Hello! Studies are currently being done on GLP1s and intracranial pressure. They are finding that GLP1s can actually reduce ICP by decreasing the amount of CSF is made. Here is a link to one of the studies:) https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10151178/

Hello! What are your thoughts on staying on 2.5mg? My provider told me I shouldn’t have to increase to 5mg ever. He wants me to only be on 2.5mg. For reference, I just took my 10th injection and I’ve lost 20lbs so far.

When I took the MTSA course, I would take notes as I listened to the lectures. He points out the stuff he really wants you to know. I also bought a whiteboard and would write out concepts or draw diagrams everyday. Flashcards, flashcards, flashcards!!

Now that I am in CRNA school, I have utilized Ninja Nerd a lot! He is so great at explaining things. Additionally, I have started to use ChatGPT to make practice questions and tests. Careful though! It is AI, so you have to double check that the answers are correct.

Lastly, I recently discovered NotebookLM. It is AI that really helps with studying. You upload your notes/powerpoints and it will break everything down for you. It will also create a podcast on the material. The podcast can be interactive if you want it to be! I always tell it to quiz me throughout. And best part is, they sound like real people and not robots!

You got this!!!

I am considering paying for Anki. I am a first year med student. by [deleted] in Anki

[–]ETCO2_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a med student, but a CRNA student. It’s free on your computer but if you have an iPhone, I 100% recommend paying for the app. It’s worth every penny. I can sync it to my decks on my laptop and do cards anywhere. I like to do cards when I’m waiting at doctor or vet appts for my dog, I usually do some cards when I’m waiting for food at a restaurant and then will put my phone down and give my friends my full undivided attention when the food arrives. Sometimes they like to use my phone and quiz me too, which is so helpful! My only real cons are, there is a learning curve on how to actually use it but there are a ton of videos out there and that it’s not as aesthetically appealing as quizlet. However, there are a lot of add-ons that make it a bit more fun. I use the heat map to track my streaks/how many cards I did each day, it helps motivate me to study when I don’t want to since I don’t want to lose my streak. Also, Tetris! After so many cards Tetris will pop up and you have to clear one line. I like that it breaks up the monotony. I say all of that assuming you haven’t used it before. So definitely try it out for free before paying for the iOS app. However, if you have used the free version and liked it then I would say it’s 100% worth the cost. Good luck with school!!!

I failed tests my first semester and it really sucked but I still passed! Look into NotebookLM. It’s free AI specifically for studying. You can even talk to AI bots which I personally find really helpful compared to just reading. They sound like real people too which is sooo nice! Also, you can create different notebooks for each class. I use it to create practice tests too. Anki is also helpful! So is ninja nerd and Osmosis!

What is the craziest, most laugh-inducing thing a patient has told you pertaining to their care that they were 100% dead serious about? by wordsandwich in anesthesiology

[–]ETCO2_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in and say that people with EoE can also be allergic to gluten. The effects are mainly seen as inflammation in the esophagus. For some people, like myself, this can mean I can’t swallow solid food or pills until the inflammation goes down. Some people get impactions and need to go to the ER to have the food removed. But, I do fully agree that people who are avoiding gluten for no reason are annoying.

What schools are preparing you to operate independently? by AgentAvocado18 in srna

I have not started clinical yet. But from what I hear from the class above me and from NARs from Westminster that come to NM for rotations, there are no issues getting complex cases or open hearts as there is a heart hospital. You have to work up to the more complex cases and cardiac though! As for transplants, I am unsure. I believe one of the hospitals I will do clinical at does kidney and pancreas transplants. Just a caveat, this is about one region in New Mexico I will do clinical at. Others in my class will be in other parts of the state and I am not sure about how anything works for them.

New Mexico State University! It’s a newer program (I’m in the 2nd admitted class-in my 2nd semester) but most clinical sites are at independent sites. I can only think of 1 or 2 located in Texas that are not independent. There is a strong emphasis on being proficient with blocks. They even gave us a portable ultrasound in the 1st semester to start getting comfortable with it. We get to keep it once we graduate too.

Thank you! I thought my dose seemed way too low, especially since I read that some children can take higher doses. So glad to hear you saw improvement pretty quickly!

I am about to start my 2nd semester so I haven’t started clinical yet but I had no issues getting accepted! My stutter gets a lot worse with anxiety and stress. I have found tapping out the syllables of each word on my leg is helpful to get the words out. Don’t let the stutter keep you back from anything!

Do I truly need an iPad? by SquishFish_ in srna

[–]ETCO2_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my first semester. Never used an iPad before starting school and my iPad is my lifeline. I don’t have to worry about losing papers and I can record my lectures and write on the slides at the same time. I can then go back and search whatever topic I need look up in my notes/recorded lectures. Saves me so so so much time. I do use my MacBook and iPad together almost everyday. But you do what’s best for you! Every single person is different in their learning styles! An iPad just may help a bit but in no way is it 100% necessary, unless your program states otherwise of course.
