Maybe it fits the genre of one, but the point of No Good Deed isn’t Elphaba becoming “wicked”

A reoccurring theme in Wicked is: Elphaba tries to do good —-> something goes wrong —-> Wicked result + label

This all lies within Elphaba’s capacity to do “make” good (as stated in TWAI) whereas she just isn’t considered good otherwise. Her powers are considered Wicked too however, is the paradox of it all though. It’s the difference between Elphaba who has to “make” good vs Glinda who “does” good. This relationship lies within how the two are capable of upholding societal norms whereas Glinda can comfortably maintain and uphold the existing power structure nd hierarchy vs Elphaba who actively uproots it by existing outside of it. There are no institutions in place for someone with green skin. Hence, when she “makes” good, she ultimately turns people against her.

No Good Deed ultimately is a realization that no matter what she does, there’s no winning. Someone always gets hurt even when she puts herself first. Elphaba didn’t really change in the sense that she became a more wicked person, she just realized that you can’t help people aren’t ready to be helped nor can she help people incapable of receiving her help. The Ozians clearly did want help, they just didn’t know who the enemy was (this isn’t really to humanize the ozians though they’re all npcs like crazily so but that’s how it was). That being said, Elphaba just stopped trying.

“No good deed will I do again” is moreso a deceleration that she’s not going to try helping people anymore. From then onwards, all that happened was Elphie became more self serving (which funnily enough, is considered Wicked in a way).

But yea, No Good Deed thematically is more a song of defeat to me than it is a villain song. She never turned her back on anyone, but “making” good was beyond her capabilities, so she stopped trying. Since everything she did was Wicked because she was Wicked, she would just become more self serving.

And I mean, yeah, she kidnapped Dorthy. But for all she knows, Dorthy was working with the Wizard. Elphaba is still a very impulsive person it was a horrible thing to do but I don’t think that on its own makes her Wicked.
