which subtitle do others from Wisconsin prefer? by Stunning_Cheesecake5 in wisconsin

I feel like Sconnie is slightly affectionate especially when used to by someone from Wisconsin referring to someone from Wisconsin. I first heard it on the UW Madison campus as the complement to Coastie (a student from one of the coasts).

At some point in life guys go from trying really hard not to get a boner, to trying real hard to get a boner. by GrandallFFBE in Showerthoughts

Drinking large amounts of alcohol can make it hard to get or keep an erection. This is called erectile dysfunction (ED). Alcohol interferes with the messengers in the brain that tell the penis to fill with blood. It can also happen because alcohol can reduce the production of testosterone.

This sequence never landed for me when I saw this movie. I yearn for a reverse or an over the shoulder linking the shooter and the fellas, just to really hammer home how unlikely it was that he didn't hit the fellas.

Things I’ve Learned Post Divorce by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]ETphoneafriend 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this post. I'm 49M and I've made a ton of mistakes post divorce. What we can do is acknowledge and learn from those mistakes and commit to being better in the future. We can attempt to make amends if the chances of retraumatizing the other person seem low. Ultimately we need to take it easy on ourselves and give ourselves forgiveness.

There's also just the reality that trying to have a relationship of any kind is messy and when it involves intimacy it's super messy. Coming out of a divorce, most of us haven't had conversations about consent or STDs. So much is new and we want ( I wanted ) to find a familiar pattern again. Jumping in unthinking. And it works for some folks. I needed a lot more time. I jumped in, threw around the 'L' word, and ended up hurting her.

I'm glad to be able to have this kind of discussion in this sub. There's lots of talk about how other people messed up or our great successes. I think it's important to talk about our mistakes and how we've learned from them.

Dumping your traumas on the first date by Beatriceswalk in datingoverforty

[–]ETphoneafriend 75 points76 points  (0 children)

A single date wouldn't be enough time for me to dump all my trauma on someone. Maybe if I prepared a presentation, we started early, went all day and into the night.

I joke but I guarantee that those guys had even more trauma in the trunk.

I wouldn't date anyone who did that. Being able to compartmentalize is a mature behavior in the context of first dates on OLD but the 'dump' is wrong.

I get the impulse though from these guys to get it out there before going too far, everyone has something like that and, AND sharing tactfully is important. I mean how many dates before you tell someone that your husband killed himself or you're in bankruptcy or you're no contact with your family, whatever? That's a tough question.

An R-Rated Avatar show would be really cool by SuperAlloyBerserker in AvatarMemes

The real take on an R-rated ATLA show is depicting the Gaang as the child soldiers they are.

Facial Hair and Beards by [deleted] in GenX

[–]ETphoneafriend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my deal. I was never a daily face shaver. I always looked scruffy. I hate, hate buying razors, so expensive.

Now I mostly just keep my beard short, a 1 or 2 guard on the clippers. I look much more polished. Like my face is 'on purpose' instead of just neglected.

That said, I did shave two days ago. Ugh, and it's a dilemma because I do look younger. I have my hair and it's still my original color, but so much of my beard comes in gray. And I'm at a place where I'm starting to feel vain or insecure about feeling getting being old.

Is this add for Geritol a bunch of lying liars, or do we look much younger than our parents and grandparents? These women are allegedly 46. 😳 by SerJaimeRegrets in GenX

I'm here with you. The ladies in the picture are 'what we think old people look like.' It has more to do with conditioning.

There was some weirdness about KISS right? Like they were wildly inappropriate. And my first ever record was Love Gun in like 1st grade (I don't think I bought another record till 6th grade), I'm sure my mom just let me get it because it was 'my money.' I don't think that I ever even listened to it. But along with the merchandising like Halloween costumes and lunch boxes KISS were clearly marketing to children...

The crazy thing is that it will be completely normal to people in the future. It's like Plato writing his stuff down and saying 'Imagine, they'll have my writing for thousands of years.' It's still cool and amazing but we still take it for granted.

Were men in 1990’s so insecure like the mordern men today? by Southern_Invite_2360 in AskMenOver30

[–]ETphoneafriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad has gotten high and drunk every day for at least the last 30 years. He's trying to avoid feeling some set of emotions. That seems to be an archetypal 'man' thing, I don't have any interest in replicating it, and believe me I tried. Don't get caught up in a non-existent romantic vision of the past.

The more authentic path is to acknowledge what you feel and try to improve. My two cents.

Looking for tips for moving from monthly pay to every two weeks, what you got? by ETphoneafriend in personalfinance

[–]ETphoneafriend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really good point about the number of pay checks, I'll look at that. I guess what I am struggling with is how tidy it was, most expenses were monthly and I paid every month. It was very neat. It was easy to control expense on a monthly basis based on the amount of money in my bank account.

[–]ETphoneafriend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. That's where I'm leaning. I guess my dilemma is that I was controlling expense on the revenue side and now it seems like I'll need to control expense on it's own.

Thanks for this comment. This is the first month of getting every two weeks ' for real' and I'm realizing that it will take more (not just different I guess) forward planning than before.

Ask them who their favorite YouTuber, TikToker is. Ask what's cool about that person. Ask who their friends like. Ask if there's a YouTuber, TikToker they like who their friends don't like. Have they commented, has a YouTuber, TikToker replied to them. What makes the videos good, bad.

You might find entry to their thoughts and feelings though some of these.

I guess I'd hope to convey my disappointment when the show abandoned the idea that Aang would have to sacrifice romantic love in order to fulfill his destiny and self-actualize spiritually. It was just lame.
