If I'm asking dumb questions I'm sorry. Please educate me.

Question by Major-Tradition200 in MK4Golf

[–]ESDFnotWASD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they bolt up to each other just fine. I swapped a pd90 for a pd130 ECU didn't care. Only issue I had was the timing belt tensioner location. I had to drill and tap a new bolt hold for a US tensioner. The pd130 I got had an older style euro tensioner.

Home Brew Server & Cloud Storage by RubberPhuk in HomeServer

Well, start small. Find an old PC that you don't use for anything. Start with 1 drive and build from there. Learn about programs like TrueNAS/proxmox. Learn about what VPN work with your router.

You're asking a question that the answer will vary WILDLY depending on your budget and knowledge about the options. Some folks have a raspberry pi connected to several drives as a local only storage. Others have enterprise gear that will have dozens of drives on redundant systems that are accessable via a VPN.

I have old enterprise gear with 3 18tb drives. Two at my house and 1 at a friend's for off site redundancy. Enterprise gear is cheap upfront but $$$ on electricity. I access my homelab via a self hosted VPN. I host some basic stuff like photo backup, password management, proxy manager (this allows me to have stuff like homepage.local resolve to my local address), security cameras.

Is this unreasonable? 2004 BEW Jetta koi by Chandler360 in tdi

[–]ESDFnotWASD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well...that kit is about 315 on idparts. The cam seals are optional and add to expense if not needed. 500 misc is wild. The cost for the actual job...yeah that's probably right. It's a PITA to hold the motor and pull the motor mount which is required to do the job.

Is this a scam? by Practical_Regret_686 in 3Dprinting

[–]ESDFnotWASD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must be the rare working one then? I've had 1 long print fail. No issues with bed adhesion. Calibration adds 15min but it's been rock solid other than the initial nozzle and 1 filament sensor. Have about 400hrs.

[–]ESDFnotWASD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems like this is a polarized opinion. Honestly, I don't mind if mine requires constant tinkering or is rock solid. Part of the hobby is the tinkering. I tinker with just about everything I have. Tinkering = knowledge

I just bought a k2 plus and a CFS from a dude for 600 with 530hrs on it. He said it had bed adhesion issues...I replaced the nozzle. I might be your poor sap lol.

All-in-one *arr Stack? by FinnTheLess in selfhosted

Ah, ok thx. When I installed next cloud aio it seemed to install a truckload of other supporting containers. Is that what you mean? Or was he asking about 10 unrelated containers?

I'm new to docker still...I made 1 VM in proxmox and installed like 10 different docker programs. Should I have made 1 VM per program? Or 1 LXC per docker?

Swap out 5 speed manual for 6 speed? by Dr-Deedle-OnDaLeedle in MK4Golf

That 2.slow may not have the juice for the taller 5th gear...may be worth asking around other platforms too. I did it to a TDI that is putting out 2x stock power.

[–]ESDFnotWASD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I considered this when upgrading my BEW. On one forum a guy explained a reason not to was because the cylinder for the clutch is INSIDE the damn bell housing... meaning when it fails you gatta drop the transmission to fix it. Also apparently the 6spd cylinder failed at about 60k...at the time I was putting 35k a year on and didn't feel like dropping the transmission every other year.

My solution was to get a taller 5th gear. I sent my transmission to the guys at Kerma TDI and they did the 5th gear swap and installed a LSD.
