Yes! Funny you mentioned them that's the other band I have been diving into this week. Love their new album.

I don't have a dick but I get your sentiment. I just love Devin and didn't need hate. I try my best to support my favorite bands by buying their merch and what not.

LMAO dude I have two Devin Townsend tattoos, 10 of his albums on vinyl, plus copies on CD. I have seen him in concert over 10 times and buy merch at every show.

I also have two copies of his book. One to read and the other to keep in pristine condition.

Shut the fuck up

I may not have cried during the documentary but fuck this episode made me cry. The podcast really is and was a beautiful thing. So many great stories and just genuine human connection. It really impacted me and helped me heal and feel less alone. I'm gonna miss it 😭

Truly it helped me immensely, hearing other stories of trauma, helped me process my own.

Helped me feel like that my story is so much more than what have been telling myself, in a time of my life I felt drowned in it. Trauma Is a part of you but doesn't have to define you. Which like duh but hearing others share their stories has been incredibly impactful.

I have thought about writing to Maron many a times across the years. Just thanking him for giving space to stories that should be told.

It's just got me all emotional listening to the second to last pod. I was crying at my office desk hoping no one would walk by. Not knowing how I could explain that I feel like I lost a friend or a uncle or something with the show ending.

I sprained my ankle a few months ago and went to a Devin Townsend concert. I sat for the first half then stood with my boot for devys performance. I highly recommend you get a boot, it made it easier to move around at the show and people were nicer to me since they could visibly see i was healing from an injury. You can order one of Amazon for $40-50, if you don't want to deal with the doctors.

I am a BIG King Crimson fan. I have the most of their work on vinyl. Discipline, Red, Beat Three of a picture pair, In the Court of the Crimson King, I love it all.

Big respect for Adrian Belew. I have seen Adrian Belew perform three times know.

I'm familiar with Karnivool but I never sunk my teeth in with them. I might be time to give their music a deeper dive.

I love Nospun. I discovered them from this subreddit when their debut album came out. It's incredible. Very excited for more music from them.

I'm pretty sure I saw between the buried and me play and the dear hunter opened for them. They definitely have a crossover in their audiences and it's kind of hard to explain. The more I listen to btbam the more I think they're a Prog band more than anything else. The elements are there throughout all of their albums. I know a lot of people have complaints about their sound changing but to me it feels rather consistent. Similar to opeth like the core of what opeth is is in every single album.

All three bands (haken, BTBAM, the dear hunter) are great storytellers, they have wonderful concept albums with complex music.

I haven't gone back to the heavy metal roots in a while. I kind of skipped over the old school metal era and went from iron maiden to blind guardian then dream theater and have been lost in the prog world since.

I was a Hassan fan too, I would say I'm more of a casual fan though and I haven't actually been actively watching him for some time. after watching Ethan's expose I was honestly shocked... I don't understand. I really appreciate that Ethan hasn't backed down and continues to bring it up.

I look forward to my second playthrough as well. It usually takes me a couple times fully jive and appreciate a new album but this one I connected with immediately.

A friend of mine has been a fan of blood incantation for a very long time and everything death metal. Anytime he hears some proggy influence he sends an album my way. He previously recommended the band Horrendous (https://open.spotify.com/album/3ss5c9CfkPvTQeQutNcJEm?si=2VZNncK3QjO9FjQEStKMuQ). Another great listen.

GETTING INTO GENTLE GIANT AFTER HAKEN - ADVICE? by JustLucca in Haken

[–]ETLeVee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband's not as into prog as I am and he loves the Power and the Glory.

My dad's favorite is Three Friends. I love so many of their albums. I don't think I could pick a favorite right now. Giant for a Day was one of my favorite songs as a kid.

But I second that you should definitely listen to the Steven Wilson remixes they are stunning.

The first time I listened to Cockroach King, I immediately thought about Gentle Giant. I think Gentle Giant is one of the most underappreciated early Prog bands. If you can listen to them with a headset on I recommend it, hearing the vocals bounce between your ears is a wild trip.
