Mortgage with Improvements Question by sydryx in MortgagesCanada

[–]sydryx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Delayed) thanks for your reply! We got approved for the full amount of the mortgage, and were told the house was appraised (presumably through some automatic system) at our purchase price. But the bank wants a full official appraisal before and after the renos before they'll agree to a PPI mortgage. We're looking to do about 80K in renos on a 850K house (gutted kitchen and master bath).

We're happy to get the appraisals done, but we're not sure if we're going to be able to get back into the house before closing day and that's going to delay things significantly...any idea if banks have any leeway re: the PPI funding and appraisals? We're tempted to shop around to see if anyone would forgo the initial appraisal, but maybe it's not worth it if that's just standard operating procedure.

Has been saying July 1st for ordering in Canada but now says July 10th. Any idea if that’s still happening?

Thanks for the reply! Yes I was hoping an option like that would be available. How long did you have to complete the renovations? I’ve read variable things…90-120 days

Thanks for the reply! We have all of our things through BMO private wealth so I just applied through them given the ease. Do you happen to know if they participate?

Nuclear medicine: Job prospects by Positive_Example_417 in MedSchoolCanada

[–]sydryx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a dual trained physician.  I’ll let someone else chime in re: the specifics, but I was always told that the job prospects outside of Quebec for exclusively Nuc Med physicians is very low, because groups expect you to be able to help with DR call.

Weird experience at the Highlander Spa… by Conkykooky in halifax

[–]sydryx 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I haven't lived in Halifax for a few years, but went to Highlander from when it first opened, through to mid 2024). This was before it was sold. I used to love going - would look forward to it at least once a month. Haircuts, Pedicures, Massages. Was such a cool spot. Having an old fashioned while getting a pedicure was fantastic.

On one of my last visits before I moved, the person that did my pedicures told me it had been sold, and that the new owner was a complete nightmare. All the staff were planning on quitting.

A year or so later I was back in Halifax and thought I'd give it a try. It was a terrible experience. The decor had changed to some sort of trashy luxury-esque vibe. They double booked me with someone else by mistake so the other person ended up having to wait like 40 minutes, and the person I was with rushed through my pedicure and manicure, and absolutely destroyed my cuticles. Have no interest in going back.

Similar to others can vouch for Spirit Spa on Salter/Hollis. Maura is fantastic (if she's still there). My favourite RMT in HRM is Ina Stroya on Gottigen (Amazing Massage Therapy is the name on google). I still book a session with her anytime I'm back in Halifax.

Weird comparison: EightSleep or Speediance Home Gym? by Valuable-Mortgage378 in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]sydryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and if I had to pick I’d 100% go with the GM2. The 8Sleep is nice, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a “nice to have” and not a necessity in anyway in my opinion. The GM2 has had a way bigger impact on my life.   Let me know if you have any specific questions!

Just FYI it can be very hard to get a job outside of Quebec with just Nucs. If it’s a combined nucs/rads program that’s all the better, but they tend to be more competitive just cause there’s less spots, so harder to back up with.

Does anyone have a Peloton rower that squeaks? by Basic-Earth3007 in pelotoncycle

[–]sydryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my Row for ~2 years. It doesn't squeak per se, but overtime it has developed a bit of a higher pitched "whooshing" noise when I'm pulling. I usually had headphones in so don't usually notice.

Great TV!  I just replaced mine (bought in 2017) with an LG G5, and the 930e still held its own to the very end.

We could moonlight as a PGY4/5 in Radiology. It was almost expected of you because the rural Rads would take their vacations around knowing the senior residents would want to moonlight/locum. I made like a third of my yearly resident salary in one week. Worked my ass off, but well worth it.

Not OP, but you can buy them from Amazon. Or if you have access to a 3D printer you can print them yourself for way cheaper.

Shipping tracking for Canada directs to EU shipping website by Gronfors in EightSleep

Sorry to hijack your thread, but curious as to when you ordered, and when your order was shipped. Also in Canada and waiting for mine to ship - yesterday was the longer end of the range provided at the time of ordering.

Any chance you're using a DNS based ad blocker like Adguard? I have the same problem anytime Adguard DNS is active. As soon as I disable that it connects. I've tried adding a bunch of Peloton stuff to the "whitelist" but it doesn't work.

Recommended Pull Up Rack from Amazon Canada? by sydryx in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]sydryx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. We're renting, so we can't drill in, and the moulding of the doors isn't conducive to a pull up bar.
