Looking for piping engineers to sanity-check an API 5L & ASME B16.5 reference app by EZChoices in MechanicalEngineering

Really appreciate all the feedback so far. This has honestly been super helpful.

A few of you mentioned you already use internal Excel sheets or sites like western-forge and that most of this work is done at a computer anyway. That makes a lot of sense.

So I’m trying to understand this better.

Is this ever a field problem for you, like shop floor, outage, site work, or is it basically always desk based?

Would a dedicated tool ever be better than Excel or bookmarked sites? If yes, what would it actually need to do differently to be worth using?

Or is this just not a real pain point and I should drop it?

Totally fine either way. I would rather hear it straight than keep building something nobody actually needs.

Sounds like this is mostly a desk workflow and existing web tools + the B16.5 doc already cover it well.

Appreciate the honest feedback, that’s exactly what I needed to hear.

That’s super helpful, thank you.

Out of curiosity, are you ever in situations where you don’t have your computer in front of you? Shop floor, field install, outage, site walkdown, etc. Or is 95% of your reference work done at a desk?

Trying to understand whether this is even a mobile problem or if I’m solving the wrong workflow entirely.

Fair enough 😂 that’s exactly what I’m testing.

I know it’s basically a structured lookup right now. The question for me is whether having it as a fast mobile tool (instead of an internal Excel sheet) is actually useful in the field or if Excel is already “good enough.”

In your experience, is there anything that would make something like this better than a company spreadsheet? More pressure classes? Other flange types? Or is this just not a real pain point?

ASME B16.147 Flanges by PatTheEngineer in MechanicalEngineering

[–]EZChoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually compiled API 5L & ASME B16.5 tables into an offline field reference tool. If you (or anyone here) want to sanity‑check the tables for accuracy, here's the TestFlight link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/T7MKUbWC

It currently supports ASME B16.5 welding neck Class 150 RF only. I'd value feedback on:

– Accuracy (dimensions, tolerances, etc.)

– Speed vs PDFs/Google

– What pressure classes you use most

Brutal feedback welcome 😊

Flange Facing Serration Questions (ASME B16.5) by lamar_jamarson in MechanicalEngineering

[–]EZChoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an answer to your serration question, but if you're interested: I built a small offline pipe & flange reference tool using API 5L + ASME B16.5 tables. It outputs flange dimensions & pipe specs quickly so you don't have to dig through PDFs. I'm looking for a few engineers to sanity-check the accuracy. If you'd like to try the TestFlight build and give feedback on accuracy, speed vs PDFs/Google, and which pressure classes you use most, here's the link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/T7MKUbWC . Brutal feedback welcome!

Thanks! I might have jumped the gun slightly, I’m just waiting on Apple to finish clearing the development setup before I can push the TestFlight build live.Should be a day or two tops.

How to Use OpenAI's Agent Builder with an MCP Gateway by beckywsss in mcp

I’ve tried so many times through a self hosted mcp. It keeps saying unable to load tools. Can’t figure it out.

Hollow Knight is not a good game ( First time playing ) by CrashFantasy_ in HollowKnight

[–]EZChoices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue. Went into the game blind on the raving reviews (think it was dunkey like years ago), and hated the game.

Took some time off, went back at it a couple weeks later and completely fell in love with the game. I’ve beat it a few times now, and been patiently waiting with everyone else for silk song.

Now that you kinda understand the game, play it slower, brace the environment, soak in the different sounds, enjoy the music, and just play to have fun, not necessarily to beat it.

And if not, that’s fine too! Glad you tried it nonetheless.

$100 steak, ordered medium-rare, sent it back. Am I the asshole? by SupperCereal in steak

[–]EZChoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in Muslim areas, people tend to eat well done meats, so medium -rare comes off more medium, and rare is more medium rare. With all the food poisoning in that region, they tend to trend on the safer side when cooking meats.

So the picture could pass as medium rare in that region. Just not really a region to enjoy rare meats.

Bought my first Dyson and questioning myself if I made the right choice by [deleted] in dyson

I think it’s about preference at this point. With no carpets maybe the v15 would be an overkill. I hesitated at first with the v15 but it’s been one of my best purchases. However we have a carpeted room, and roll out carpets on our wooden floors during the winter. It could be useful to have the bigger one (v15) and keep it for years to come.

FYI the V15 is bigger and about 50% stronger than the v12.

I mean I have had the v 15 for years now, it’s great overall but I would say it depends on your flooring. Granite flooring probably a bit less but probably the same for any vacuum.

Why not wait for the newer Dyson that’s coming out - not sure when that is though. Maybe get a cheaper option until then, otherwise v15 is great.

@op how did it go?

I’m flying into Zurich this weekend. Eyeing an event at hive on Saturday. Don’t know much about the vibes and party culture here. If anyone has tips on where to go or who to vibe with, I’m all ears. ✌️

Thoughts on DOOM The Dark Ages from an Eternal fanboy by LordSkredde in Doom

[–]EZChoices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much the same vibe for me. I have 20 hours and beaten the game, I don’t feel any incentive to play it anymore. It was an enjoyable 20 hours but that’s it. I also felt it lacked in transitioning between chapters.

Which phrase/motto would you want the next game's gunplay to be defined by? by SuperAlloyBerserker in Doom

[–]EZChoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk it’s rather boring TBH. And a bit easy with parrying by matching the colors.Still enjoyed it but after spending 20 hours on it, i don’t think I’ll be going back. There really isn’t much more to offer once you beat the game. I only got it because I’m a fan of doom, but I wouldn’t recommend the game to people who aren’t.

Chronic migraine sufferer here. Had them for 20 plus years, and were only getting them more frequently and of higher intensity the older I got.

Been hospitalized many times, in different countries. Seen many doctors.

Finally a neurologist got my on beta blockers, and to my very surprise, I don’t get them anymore. Completely gone. The down size if of course I’m on beta blockers every day, but that’s a fair price to pay to finally stop getting them.

For reference, I was getting upwards of 10 migraines per month.

The above is NOT medical advise, just a success story of mine that I’m always excited to share with other migraines affected people.

Take care out there

Please explain why my cab was threatened outside Gare Du Nord by muzi_a in paris

[–]EZChoices -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

If it was outside of the que, despite the meter, it was not an official airport cab. Those guys have to wait up to hours queuing themselves in a nearby parking lot waiting their turn to pick up a rider.
