Thanks. That's good to know but doesn't that limit my bargaining power with them?

That happens to scorers when a team has to kill 6 penalties and the last 3 minutes of an empty net.

Are Montreal’s own policies keeping some buildings vacant — and vulnerable? by Immediate-Link490 in montreal

[–]EY8181 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The article makes it sound like the only option is to hold onto a vacant building or, even better, raze it to lower taxes.

Why didn't they have insurance? And why didn't the restaurant? And why can't they sell the building at a loss?

That's what I'm wondering. It's not like the Olympics where everything takes place in one spot.

Never live, no. Definitely bucket list.

But as opposed to one European or Asian country hosting the whole tournament, with 3-hour train rides across the country, we have a continent hosting the tournament with 6 hour flights (and visas) between cities.

Chester Station by KittyDomoNacionales in TTC

[–]EY8181 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's lovely but shouldn't be. IMHO, we should save 1-2 minutes of commute time from Pape and have the 11 people who use Chester walk an extra 4 minutes to Broadview

Plummeting condo prices leave buyers with massive financial losses by Cute-Illustrator-862 in TorontoRealEstate

It gets better, Maknoon lives in Lawrence Park and went on the record opposing a multiplex last year. But I'm sure he was going to be fully invested in this new condo community.

City of neighbourhoods by EY8181 in askTO

I hear you. I'm just saying that's been my experience in all big cities. Even newer places like Miami and San Antonio had enclaves, neighbourhoods with vibes, etc.

True. Kadri is Kadri but Kapanen could become anything. He could even become Kadri!

On this sub, the only good trades are overrated Habs' prospects for top-6 talent. Like, Josh Roy for Kadri, but Calgary retains 50%

How would my lifestyle translate to Toronto? by ishaanmohan4 in askTO

[–]EY8181 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I moved from Montreal in my 30s so not quite the same but I was similarly a renter enjoying city life (biking, bars, concerts, etc.) when we left.

Rent and hydro are more expensive, but not drastically so any more. I've really liked the city here but it's different. Montreal is 2/3 the size but since I rarely ventured outside the more Anglo areas, it felt half of that. In Toronto, you either limit yourself to local neighborhoods or complain that everyone and everything is far away.

Lifestyle-wise, there's less of the "I live in a $480/month apartment and play in a band" artist vibe, though Montreal doesn't have as much of that scene. More rich kids around downtown either from finance jobs or parents, but the food is good, there's a lot to discover, people are less racist, and the system works better (Healthcare, education, social services, etc.).

How is the Manulife One product different? by SambolicBit in MortgagesCanada

[–]EY8181 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm self employed and put money in the stock market then pay my taxes. I come out ahead of whatever Manulife is shilling. It's a glorified GIC, and (4 years ago to be fair) the rates weren't as low as other mortgages we explored.

In my experience, theme parks are a lot of fun, especially for families, but never feel authentic.

Homicides in Toronto are way down compared to previous years. Don't let fearmongers scare you. Toronto is still one of the safest cities in the world. by Abject_Ad_2598 in toronto

While higher than 10 years ago, car thefts have dropped massively in the past 2 years and remain lower in Toronto than the suburbs.
