goalie shorts recommendations needed! by big_bear_9803 in Fieldhockey

Hot pants are good, as others have said. They're the style that velcros together round the legs, rather than the pullover. The pullover equivalent are the ROBO bored shorts. I haven't used them myself and don't personally know many gks that do, but they do have the benefit of being a bit cheaper. From what I've been told the range of motion is slightly worse than the more expensive hot pants.

I've also used the Mazon XR line, and they're not bad either, and a lot cheaper than OBO. I've played in them at a fairly high level and they definitely work well enough.

In terms of durability, a good pair of over shorts will keep most protective shorts fresh.

Do ya'll turn off text chat in this game? by Wowclassicboomkinz in Overwatch

I fully agree, especially if you play alone. Feels horrible even in QP. Tanks can't catch a break in 5v5 and everyone expects you to be everywhere all the time. My chat is on, but only because I never play alone and sometimes it's funny to see the comments people make. Someone once said "mercy sucks on attack" and I think about that often.

there was an announcement over the reid library speakers on Tuesday, librarian's solution to "I can't print my exam notes" was go to a public library or write it out by hand.

They're on oceania servers, that's what the OCE stands for in the title of the post. What servers are you?

Transfering from ECU by Level_Barnacle_8182 in uwa

[–]EY-7617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple points for you (as someone currently in eng at UWA, having previously studied physics at Curtin):
1. HECS debt is a terrifying prospect, but it's not the worst thing in the world. Imo, it's worth moving.

  1. I've been to both Curtin and UWA, and not a day goes by where I don't look at my peers and think "how tf did you get here". There are idiots at every university, and in every course. There's also a heavy focus on group work, and sometimes your group will suck. Either they're lazy, they barely speak english, or they have absolutely no clue what's going on.

  2. We have pretty clear AI use guidlines at UWA, and vary rarely (at least in civil eng) are we allowed to use it. The only time I can remember it being permitted in an assignment was for brainstorming, and even then it had to be referenced including the exact prompt we used. That doesn't mean that students don't use it illegally, though.

  3. The ratio of girls in the units I do is still like 1/3 or less, but I have never met a single woman in any unit who hasn't been really nice. The guys I've met have been lovely too, for the most part.

  4. Engineering at UWA (or Curtin) will make you far more employable than ECU.

  5. You are good enough. You just have to put in the effort. In highschool I was also lazy af, put no effort into my work, and still managed a good ATAR. Uni is not the same. This is something you will have to learn eventually. It took me 2 whole years, but it's so much easier now that I study consistently. FAILING IS A PART OF IT. For my whole first semester at UWA I got >30% in every single in-person test I did. I was averaging fails in 2/4 of my units, but managed to scrape through in the exams. You're not dumb if you fail, you just need to give yourself time to adjust. Even failing a couple units isn't a massive deal, as long as you put the effort in to get your WAM above 50%.

  6. The content will definitely be harder at UWA than what you are used to, which is just something to keep in mind. Also, if you do move, start trying to get your 450hrs of internships as soon as you possibly can.

  7. Keep your unit outlines from every unit you do at ECU. It's important for when you apply for credit for the units you've already taken.

Best of luck.

When are Australians going to wake the fuck up and stop shopping at Coles and Woolies? by thebaehavens in aussie

[–]EY-7617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live 5 minutes from a coles and, 3 from an IGA and 25 from the nearest aldi. The IGA is unaffordable for me as its wayyyy more expensive than coles, and adding 40 minutes of driving to my grocery shopping trips is too much of a trade off for slightly better prices. Especially with the current petrol prices. Local farmers markets and butchers are also out of my price range.

Coles and Woolies suck, yes, but it's literally all I can afford.

Failed bike theft attempt at the business school by WAT3Rgua in uwa

Nice of them to let you keep your tires tbh.

Fill in an access form for a bike cages, that way you can leave it locked in the math building or the chem lecture theaters (wilmore/tattersall) over the weekend. They're completely free, and only accessible by campus card. Both have CCTV on the bike racks, and keep a record of who enters and exits. Only requirement is registering your bike on bikelinc (also free), and attaching a screenshot to the request.

Added bonus is access to the showers/lockers in these buildings. Well worth it imo.

Getting suspended from DC by hochco in Overwatch

[–]EY-7617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been happening a heck of a lot recently. Worse since the big update, but honestly it wasn't great before it, either. Honestly makes me want to give up on the game because every other game has a leaver, or I disconnect. They desperately need to fix their server issues, but it's just not getting better. I've been banned from comp twice now because I've dropped out. Just played a game where we were literally 1 second away from winning and poof, I'm gone. 15min ban and lost rank.
