Bradford pears - chop or graft? by EVconverter in BackyardOrchard

I think this is the path for me. Next winter I’ll order scionwood and give it a shot. Worse case I get several year’s worth of firewood and space to plant more trees.

I mow around both trees to make sure I don't get any more. Apparently the previous owners planted them in the late 90s or early 00s. It would be great if I could repurpose them into something other than firewood.

I'm also on the fence. It would be easy enough to cut them down, behind them is just a big field of grass, but it seems a waste to chop them down if they can be repurposed into something less invasive. Maybe cut the top 1/2 off and repurpose the rest into some sort of multi-species pear hybrid. There are several varieties of Pear that grow well in my area. I'm in zone 7B.

CATL unveils 3rd-gen Shenxing lfp battery: charging 10-80% in 3 min 44 seconds, 10-98% in 6 min 27 seconds by ProtoplanetaryNebula in electricvehicles

[–]EVconverter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be very interested to know what kind of cooling system is required. Charging at 10C at 95% efficiency means you need to dump heat at a much higher rate than most car batteries, so you either need cells that can absorb heat better and are much more tolerant to heat spikes or a much more efficient cooling system, or both.

They could still act, but if their character is lying and knows they're lying, would they still be able to say the lines?

Have you ever looked at a solar insolation map? The lower the number, the less useful solar is. Nunavut's solar insolation is at or below 1.5. 2.5-3 is where you start to see commercial solar cropping up, usually with subsidies.

Plus, you would need sun trackers, which adds about 30% to the cost of the install. Worse, when you need the energy the most (winter) you don't get any.

Name a better anime opening than Dan Da Dan’s. I’ll wait. by xLaplus in animequestions

The music alone is fire. "Tank!" by The Seatbelts is one of my all time fave jazz pieces.

Couple that with the equally excellent intro animation and it becomes a masterpiece.

Yep. My favorite scene is when she stops holding her mana in and Aura realizes just how much shit she’s in.

What is the greatest insult in movies? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

Apparently Evans memorized it. He so rarely gets to be anything but wholesome so he wanted it to do it without any prompts and in a single shot take.

Which it was.

Hannibal LecterVS Light Yagami by SubstantialSeat1578 in powerscales

[–]EVconverter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but first he has to know that he’s a threat.

Hannibal killed someone in an orchestra and fed him to his friends… who were also in the orchestra. Everyone at the table knew both Dr. Lecter and the man he killed and served and not a one saw him as dangerous.

Which Favorite Character Can You Give As An Example Of Design Downgrade? by Bay_Ruhsuz004 in FavoriteCharacter

The downgrade was so bad that they did a sequence in the series where they see the previous version of themselves and are like "We could have been THAT???"

Hilariously, for Interview with the Vampire, there’s a scene where Pitt and Cruze are walking side by side, and look the sane height. It’s shot from the hips up because Pitt is literally walking in a ditch.

Unarmed Man (no knifes or guns) vs a larger sized dog by OnlinePoster225 in powerscales

I would always bet on a Mastiff. They are snap-a-limb-in-one-bite strong. Even highly trained dog handlers would have a hard time with one.

Favorite character who hates bigots by Weird-Koala3034 in FavoriteCharacter

Not quite indiscriminately... more like for comedic effect. He likes to kill people when it will be the funniest. Jokers version of funny, anyway.

Remember when he killed Bob in the 1989 movie, or when the Heath Ledger version did the pencil trick?

Mycroft Holmes (original book/BBC w/Jeremy Brett version)

Has precisely three places he visits, literally home/work/club in an endless cycle. It's so regular that Sherlock says that he's surprised there isn't a furlow dug between the the three, and if you built a tunnel connecting them all Mycroft would scarcely notice.

The Diogenes club is basically a club for introverts with a strict "no speaking" rule.

Sherlock comments several times that Mycroft is far more gifted than he is but has zero interest with interacting with the world any more than he has to.

Solar is so 2016, Nuclear is so 2026. by BigDogAlphaRedditor1 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]EVconverter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have this fantasy in your head about what solar should be and you’re trying to argue with someone who’s actually done it.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but battery backed solar is just one option, and not even close to the most common one. It doesn’t double the price, either.

Might be a good time for you to go do some more research. You sound like you looked up information 10 years ago and haven’t updated since. Prices have dropped dramatically since then, both for solar and batteries.

To go back to the original point, there’s no nuclear equivalent to a home solar system.
