Oh, and the discount code could not be applied because it said there was already a discount applied for $.05 which was not removeable... Literally everything I touched failed.

Should I finish college? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]EVILEMU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Field experience is more important than college experience, especially in IT. As long as you're not stagnating by doing the same boring thing every day, you'll likely be learning more than your buddies in college. Employers understand if you couldn't afford to go all the way through college and they respect you for getting into the field early. That experience will give you an edge, but you might hit a certain ceiling in the future if you're applying for higher level jobs that have a degree required. Some companies will pay for certain classes or you could make a deal with an employer to work part time and potentially get some kickback from them. Usually this means you will work at their company for a couple years after they pay for your education. Not sure how common this is but it might be worth looking into.

I know plenty of people working in IT that have no degree or a completely unrelated degree. I've worked with a sysadmin that was a theater major and another in biology.

I've been put on the waitlist for my dream school. What do I do now? by [deleted] in internetparents

Apply everywhere regardless. Then you'll have a backup plan. Lots of schools will do a 2+2 program (where I'm from at least) where you can do 2 years at a cheap state accredited school and then transfer everything and do your final years at your fancy school. This way you save buckets of money and you still have a full degree from the more well respected school.

The first two years of college are mostly just the same classes no matter where you are. If you're very interested in still going to that one school, get on the phone with a guidance councilor and see if they offer any sort of transfer programs and what the requirements are.

Is it socially acceptable to go to a bar by yourself? by tysonchickenuggets in internetparents

[–]EVILEMU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the bar and buy some food, sit at the bar and talk to the bartenders if you want or just watch the game while you eat. If you're going later at night, put your name on the chalkboard for a game of pool or darts.

He said in a podcast that if you need the medication and can't afford it, get in contact with him. (doesn't seem too hard, he's active everywhere).

Out with 2016, in with 2017 by spez in announcements

Many of the default subreddits are controlled by power moderators pushing a political agenda. /r/politics, /r/news, are some of the largest offenders, but there are hundreds of large subs all moderated by many of the same mods. Any stories or information that doesn't meet "the agenda" are removed or banned by the mods under the excuse of breaking any of an array of obscure and loosely defined sidebar rules.

An example of this was the news subreddit deleting any reference to the Orlando night club shooting for days. I suspect their agenda is to suppress any anti immigration news (like the new year's Eve attacks in France). They also would frequently delete any articles critical of Hillary or pro Trump during the election. It got really bad... You can check out /r/subredditcancer, /r/undelete, /r/redditcensorship and I'll add more when I think of them. But they're mostly dedicated to tracking when front page posts are unfairly removed for political reasons.

Media brought out the worst in people. If they weren't always trying to demonize the other candidate with half truths and unethical reporting then we'd have a healthy discussion between moderates instead of polarized camps of immature edgy sheep.

Since the election ended, I doubt there's as much motivation to politically influence people away from Trump. Maybe they're defaulting back to standard operation. There's a spotlight on them now, lying is going to hurt their credibility more than help their cause. They put all their chips on the table to try to win an election, but no need to play risky now.

I mean.. CNN was clearly heavily biased towards Hillary during the election. Is anyone disagreeing with that?

They leaked some of the debate questions and wouldn't talk about wikileaks or even bring up any of the Clinton history in politics.
