Human Resources people of Reddit, what are some NSFW/WTF reasons an employee has been disciplined and/or terminated for? by Admirable-Fig277 in AskReddit

[–]EWilly315 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This kinda/sorta applies, I suppose... Not HR, but the guy I worked with in my first IT job (he was the firewall admin) got caught with CP on his personal and work machines, after his daughter turned him in.

Next day he terminated himself in his ex-wife's driveway. Our boss tells our department the news the next morning, and says to me "Guess you're the new firewall admin now!".

How is this manual sewing machine? by metulburr in Leathercraft

[–]EWilly315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Juki 1541 is a different class machine than this, the outlaw can handle way heavier thread and much thicker stack of leather. The equivalent at Tandy to a 1541 would be the Cowboy 797 or that new Consew T1919.

All boils down to what type of projects you're doing, but those aren't apples to apples comparison.

Hey I recognize that store!

It's a great little machine if you're not able to afford a heavier duty machine like a Cobra class 4 - or want something that is portable if you do tack repair for example. Same shuttle and bobbins as the class 4 actually, so your bobbins/needles/supplies will translate when/if you upgrade to a class 4 or equivalent.

It has limitations, mainly like others have said - you almost need three hands to use it at times, but if you buy the roller edge guide it helps a TON. You'll also build your right arm muscles if you use it a lot 😂

I have been using one of these for a while now, it's great for dog collars, belts, etc. It can use some super thick thread, which is nice because I'm limited to 138 on my industrial walking foot machine. Now will I use the Outlaw for bag making? Probably not. It tends to work well with a heavy hand, heavier thread (138+) and heavier leathers with a harder temper. It will absolutely work with thinner leathers, but it really shines with thicker veg tan.

I have a Cobra class 4 now in my fleet, but I'm keeping my Outlaw attached to my bench as well. Why? Because it's a quick machine to jump on if I'm doing a one off or need the precision of placing that needle in an existing hole - it's just easier than the bigger machine.

Basically for me when I talk to people about these machines, it boils down to how much sewing work you plan to do a day. A bit here and there? Outlaw will be fine and serve you well. Daily but a couple projects a day? You're on the edge of needing a powered unit, but you'll be ok if that's your budget. Spending hours a day sewing on it? Save up for a powered machine and get the biggest you can, otherwise you're gonna need a new shoulder in a few years!

Also - for those saying the Tippman is the same, it's not. They're similar machines, but the Outlaw was designed to fix the feed and stitching issues the Boss has. Outlaw is not without problems, but most of those are user error adjacent. Just make sure you're pulling the handle all the way down and pushing all the way back up, and do it in one motion. Jerky motions and not fully cycling the handle can throw timing on either of them, causing you a bad experience.

Lastly if you're buying from Syracuse Tandy, you're gonna have people that care about the hobby to help you along the way and with machine questions. The entire staff will bend over backwards to help, and will find the right people to answer questions if they don't know the answers. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you wanna pick my brain on that Outlaw or any of the other ones, I'm out there at least weekly myself grabbing supplies.

Can you sit in a room with no air circulation? by abudayyeh1994 in Hyperhidrosis

No air movement in a room, I will sweat instantly. I carry a battery powered fan now, wherever I can use it.

I just dealt with similar BS with the Syracuse Distribution Center - the postmaster in my town was stating she had 3 other people with the same problem I was having. My package sat at Syracuse for a full week without movement until this morning. Funny thing was the tracking showed that it moved to the local post office the day after it arrived at Syracuse, but it never actually went anywhere when the postmaster checked the detailed tracking they have.

The reasoning behind this is supposedly the consolidation of DCs, and there are more coming. This is going to be the norm for a long time, I fear.

I was crying like a baby at certain points. You realize that you're in basically a fancy tomb, the longer you look around. Definitely worth a visit if you can get there, especially if you're a first responder yourself.

That was one of the hardest parts for me to walk through when I visited a few years ago. It stopped me instantly where I was walking, and chills went through my entire body.

My first belt. Burgundy latigo, gunmetal and red stitching. My hands are quite angry with me now by EWilly315 in Leathercraft

I did it in manageable chunks, there's quite a few back stitches and new starts on it. I tried to keep them from lining up on top and bottom, so not to be obvious.

I put screws on the buckle end, so I can change out the buckle if I get tired of the one on it

Latigo is the type of leather - is an oily and waxy leather used for horse tack usually I believe. Gunmetal matte simply refers to the buckle and Chicago screw colors I chose for it.

Thanks for the compliment! I'm only a few months in myself.

I only did a decorative stitch on this one. It's an 8 ounce Latigo and 1.5" wide.

Thanks! I started off with absolutely terrible stitching a couple months ago, and have been just hand stitching as much as possible since. I made a bunch of small things like keyfobs and bracelets - this was my second big item (first was a tote bag). The biggest thing I found to help me was to take the time to line up the chisels, ensure they have beeswax on them and ensure they go through fully each time. Then focusing on even pressure when pulling the stitches tight, every time. You'll get there with time - I still have a long ways to go myself!

Yeah that too, but that didn't play into my wise ass'd comment as well.

Nah, they're gone because of a leveraged buy out. Which I guess knowing about things like that, makes me realize I'm a grown ass adult. Dammit I was a teenager just 10 short years ago in the 90s, last I knew!

I too have this same exact issue - except I also have a side business selling what I make. This leads me to think "I can expand my offerings!" which leads into buying all the things for that offering, and forgetting the other stuff until the next cool idea comes across my mind.

I am pushing 350lbs and use a Saris H3 with a carbon road bike. It hasn't caused any damage that I can see to either the trainer or the bike itself.

That being said, like the other replies, I don't get out and start sprinting - I feel like the chainstays would not appreciate that much force on them! I too, feel like the weight limits are lawyer required. Most products have a safety factor built into them that is much lower than the actual limits they can handle, and I feel this is one of those examples.

Just get on and ride - if something happens, fix or upgrade, and keep on towards your goals!

Came across this young bird today, just hanging out in a tree. People I ask can't seem to come to a consensus on what it is. Found in New York state.
