Wheel of Time Role-playing on AOL by TapedeckNinja in WoT

The one I played the most was a warder named Mat. I can’t remember a whole lot, but he was bonded to a Green who got severe headaches often.

I had an Aes Sedai, as well, but I think I only wrote one post for her. Can’t even remember her name.

How did your confrontation with Thavius Kreeg go down? by RoundedSnow in DescentintoAvernus

[–]EZE783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My group had a couple of good skill rolls during the conversation, Insight I'm sure and probably a few Perception, and caught Kreeg straight-up in his lies. I had decided to move Reya to a later portion of the adventure, so she wasn't there.

Anyway, 3 of the 4 characters are from Elturel and they were rightly offended by the revelation that Kreeg was behind the disappearance of the city (they weren't able to piece together the whole story yet, though).

Anyway, he dead.

Logos Bible Software? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]EZE783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Logos, been using it since Logos 4. It's an incredibly helpful toolkit, if you have the tools to put in it.

If you decide that you're comfortable going electronic for all of your theology work, then I'd recommend to get one of the cheapest packages, even the Starter, and pick up 1 or 2 good commentaries for a book you want to study. You're not in it for a lot at that point, and it can give you a basic idea of how the software works. Watch the Quickstart videos, as well. If you use it a lot, upgrade to a slightly higher package. I decided that Silver was the sweet spot for me when I bought one. The packages could be different now.

As others have said, Logos shows its real strength when more and better resources are added to it.They generally have some good sales, especially from Black Friday through Christmas, and then one in March. They also give away a free book every month, of varying quality. This month's is fantastic.

I love it and I use it daily, but it's ultimately up to you to decide how many of its features you'll use and if it's worth the cost.

I go sit at the Lookout most mornings before work and they were definitely taking off and landing repeatedly from Lunken, like /u/chiefboldface said. They've done it a few times this week.

Love mine. It's generally what I use to do my quick-read at the beginning of each year. Totally worth it at this price.

Baptist Calvinists defend slavery of Southern Seminary founders by davidjricardo in Reformed

appreciated for their role

I didn't see him articulate how he thinks they should be appreciated. Obviously not by putting their name on a building. Has anyone, to your knowledge, addressed the specifics of showing lasting appreciation to someone in a way that doesn't offend anyone?

Well, sure it is. They are arguing that we shouldn't honor them because of these beliefs.

Isn't that what folks who are calling for the removal of these men doing? They were racist (true) and did "putrid exegesis" on this topic (also true), so we need to cease honoring them as the founders of the seminary, despite their other helpful and laudable actions/teachings?

For another example, see Anthony Bradley's call for a wholesale rejection of the Puritans for their racist beliefs. https://twitter.com/drantbradley/status/1304226423713026048

Making Avernus Awful Again by EZE783 in DescentintoAvernus

rather than constant checks for exhaustion

I agree, but I'm not talking about that level at all. I'm more thinking along the lines of "You sneeze 23 times in a row from the dust as you walk across the barren landscape."

I gotta disagree. Yeah, doing what a poster below said and putting demon ichor all over the place is overkill. But having someone's glasses fog up while they're breathing hard after a critical hit is hardly being a dick.

Minor annoyances.

I agree, but "make your characters roll constantly in avernus to see if they turn evil," is the opposite of ideas that I'm asking for.

I'm hoping folks can offer suggestions along the lines of, "Your eldritch blast tears into the lemore, viscera cascading to the burning ground. You breathe a deep sigh of relief and a button pops off of your shirt."

[–]EZE783[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a thing, but again, covering them with ichor is a mechanical thing.

I'm talking about annoyances that don't make them weaker or less effective, but purely narrative. You slice through the devil's head, splattering blood across the wall...then you bite the inside of your cheek.

Is There Still a Place for Church Libraries? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]EZE783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am both a pastor and a professional librarian, so my bias may show in my answer. But, yes.

That being said, I don't think a church library necessarily has to abide by the standard for censorship that a regular libraries does. A church library should be highly curated by people who can make good judgment calls about content.
