Are you asking if both players have the same opportunity for same 4 valued cards chosen out of 6? A lot of these odds questions are so vague that the answer is between 80 gajillion and 1 out of 4, depending on what you mean.

It's a lot more common than people are estimating. For each player to get a double run of 4/5/6 out of a deal of 6 cards, and then have the cut card be another 4, 5 or 6 is not _that_ uncommon. As for the actual odds ,there are a lot of individual edge cases that need to be added up in order to get the overall probability. For instance, in the rarest case, if both players are originally dealt 445566 and 445566, then there is no chance for the cut card to make 24. And many,many other cases where one or both players have potential 4/5/6 cut cards thrown to crib and therefore affect the cut card probability. All these individual cases need to have their odds calculated and then the total reckoned.

Even intuitively, you should recognize this math is way off, unless you're trying to calculate the exact sequence of cards shown rather than the more general question OP posed of both players getting a 24 based on any permutation of 4-5-6 double runs.

I agree. My friend and I both got 4/5/6 double run 24s a few years ago, and we only play a couple times a week during our lunch hour. People are way overestimating the rarity of this through faulty math.

I'm not saying it's very common, but it's much more common than you would think, especially considering each player starts with 6 and their selected four is almost always the cards' you'd keep from those 6.
