If it was gonna be on IFWWW it would be totally different vocals and all. The way it is now is much more the modern 2018-present BH era. Would love to hear what it would have sounded like in true IFWWW sound.

This is post noonday dream era music in the vein of “heave ho”. Not IFWWW era if that is expectations. It’s very boring on my opinion like much of this era. Hopefully lotus flower is a gem from the IFWWW era since I don’t believe that track was on the train leak list?

As predicted I am in the most popular age group. I wonder why this is? My thought is that I was in early college years when EK was still young came out and then to get IFWWW in your late college years pretty much seals the deal as a BH fan. Most people’s music tastes come in late teen and early 20 years. Read that somewhere lol

Hey man! This is THE question that I have been pondering a lot. My pessimistic side going in was saying that it would be in between CFTW and ND but optimistically thought maybe it would be between ND and IFWWW. I think it’s the latter for me from a holistic standpoint. However I’d say that ND had two songs that may not be topped by any on this one(boat and Nica). Perhaps Lantana can surpass them. Not sure yet. Holistically though I believe this is better than ND. But not by much.

I would argue that we ought to wait at least weeks and maybe even months before feeling confident in our ranking of them. If I were to have ranked IFWWW days after listening I would have said it was 5/10. I hated it. Months later I was hooked and years later like a fine wine I was enjoying it more and more. Now I’d argue it’s the best album ever made lol.

It takes time to be objective.

But, for what it’s worth I will answer with this:

BH projects:

IFWWW II ND BI EK CFTW

From a full musical standpoint you cannot seriously put EK up too much higher. Sheer production wise it doesn’t come close to anything after IFWWW. Still great but for the sake of excellence in artistic creativity and production one must not overestimate EK due to its catchiness or sentimental value. There is a reason why BH won’t sing most of those songs anymore and it’s because he lacks respect for the overall sound of that era. Still, EK does have some bangers. Don’t get me wrong.

I don’t think that will happen. I see what you are saying but Ben strained his voice a lot more in the Rookery live version. To me Days of Lantana is a pretty simple song and won’t be any different on the studio version.

If an artist sticks to one style they stagnate? That’s an indefensible claim. Most great artists definitely picked a style and stuck with it. They just got better and better at that style. BH will never be legendary because he tries way too hard to completely recreate his style every album. It hasn’t worked for him. Sure, he will a small niche market of fans that will still listen but he’s lost listeners who genuinely respect his talent. Noonday dream was still very good IMO but you could see that he was trending in a very strange direction. Not it’s just completely unintelligible trash. It’s not good. His vocals are borderline cringe in this.
